I hope you'll feel better soon. Adding broccoli to a soup is a great idea. What is the name of the soup? Do you know how many Points are for the whole can? How many servings per can?? How many grams of sodium it has for the whole can (or per serving)? Thank you in advance. Mimi Report Inappropriate Comment |

MY BROTHER CAME YESTERDAY HE IS 54 YEARS OLD. HIS DOCTOR TOLD HIM HE WAS A CANADATE FOR A LUNG TRANSPLANT ONLY 20% OF HIS LUNGS ARE WORKING HE HAS DESTROYED THEM SMOKING AND HAS GAINED WEIGHT IN HIS STOMACH THAT IS CUTTING HIS AIR OFF EVEN MORE HE WEIGHTS 260 LBS. WE HAVE LOST BOTH OF OUR PARENTS WITH CANCER OF THE LUNGS AT 45 AND 46 YEARS OLD FROM SMOKING . MY BROTHER WAS ONLY 16 WHEN THEY DIED. DH AND I FINISHED RAISING HIM . LOST ANOTHER BROTHER LAST YEAR WITH CANCER FROM DRINKING AND SMOKING AT 64 AND THE OTHER BROTHER HAD TO HAVE TRIPLE BYPASS ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF SMOKING HE DID QUIT BUT IS ABOUT 50 LBS OR MORE OVERWEIGHT . SO POOR CHOICES HAS DESTROYED MY FAMILY ALL AT A YOUNG AGE. I DON'T WANT DIE YOUNG THATS THE REASON I WORK ON MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES I LOVE LIFE AND DON'T WANT LOOK BACK AND SAY IF I HAD TAKEN BETTER CARE OF MYSELF I MIGHT NOT BE IN A WHEELCHAIR OR HAD A STROKE FROM HEALTH ISSUES CAUSED FROM BEING OVERWEIGHT OR A HEART ATTACK . I CHOSE TO TAKE CONTROL OF MY HEALTH AND LIFE TO LIVE AS LONG AND AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE. IF I COULD I WOULD DO IT FOR MY BROTHERS BUT WE ARE EACH ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR OURSELFS. I HAVE TRIED TO TALK TO HIM BUT HE JUST SAYS I KNOW I MIGHT TRY ! FRIENDS IF YOU ARE HERE ON THIS SITE YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AND HEALTH AND WE CAN DO IT. CHRIS HAS FURNISHED THE TOOLS BUT HE CAN'T DO IT FOR US ! LORD HELP US TO MAKE WISE CHOICES !

It is so difficult watching those we love make poor choices. Your brother and you are in my prayers.

You are so right!! I too, have lost a brother and sister.......it really hurts! I have one other brother, who has HIV, and has had it for 20 years so you know he won't live too many more years. I also have a sister.....sorta. She is my adoptive Dad's daughter from his first marriage, but she has pulled back from the family. I really miss her even though we only had minimal contact. My Mom and Dad are still alive, thank you God, and my Mom is very healthy. My dad smoked for over 50 years, but quit after AAA surgery. After watching my nieces and nephews deal with losing their parents, I have decided I'm going to live to be 100. I realize God may have a different plan and His of course supersedes mine. Lol. But, I'm gonna do all I can to have a healthy rest-of-my-life. Hang in there! God will get us both through all the storms, big and small! Report Inappropriate Comment |

**SIGH** It's so frustrating to see CLEARLY the writing on the wall yet not be able to sway someone we love to get healthier lifestyle habits. But, you're doing what you can by taking care of yourself and you've spoken with your brother (and obviously he's seen the results of poor choices many times over in your own family already). Unfortunately, he's just not ready yet. I know that helpless feeling of watching it . . . it's like watching a train wreck in slow motion. But again, you've done what you can. Setting a good example, talking with your brother about it. If the prospect of a lung transplant doesn't move him, I just can't even imagine what will. God bless and hang in there taking care of yourself! Report Inappropriate Comment |
