Sweet Reflections

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Sweet Remembrances of a Lifetime,
tied up with flowers & a string.

I will miss you in every moment,
but I see you in each new spring.

Sunny
4/21/09

I woke up the other morning thinking about my Mother. She loved spring so much and loved working out in her gardens. I was feeling a little sentimental so I wrote this short poem during my walk down memory lane. Isn't it wonderful that no matter what we loose in life, our memories are ours forever.

Enjoy the Day!

Sunny

That is so true. Thank you. I lost my darling mother in 2004 and she's with me in the garden, when I'm cooking, with Rosie her beloved dog she left behind - whenever something new or nice happens. She will never be gone while memories live on in the people who knew and loved her.

    Sunny,
That was truly something I needed to hear. It's getting close to the anniversary date I lost my husband May 5th (2005) so he's been on my mind a lot lately.....
You are right they never leave our memories.
Hugs, Alice

Arbor Day

Friday, April 24, 2009

Today is Arbor Day. Please visit The Arbor Foundation Website as it is a great place to get trees that do well in your specific area. Here is a little more history about Arbor Day.

The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902), a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career, Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.

Trees are the earth's endless
effort to speak to the
listening heaven.
~Rabindranath Tagore, Fireflies, 1928

The best time to plant a
tree was 20 years ago.
The next best time is now.
~Chinese Proverb

I enjoy Arbor Day. We have so many trees and they always send more when we send money. I have given them away to everyone I know. Thanks for reminding me how important they are.

Happy Earth Day

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I am starting a new tradition this year. Every year on Earth Day, I will plant a new tree. This year, I will be planting a new Dogwood Tree in the front yard and if the Weeping Willows are in at the Nursery, I will pick up two of them to go down by the pond.

I love planting trees and watching them grow. Some take a while but they still make some progress each year.

What are your plans for Earth Day today? Enjoy the day and do something beautiful for Mother Earth.

Hugs, Sunny

I think it's great you can plant trees, Sunny! Unfortunately since we live in a condo, I can't plant trees. I didn't do too much today. I'll do more in my samll garden later this week, when it's supposed to warm up.

Happy Earth Day right back at you, Sunny and to everyone else.
I'm going to see if the ground is dry enough to get some work done out there,
also I'm going to pick some more asparagus. Yum.

April Showers...

Sunday, April 19, 2009

April Showers Bring May Flowers. We ought to have lots of flowers come May as we have had more than 4 inches of rain the past 3 weeks. I do not know about most of you but I do so much better when the Sun is shining. I suffer from Season Affective Disorder and am so ready for some Sunshine and warmer days. I have been so excited that at least, calendar wise, Spring is here but I am thinking that someone really ought to tell Mr. Weather Man.
He doesn't seem to know.

I am ready to get my Sunflowers planted. A field of Sunflowers in the middle of July just gives me so much joy. I will keep busy and keep planning my gardens with hope that someday soon, I will be out there playing in the dirt.

Take care and have a very Sunny Day.

Sunny

I understand -- damp dark weather gets me down too. But look up, the sun will be shining soon. I love the calendar. I planted some sunflowers around one of Jim's birdhouses. Hope they make it. This way the birds can "pick up dinner" on their way home (ha ha). Hope you have a great week.

I'm with you there, Sunny! It's raining again today here, but at least it's in the 60s! I have some daffodils and that's about it for flowers at the moment. Sunflowers are so beautiful! They remind me of you.

Good News for Our Soldier Boy

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Joshua received a call yesterday from The Non Commissioned Officer in Charge of his new assignment with the news that Joshua will be leaving mid week to go to NCO Leadership Training and will be gone about 2-3 weeks. He was so excited when he got the call that he can't remember where he is going. I will keep you posted.

It will soon be 5 years that Joshua told us he was going into the Army. At the time, I was so upset - could not figure out why he had enlisted during War Time & no amount of explanation from him about how he wanted to serve his country helped. I, finally, after a few sleepless nights, let go and placed him in God's hands. I know now that God has a plan for Josh and that His plan is better than any I could make for him

God Bless you Joshua and know that I will be praying for you as you continue on your journey. I hope you never have a moment where you think I am not proud of the man you have become. You made this decision to serve and you are Shining Brightly.
