The harmful environmental effects of oil on fish

Friday, January 03, 2014

Students at school were asked to write about the harmful environmental effects of oil on fish. One 11-year old wrote, "When my mom opened a tin of sardines last night it was full of oil and all the sardines were dead."

I really wouldn't worry about the olive oil they use in fish oil cans, what I would be worried about is the effects of that Tsunami, or radiation thing in 2011 in japan. the doctorstv.com for 1-3-2014 has listed all the fish affected by it. Can you image if the ocean were ruined with no fish, what would the world eat? We need to stop radiation plants, and stop cutting down trees in South America that is what is changing the weather patterns. sorry all this bad news, bum out you jokes here on this page,. reality is a bitter pill to swallow. eva

Another gem from Caroly Hax's column

Thursday, January 02, 2014

On resisting a parent's pressure, on principle, to attend a family vacation:

My 94-year-old father badgered me to go on a cruise with him. I hate cruises, and had many work obligations that week. The idea of being cooped up with my very dependent father for a week really really didn't appeal to me.

But my best friend told me I had to do it, so I did. Once I accepted that the cruise was not for me, but for him, I actually enjoyed our time together. I even used some of it to get him to tell me his life story so I could take notes against the day I might have to write his obituary; it turned out there were many things I didn't know about him.

Two days after we returned to port, quite out of the blue, my father suffered an aneurysm and died. I have never regretted that trip for an instant, and I can't thank my friend enough for urging me to take it.

What a powerful story here! It is truly a lesson for us. . .

Too, if there are individuals in your life you want to thank, individuals who made a difference in your life--- thank them before it is too late.

I had a beloved aunt who was ever so kind and generous with me all during my childhood. I put my heartfelt gratitude in a letter for her shortly before her death. Her daughter, my cousin, said that my letter meant "the world" to her.

Thank you, and my sympathy to you.

Out of th mouth of Babes!

Wednesday, January 01, 2014

Little Emily was complaining to her mother that her stomach hurt. Her mother replied, “That’s because it's empty. Maybe you should try putting something in it." The next day, the pastor was over at Emily's family's house for lunch. He mentioned having his head hurt, to which Emily immediately replied, "That's because it's empty. Maybe you should try putting something in it."

Robertson...

Wednesday, January 01, 2014

Freedom of speech has ONLY to do with government action, not with media coverage. Everyone is free to be an a***e and the government won't interfere. But common human decency should govern what a person says in public, and Robertson is not displaying common human decency! Nuff said...

I am all for common human decency! My parents taught decency and their lives were examples of decency-----
Ever notice, however, that there are MANY TV personalities without decency?! I have noticed, just in changing channels, there are "entertainers" of both sexes with evil mouths.
Sadly, they have audiences who thrive on vile stuff...they enjoy profanity and obscenities ---- Bill Maher, Howard Stern, Kathy Griffin and many others excel in vulgarity. There is so much of the nasty stuff that the shock has long worn off. Art Linkletter, God rest his kind soul, said he was most disappointed in television "vulgarity"---
Networks never had to bleep Mr. Linkletter's words. He was class!

How I wish decency could be restored in entertainment!

Yes. I was surprised to read about Melissa Harris Perry's segment regarding the Romney family. I completely agree that that discussion was inappropriate. it isn't about right or left, conservative or liberal, it's about common human decency and kindness. One would think we could all agree in at least that aspect of life.

he is not the only one who is an idiot....... what about making fun of a black adopted child in the Romney family...... where is the OUTRAGE there from the left, can't have it both ways.

My brother and his cohorts defended this fellow's "right" to free speech. I wonder if he is still their hero now that the information about his views on marriage have come to light. (He said men should marry their women while they are young teenagers so that they can train them to be proper wives.) Sounds too much like Warren Jeffs to me.
