Missing Person...

Thursday, August 30, 2012

A wife went to the police station with her next-door neighbor to report that her husband was missing. The policeman asked for a description. She said, "He's 35 years old, 6 foot 4, has dark eyes, dark wavy hair, an athletic build, weighs 185 pounds, is soft-spoken, and is good to the children." The next-door neighbor protested, "Your husband is 5 foot 4, chubby, bald, has a big mouth, and is mean to your children." The wife replied, "Yes, but who wants HIM back?"

A Lesson in English

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Harry is getting along in years and finds that he is unable to perform in bed. He finally goes to his doctor who tries a few things, but nothing seems to work. So the doctor refers him to an American Indian medicine man.

The medicine man says, "I can cure this." That said, he throws a white powder in a flame, and there is a flash with billowing blue smoke.

Then he says, "This is powerful medicine. You can only use it once a year. All you have to do is say '123'"

The guy then asks, "What happens when I want the effect to go away."

The medicine man replies: "All you or your partner has to say is 1234. But be warned - it will not work again for another year."

Harry rushes home, eager to try out his new powers.

That night he is ready to surprise Joyce. He showers, shaves, and puts on his best shaving lotion. He gets into bed, and lying next to her says, "123." It works better than he thought.

Joyce, who had been facing away, turns over and asks, "What did you say 123 for?"

And now you know why you shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition

Late Night Funny

Monday, August 27, 2012

Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to develop into a hurricane in the next few days. Unfortunately, the Republican National Convention starts in Florida on Monday. The National Weather Service says the storm could reach category 5, which is strong enough to move Mitt Romney's part to the other side of his head.

Paul Ryan's Top 10 Falsehoods and Outrages... from Just His First Week on the Campaign Trail

Ryan's early roll-out for campaign 2012 has been quite the disaster.

August 22, 2012

1. Ryan’s position opposing abortion even in cases of rape, and his attempts to define cytoblasts as legal ‘persons’ (which would outlaw all termination of pregnancies and some forms of birth control) came under scrutiny when Republican Todd Akin, running for the Senate in Missouri, provoked a furor. Akin said he opposed abortion even in cases of rape because in ‘legitimate rape’ the woman’s body rejects fertilization. Akin’s insensitivity to a situation that affects a third of a million American women every decade, plus his ignorance of Biology 101, drew widespread condemnation. Mitt Romney put out a statement that both he and Ryan believed abortion was permitted in case of rape. Problem: Ryan has repeatedly opposed that position and appears to agree with Akin more than with his running mate.

2. Ryan keeps attacking Prsident Obama’s stimulus program now. But in 2002 when then President George W. Bush proposed stimulus spending, Ryan supported it. “What we’re trying to accomplish today with the passage of this third stimulus package is to create jobs and help the unemployed,” Ryan told MSNBC in 2002.

3. Even more embarrassing, in 2010, Ryan asked for $20 million in stimulus money from Obama for companies in his district, then repeatedly denied requesting stimulus funds. He finally admitted he had done so, but continues to slam the stimulus program as a failure (even though the economy pulled out of a Depression as a result of it).

4. Ryan slammed President Obama for the closure of an auto plant that closed in late 2008 under George W. Bush. Ryan’s running mate, Mitt Romney, opposed Obama’s actual auto bailout, which was a great success and returned Detroit to profitability.

5. When Ryan was challenged on his lack of foreign policy credentials, he replied that he had ‘voted to send men to war.’ That is, he is boasting that his support of the illegal and disastrous Bush invasion and occupation of Iraq qualifies him to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. The Iraq War left over 4,000 US service personnel dead, over 30,000 seriously wounded, and likely hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead; failed to uncover any weapons of mass destruction, contributed to the US debt, and led to the takeover of Iraq by Shiite elements close to Iran, who are now helping Iran get around US sanctions. Does Ryan really want to run on that record of foreign policy ‘success’?

6. Paul Ryan charges that Barack Obama has ‘stolen’ $700 billion from medicare for his Obamacare. In fact, these expense reductions do not cut Medicare benefits, and, moreover, Romney and Ryan supported these reductions! The difference is that they would give the savings to the affluent, whereas Obama uses them to cover the presently uninsured.

7. Ryan, seeking the youth vote, was foolish enough to list “Rage against the Machine” as one of his favorite bands. Band leader Tom Morello lambasted him, saying Ryan is the embodiment of the machine against which they are raging. Face it, Ryan, you are stuck with Megadeath and Ted Nugent.

