Oh I love to SPIN!

Just a quick note on how much I love Spin Class. It's a killer workout, you burn a ton of calories, you sweat like a pig, what more could one ask for. If you have a chance to get into a class or 2, do it! I highly recommend it.
I feel like a whole new me! I'm making good eating choices and I'm being as active as I can. I'm determined to get back into the 160s by the 10th. Just 2 lbs away. I can do it!

Chi on the treadmill, not in the gym

The guilt of not being able to run lately has been eating away at me so I decided to go to the gym and get some time in on the treadmill . Now, I don't have a regular membership. I purchased some group class vouchers a while back and I know that I'm not supposed to use them outside of group classes but I wanted to see if they'd cut me a break. The lady at the front desk said no at first but I said, "I just want to go for a run..blah blah blah" and she VERY reluctantly agreed to let me in.

The gym in our small city is quite large considering our population. There are probably 20-30 treadmills and umpteen ellipticals and bikes and how many people do you think were in the gym last night...maybe 6 o 7 plus me. I wasn't going to be tying up any critical equipment from the VIP members. I don't know why she had to give me so much attitude.

Anyway, I found that using the ChiRunning technique, treadmill running was much easier. I was able to run comfortably, at 90 bpm at 6.8-7.5 speeds. I ran for 60 mins and went almost 11km. My mind was ready for another 45mins to an hour but my chaffed inner thighs said, NO! I don't know if it was the shorts of my underwear but my thighs were getting quite irritated so I decided not to push any more. Needless to say I was just a bit frustrated. To make matters worse, I found that I had a huge blister on one of my toes and a bruised toenail on another. What's up with the toe injuries! haha. SO I'm taking a day off of spin to let my toes Breath.

To end my gym experience, as I was leaving, the lady at the front desk looked up with her fake smile and as soon as she saw it was me she looked down and lost the smile. I very politely and appreciatively said "Thanks again for letting me in" to which she replied without eye contact, "yeah bye". Wow! How's that for customer service. I know she didn't HAVE to let me in but if she felt so strongly about it she could have just said no and refused me entry. She didn't need to be such a bitch!

Anyway, today it's snowing AGAIN so I won't be getting out for a run, AGAIN. I have decided that I want to get a little pair of running socks and maybe a pair of those spandex shorts to wear under my regular running shorts. I really don't want any blisters or chaffing during the 21km. It's gonna suck if i happens.

    I don't mind running in a little bit of cold but I don't have good winter running gear so it gets to me. The worst part is just the freezing wind. It's always windy in my city because we are in the prairies and I live in a suburb so we aren't protected by trees or big buildings. Excuses, eh!?

    I've been running outside in the cold and honestly it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. To be honest, I think I like running in the cold better than running in the humid Toronto summers.

Good sense of accomplishment today

Today I feel like I got a lot done. I vacuumed all 3 stories, cleaned all the hardwood, resealed the granite in the kitchen, cleaned all of the kids toys up, organized the basement, did the laundry, took trystan to Tae Kwan Do, cleaned the kitchen thoroughly, cleaned all of the windows and cleaned my bathroom. I'm sure I did other stuff but have forgotten. I love when my house is clean and organized.

So yeah, today was Trystan's first day in Tae Kwan Do and he did great. He was following the teachers really well and he wasn't shy at all. He jumped right in with the other kids and played well. I was impressed. It was pretty funny because he was actually good at doing the pushups and the jumping jacks because I taught how to do them. He learned them from me when I was doing Insanity. I also taught him how to do the front kick and the horse stance and the punch sequences before the class so he was prepared. We will enroll him for the rest of the semester which is until June and then the next phase will begin in September. I hope he gets into it because it will teach him confidence and teach him how to protect himself in school. He's a pretty calm boy and I can see bigger kids picking on him. A father NEVER wants his kids to be picked on in school.

It is still snowing outside and the conditions just aren't working in my favour for training. I'm thinking of just going to the gym for a run on the treadmill. This is frustrating. to continue my productive day.

Day 15 - Chest and Back and Abs

Eventhough today is actually supposed to be day 21 I managed to miss some days because I was getting some milage in for the 1/2 on April 10. I need to run when I can and cross train when I can't run. Scott WILL be ready for the race! I'm imagining finishing in under 2 hours. It's optimistic but not impossible.
So today is P90X Chest and Back and Ab Ripper X. I may actually do Insane Abs instead for the Cardio component. Who Loves Power Jumps??? NOT ME!! I farkin' hate them. I hate power jumps so much you have no idea.
Anyway, it's still cold and snow outside so I don't know if I'll be running. I was thinking of just hitting the gym and putting in some time on the treadmill.
So many thoughts and it's just time to do something!

Have you had a chance to check out the "Chi Running". I love it! It's really changed the way that I run and the way I think about running. When I see someone heel-strike running I just want to run up to them and tell them about Chi Running.

Anyway, things are getting pretty busy with me now. I've probably got too much on my plate right now but I'll all get sorted out and accomplished 1 item at a time.

Snow Schmoe...

So we were SUPPOSED to get 25 cm or about 11 inches of snow between yesterday and today. Guess what? Wrong again weatherman. Maybe down south of Calgary they got lots of snow...who cares! haha. Up north, we got but a sprinkling of snow and now it's sunny. I'll take it!

I went to the Spin Class this morning and loved it. I'm feel like I'm getting stronger and I'm able to do more during the class. It's only my 3rd week but I'm definately improving my performance. I think the running, Insanity and P90X is helping a bit...hehe.

Today is going to be a bit of a rest day in terms of running around. We did so much yesterday that there isn't much to do today but bum around and relax. It's perfect because I have some ST to catch up on.

Last night I took the boys to their first Lacrosse game in town. My oldest loved it! He was wide eyed the entire time and actually followed the game play. My youngest...not so into it. He couldn't sit still and just played with the chairs the entire time. At least he wasn't running around bothering other people. All in all, it was a good time despite the fact that it ended 2 hours after their normal bedtime. They crashed hard in the car on the drive home which was expected. My "erk" moment was when we got to the Saddledome, I thought that I'd be able to get the kids in for free since they were little but they wouldn't let them in without tickets. I was given a free ticket from my friend which was why we went in the first place. So I asked how much it would cost to get seats next to our free seat...$77!!! Are you kidding me? $77 for my 3 and 5 year old to watch a small town Lacrosse game?!?! I was pretty angry but it all turned around. There was a really nice guy who saw our situation and gave us 2 tickets! They were actually better tickets in the lower level close to the glass. And actually another guy gave us another ticket which we tried to give away. So we went from almost spending $77 for tickets to having an extra ticket that we almost couldn't give away. Crazy. I like to think that our good Karma came into play last night.

Speaking of Karma, I got to teach my boys about it in the parking lot at Costco yesterday. We were driving through the lot, looking for a spot and getting further and further from the entrance. I saw an older couple getting out of there vehicle so I stopped to let them cross the road. They were greatful and as they were walking to the entrance they saw a good spot and waved me over to it. I told my boys, "Did you see that? I was nice to them and in turn they were nice back to me. If I hadn't stopped to let them cross, they wouldn't have helped us find a good parking spot." They learned about being nice to people yesterday.

So with that, I'm going to go get some food into me. I drank lots of water, ate my Clif Shot Blocks and some Clif Shot Gel to replenish my electrolytes and carbs but I need some protein now for my sore legs.
