Quietly changing course

Thursday, October 25, 2012

I've been doing a lot of thinking (and thankfully, less binge eating) in the past 2 weeks.

Thankfully, I can start running after getting some chiropractic care for my knee/leg with the IT issues. I'll be glad when I can run regularly as that has helped me lose/maintain weight in the past. (I'm exercising regularly on the elliptical and doing some strength training, however I like the intensity of running and enjoy being outside.)

Anyway, have a great day every one! Hope the weather is as nice where you are as it is here in northern Virginia.

The weather here in Western North Carolina is great right now. Beautiful fall weather, not too cold, not too hot. Nights are a little chilly. but it's October. There's a cold front coming through this weekend tho so it will be fire building time. Hope you enjoy the runs you will have. Keep up the good work.

Assignment: 10 years later

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

I've seen this mentioned a couple of times on SparkPeople and I'm visualizing myself in 10 years as a slender, active, less-food-obsessed person, having mastered better cooking skills and still experimenting with the latest new trendy foods (like kale currently is), while maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. I will be active, going hiking, traveling, enjoying my hobbies (the arts and others), perhaps being a role model to others.

Sheesh, I like that person already!

How do you see yourself in 10 years?

I like the active hiking part! I will be 71 in ten years and want to be doing all those things.

I'm worth it

Saturday, October 13, 2012

I have to say that despite my attention to staying binge-free, I still struggle. I appreciate the help of my Spark friends and hope that soon (today) that I'll begin a long streak of binge-free days.

I'm worth the effort and attention it takes to eat healthfully and mindfully along with the activity to keep my body healthy and happy.

What have you found that helps you stay binge-free on a daily basis?

Eek I've been behind with keeping up on blogs, but I really hope that you've been doing well with your binge-free streak! I know you can do it!

Struggle is definitely part of it...someone once told me to think about how long you've had a certain habit (like bingeing for years) in order to help give some perspective when you get impatient or disappointed about how long it's taking to change.

Small steps... I try to take one day at a time. Hopefully over time the percent of binge-free days keeps getting larger. Eventually we'll make it!

Good for you! I try to be careful about what foods I let into the house. Also, I am reading Shrink Yourself which is about emotional eating and it has been helpful in identifying irrational thoughts that lead to my over eating. Finally, I have worked so hard to get to this weight that I don't want to go back, so I concentrate on that as well as the many health benefits I have found at this weight.

Happy to start running again

Saturday, October 06, 2012

I started running about 6 years ago (great post-breakup therapy, LOL!) but stopped in the spring because of some painful IT band issues (it hurts most in the knee). I went to the orthopedic doctor this week and will be starting chiropractic care to get that IT band stretched out.

So, I went out today for the first run in a long time (I have been exercising in other ways) and it was GREAT!

One impetus for the excitement was volunteering at the packet pickup for a local half-marathon today. I love the positive energy at running events and experienced by the simple act of running.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to picking out a half-marathon or two next year and very excited to get back into my running duds.

What physical activities do you enjoy? Have you tried any new activities?

Lots of runners here. Glad to hear you're able to get back to it. ITB issues can be tricky.

Awesome that you are able to start running again - as you may know, I love running too! Glad you enjoyed and were inspired by volunteering for a local race. It's great way to still feel connected to the running community, especially if you are injured. Best wishes for your training!

A hamburger kind of day

Friday, October 05, 2012

Normally when I eat out I am tempted to add to the pleasure(?) by continuing to eat less than healthfully throughout the day. Today, however, I entered my food choices into SparkPeople and am counting the calories, then I'll cut back by supplementing with necessary vegetables and lowfat protein when I'm hungry later. I call that progress (not perfection, LOL!).

What healthy changes have you made to your daily intake?

Have a great weekend!
