I Deserve A Treat Because I'm Earning It! Part II

6/6/10 Oh my, I forgot to talk about the treat part!

When I get back to 155#(my low in 2009) I will treat myself to a salon haircut in downtown St Paul, MN. I only have 0.6 lb to get to that one! Whoops!, I gotta make that appointment, that was 1.4 lb ago!

When I get to 150#, a manicure at a local salon.

When I get to 145#, a pedicure at a local salon, my first ever, I think!

When I get to 140#, a Bottle of champagne to share with my friends!

Lower than that? New clothing for my slim bod!

I Deserve A Treat Because I'm Earning It!

Thursday, June 03, 2010

When I started this weight loss journey in February of 2009, my goal was to go from 187 pounds to a fitter and healthier weight of 125 pounds. Because I'm a lifelong asthmatic, depressive, 70 years old, and you name it, I was told I couldn't/shouldn't do it.

To quote an old poem I memorised many years ago,

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But she with a chuckle replied,
That maybe it couldn't, but she would be one,
who wouldn't say so till she'd tried!
So she buckled right in, with a trace of a grin on her face,
if she worried-she hid it!
She started to sing as she tackled the thing........
That couldn't be done
aaaannnnnnnnndddd SHE'S DOING IT!"

No, I'm not there yet! Last year I was eating better and less and piling up fitness points! I joined Curves, walked up a storm and began to loose weight. Slowly and steadily, but not perfectly. The progress continued to 30 pounds and to November. There I stalled and the struggle seemed almost overwhelming. Because I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD and live in Minnesota, my will to continue was being sapped.

I had to drop back and regroup. Then I decided instead of giving up I would take a hiatus and try to maintain the weight already lost ( or at least most of it). The lowest weight I had hit was 155 pounds and I reached spring at around 160(+/- 2#) depending on when I got weighed.

I've been slowly ramping back up as the days get longer again and joined a gym ( in addition to Curves) for more fitness options. My weight is back to 156.2 and I'm sure it will continue downward. I've even joined the C25K team and am now repeating week three. I'm geeking up,I got an iPod, a Nike+ system and some reflective armbands so that I can 'wog' during the cooler night time summer hours(the backup to that is the air conditioned gym)!

Will I get to 125 lbs or be happy at 130 or 135? I don't know, but I'll know when I get there!

(This was composed as an entry in Spark's "I Deserve a Treat Because..." contest. Because it is also a declaration of intent I decidedto post it so that my Spark 'peeps' will hold me to it!)

Still a work in progress.................

You're doing great Sunny. Your pictures are awesome! You made a comment on one of my Statuses a few days ago, and asked how I was eating. Up until a few days ago, pretty well. The last few days - lots of sweets. But the feeling tired started before that. I'm going for a checkup, and maybe someone can tell me something. When I try to push my exercise my fibromyalgia symptoms flare up, and they haven't bothered me in a long time. I'll see. But thanks so much for your caring concern. Best to you! Carol

Sunny, you are so inspiring to me. I wish we lived in the same town and could walk together.
Keep on keeping on.
I love the way you have overcome each obstacle that is thrown in front of you. I can see/hear such a difference in your voice. This winter was much kinder to you because of that I think.
Mine was better too.
Thanks for being my friend...
You are the sunshine that lights our team here.

I Really Need A Round Tuit!

Tuesday, June 01, 2010

I still haven't gotten my lawnmower out OR running! Hence the 'round tuit'! Yesterday, tho, I got the trash and recycling to the curb, cleaned the litter boxes, and I finally cleaned the 'fridge' top to bottom. I also worked out in my garden and finally filled and covered my new "Earthbox", intended for the tomatoes.

Please pardon the locations of my kittie pictures. This adding photos to a blog is a first for me!

I finally got my Nike+ to work and sent my original Nike sensor back. The receiver kept saying it couldn't find the sensor. emoticon

Love your cats, My Ed is a giant orange tabby, he was named Ed cause we were going to call him Ember cause he has red eyes and Dusty cause when we got him he was a dusty gray which turned orange after we got him cleaned up. Then my son figured we'd just use the first initials of his names and Ed it is, or Eddy, or Edweirdo, or Edster either way he comes running when he hears the can opener opening the dog food....he gets first bite of the dog food, and Dave really doesn't mind much. Our pets are sure great companions and love to cuddle. Keep on moving you are doing emoticon emoticon

Precious pictures! It sounds to me that you accomplished quite a bit the last day or two.