8. It became clear that under Ryan’s tax plan, Gov. Mitt Romney would pay less than 1% in annual federal taxes, highlighting Romney’s already low rate compared to ordinary Americans (slightly lower than Ryan’s own!) and putting the spotlight back where Ryan’s appointment was supposed to misdirect it.

9. It turns out Ryan and his wife own shares in oil and gas companies that indirectly benefit from tax breaks for Big Oil that he wants to keep in the federal budget.

10. Ryan continues to push his longstanding plans for a steal-from-the-elderly-and-give-to-the-ric
h medicare plan, which President Obama warned would cost ordinary recipients over $6000 a year extra. Politifact checked and rated Obama’s charge as correct, though they noted that the figures referred to CBO analyses of Ryan’s last plan, not his ‘new’ one, which hasn’t been subjected to similar analysis. Ryan certainly recently put forward a plan that would cost ordinary people that much extra.

Since it is clear from the first sentence that this is a political blog, it is easy for someone who doesn't want to read about politics to move on and ignore it.

As for presenting both sides, how about debating here in the comments instead? I think we can be civilized about it.

Yes, those that disagree can take their BULLY tactics, head over to their own page and post their dismay ON THEIR OWN BLOG. No one is dragging you over to this blog to participate.

The fact that a number of you have decided that it serves some healthy interest to attempt BULLY another sparkperson into submission is further proof that your priorities are skewed. This is how you promote HEALTH?.......seeking out someone else's PERSONAL BLOG en mass to BULLY, criticize and sensor a post that is not agreeable with your agenda?

That is about as unhealthy as it gets. I suggest that you direct your energies toward more appropriate activities.

Spark Teams and Spark Personal Blogs are for those that want to discuss subjects other than fitness and nutrition. For those that aren't looking for versatility "JUST DON'T READ THEM!"

For those that want "Fair and balanced" you should write your own blog to counter.

Sunshine, you write many interesting blogs covering a variety of subjects some of which I find very enlightening. Keep up the good work.

I agree and I am glad you are so well versed and can express it. However, are you trying to help your Democratic party with volunteering like I did. I wanted to make sure the homeless people in my community were registered to vote. I met with an Obama campaign person. She evidently didn't agree. I didn't hear anymore about it until she wanted me to host a fund raising event in my neighborhood. My hood, hasn't the money to donate, they all do have the ability to vote if registered and probably who had the kindness to seek them out and registered them would win their vote. Especially, when in Florida we had two in our backyard who we fed. In case some do not know, FL can be quite chilly in January down in the 50's. No, you don't die from it but it isn't comfy either. The thought of the homeless now in the rain of Isaac is disturbing to me. This republican held state, the poor have been disenfranchised on the backs of the wealthy who come to get out of the snow and play golf or boat Your article was on track but there is so much as dem voters we can do for the party other than rhetoric. I also agree that if the talent shows can go by way of computer and telephone voting......can't we just get down to the person and his/her record and do away with party. There is so much bad in the worst of us, and so much good in the best of us, it doesn't behoove any of us to go around talking about the rest of us. emoticon Have a sparkling day!

The thing about one's blog is that one shares what is personal and important to oneself. Nobody is forced to visit or read another person's blog, and they don't get to choose what the other person gets to talk about. They can make those choices in their own blog! Should we not agree with THEIR blog subjects? We do not have to visit or read their blog! Yay! Personal freedom! What a concept!

    Nice summary.
The way we elect people - and the trend to negative advertising - is keeping the really qualified people away. Who would want to go through (or put their families through) these outrageous attacks? And isn't it making the population jaded? If all you "hear" are "bad things" about people running for office, don't you think they are all unqualified or feel less inclined to bother to vote "for the lesser evil"?
I propose (especially in light of the Citizens United BUYING OF AN ELECTION) that we abolish all political parties and have everyone run on their own credentials and plans for the country. Then we vote for the best person, and everyone elected works for the GOOD of the country instead of against "the other team." We DO have what it takes to accomplish major amazing things in this country - we just don't have a system to make that happen.

Under Paul Ryan and the GOP's efforts to push "personhood amendments," miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy would be criminalized and women will die because people will be afraid to treat a woman with a positive pregnancy test who is hemorrhaging. It is already happening - Florida documented more deaths from ectopic pregnancies in one year than had occurred nationally in the statistics of the previous year available.

Thanks for sharing your blog.