I need a round tuit also, Sunny. Someone at Curves was talking about wooden nickles this morning. But it's the round one I need. Some days I'm like Irene and have so little energy. Don't know what that is all about.

There is Still a Full Moon Tonight, Part 2

Last night, I went for my day 3 of week 3 of C25K. It was not pretty. It was still above 70*F and the humidity was over 70%. Due to chronic asthma, I have a bit more trouble breathing when the humidity is that high! I persisted, but with more walking and slower jogging; when I reached the lake where there was a breeze, I rested and started all over! It didn't get any better, I was just cooler with the breeze...............

The lake front was beautiful with a full moon low in the sky and shining across the water. There were enormous clouds of bugs around the lights. I wasn't sure of the identity of the bugs until I got back near my home. There were NONE of those bugs around those lights. So, my guess is that the bugs along the lake were a big hatch of Mayflies! The fish like them very much. White Bear Lake is an excellent lake for fishing for walleye, pike, bass and smaller pan fish. I often read about swarms of these flies where the Interstate crosses the Mississippi. They are many inches deep on the roadway, making the road very dangerous due to the "bug slick"! They often need a snowplow to keep the road safe for motorists. NOW THAT IS A LOT OF BUGS, no joke.

I will repeat week 3 again, the humidity should be much lower on Monday, I hear.

Have a safe and Greene Memorial day weekend!

I bet the moon was beautiful - and I know what you mean about the high humidity. I don't have asthma, but I certainly can feel the difference in breathing when the humidity is up. As for the bugs... oh, no, I think I will pass! :-D

The coldfront finally came through and the humidity AND temperature are down! I will go out and enjoy my walk tonight for sure!

I don't do mornings, I like to start slow; feed kitties, have a healthy breakfast, get dressed and take brief walk to get the paper...............

Great job burning those calories! It is hard to run when it is humid out. No harm in repeating a week. It would be great to be running around the lake with those distractions - I need distractions when I run otherwise I get bored and think about just walking.

A VERY Public Confession

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Sunday, on my way home trom dd's house, I stopped at the grocery store to get the Sunday Paper and... I picked up some small lite ice cream cups(OK for me, Max cal is 150 and no fat; a planned treat.) Since the lite ones were not on sale for $1 ea., I got the ones that were on sale. Here is Broken Rule #1 - did not read the nutrition label! I don't eat white bread very much, but love French bread. Got 1, a tiny 6 oz French bread kinda limits the damage. I love real butter on crusty bread but settled for a whipped 50%butter/50% healthy fat spread.

On Monday, we broke a 150 year heat record and topped out at 97*F.

Yesterday I mentioned on my status that I was going to Curves and Gold's. When I realized it was only 10 min to the start, I grabbed some healthy crackers and a veggie dip and ran to turn on the TV.

Mistake #2 - I did not portion out the servings and leave the rest in the kitchen! During the show we were having a heat breaking thunderstorm and I kept snacking thru that 2 hour show and the Finale of Parenthood.... After the storm had passed I went out into lite sprinkles to take my walk. Total for day 8132 steps.

At bed time I took my ice cream treat into bed to enjoy with a book to wind down. Also finished another bottle of water. Then I noticed the nut label on the ice Cream cup! 300 calories for the 6 oz cup and t.fat of 15g(Sat fat = 11g) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Today I sat down to Total up yesterday's damages:

Nutrition Facts for Logged Meals
Where your calories came from:

SODIUM 4187 mg
Potassium 2115 mg

I hate it when that happens. I think I get my worst shocks when I go out to eat and then come home and look up the calorie information on a restaurant's website. Even really "healthy" meals can be 700 calories or more. Lesson learned.

I'm amazed at the heat you have already had there. Very unusual as you stated in your blog.

"OUCH" isn't that just the pits when you add it all up? Deep down we get the gut feeling that something is outta control today, and then you did the smartest thing you could, by logging it all. We sometiems have to face the music and when I do it just confirms I am sabatoging my own eating.
I too, ate out of a container with a few mulitgrain chips, to Empty the bag of the pieces and had 5 Multgrain Crackers, serving size is 4, so why I took 5?????????????

Tomorrow is a new day and Curves is still there LOL
