Goals other than weightloss

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

I have my BS degree in Health Information Management and I am a Registered Health Information Adminstrator. I am still an active member of AHIMA and I'm required to complete 30 CEs every two years.

In June 2002, the hospital I worked at downsized and my position was eliminated. I have not worked since. I don't want to go back into this field as management is very stressful in a hospital environment.

I decided I wanted to work from home and so I took a step back and started an online medical transcription course in September 2006. I have not completed it yet. I just don't have the motivation to finish since I don't really "need" to work. I've been very blessed to have a wonderful husband who lets me stay home.

My goal is to be finished with this course and pass the final before September 2009.

This is going to be harder than losing weight!!

It's wonderful that you are in a position to not need to work. Please for your own protection, finish that course and put it into practice. At least to gain some practical experience using it. Life sometimes throws curve balls and the safety net that you have a couple of options open to you, can add some peace.

Vanity size clothing

Saturday, March 14, 2009

So, my size 10's are getting just a bit big, not much, just enough that there is a need for a belt. But I needed some shorts and capri's and Penny's was having another sale and I also had a 15% off coupon from a survey I took. So I went shopping.

Not knowing whether size 8 would fit me, I grab about 7 different pairs in both 8 and 10 size. I really don't like clothes shopping and trying things on (that makes my hubby really happy cuz I don't shop much...LOL).

Off to the dressing room I go. First size 10, too big! Try size 8, and guess what??? TOO BIG!

However, I try the rest on. Out of the 7 pairs, 3 fit for a size 8 and 4 pairs I need to try a size 6. No freakin way! My size 10s weren't THAT big!! Out of the two size 8s, I only liked 1 pair. But I did want to try on 2 other pairs of 6s.

So off I go to get the 2 pairs in a 6 and some other styles in size 6, 8 and 10 (just to be safe!)

Long story short, I came home with 2 pairs of size 8, 3 pairs of size 6, a medium size workout short, 2 medium and 1 small size shirts.

Can anyone tell me,

WHAT SIZE AM I?????

Yep, even at a smaller size, I STILL hate clothes shopping! And here I thought it would be fun. At least when I was heavier, I knew what size I was!

I think it is pathetic how companies have changed sizes to make people THINK they are thin, when they aren't. There is SUCH a huge difference in brands and sizes, so you just have to try it on and see what fits.

    You are doing so good!!
Proud of you my friend.
You look fantastic just the way you are!
I can't imagine you were ever overweight,
but I do understand. The sizing these days
is just terrible. They fiddled with the #'s
and I have not clue what size to take into
the dressing room either. I try not to do that
too often, unless it's in the thrift store, while
losing weight.

See you Sunday!

I know what you mean! I'm sure I could get into some vanity size 10s but the only ones I count as true-blue honest-to-goodness are the old school Levis, regular.
Other than that I just get whatever is most flattering regardless of size. There are at least two sizing charts, American and European, which have exact measurements. The European is what people our age grew up with and the American charts got more 'forgiving' as the general population swelled with fast food in the 80s. When I was modelling and a French designer asked my size I once piously answered: 4. She rolled her snooty eyes at me and yelled across the room: 7!! I could have died! I found out to be a European 4, or the size 4 of my teen years, I have to be an American size 0, which is unhealthy for me.
So now I'd settle for an American size 7, which is the European 12, which is what size Marilyn Monroe was, so viva la curves!
I hope you are thrilled with your success and new look no matter what the tags say!!

So true about the way things are sized now adays...back 3 yrs ago I was in a size 6 in most jeans...ahhh...the gold ol days...I regress...but I still weighed 20lbs more than when I did in high school and was in the same size then...now that goes to show just how much sizing has changed thru the yrs...thats messed up. So trying on clothes was always a mystery and I bring in several sizes just to see what worked. I did always end up buying whatever jeans said they were the smallest size though , u know...an added boost of self accomplishment...gosh was I dumb. Now they are all in the closet mocking me ;) Sizes ranging from 4-12, sigh

    Kitty,

I had that problem quite a bit too when I lost my weight. Of course, none of those clothes fit anymore, but they still sit in my closet waiting for me. I had finally gotten down to a consistent size 6 but even now some 8's fit me but it's mostly 10's.

know how you feel. I have clothes in 3 or 4 different sizes too and they all fit about the same. I guess different brands fit differently, but it sure is frustrating sometimes that you have to try everything on before you buy it. Congratulations on the weight loss! Don't think I would be that small if I were nothing but a skeleton...maybe 12 or 14, but that's a long way off!

Week 10 - Winter Melt Down Challenge

Friday, March 13, 2009

Weight - 134 pounds.
Down 1 more pound! Yippeeee!

This was a good week both in calorie counts and fitness minutes.

I only went over my calories one day by 28 calories, although I have to admit, this week was tough! Tuesday I felt like I just couldn't get enough to eat! And I was craving something but I didn't know what. That was the day that I went over the calories. I felt like I went to bed hungry. I hate going to bed hungry. It's like I can't sleep when that happens. I toss and turn. So I ended getting up around 3am and having an orange. At least it was an orange. What I really wanted was a footlong sub! I did finally fall back asleep.

Today is another one of those days. Nothing is satisfying me. And I ate a hearty dinner too! DH grilled steaks and I also made steamed broccoli and sweet potato. I still have 194 calories for an evening snack but I want to save that till later in the evening so I'm able to sleep. Hope I don't blow it!

I'm not sure whats going on. It's not "that time" otherwise there would have been no stopping me. I have increased my exercise but when I plug in my calories burned from exercise, I'm not getting that notice that says you have to increase your calories eaten. So not sure whats up. But sure do hope it passes.

I did jog some more this week with my treadmill walks. Doesn't seem like it's getting any easier but hey, it's only been 2 weeks....LOL

Next week is the last week for the Winter Challenge. I HAVE to lose 1 more pound to meet my goal of losing 15 pounds in this challenge.

Oh how I hope this hunger goes away so I don't blow this last week!!

I can do it.....I know I can!

    Hey girl,

Have you been drinking enough water? Sometimes I find that if I just chug a glass, the hunger goes away. (Thirst can masquerade as hunger sometimes).

I definitely feel your pain, though. If you like milk, that really helps when I'm feeling hungry at bedtime. It also has triptophan (spelling?) the same stuff in turkey that helps you sleep.

Stay strong! You're doing great.

Week 9 - Winter Melt Down

Friday, March 06, 2009

135 pounds!!

2 more pounds gone! I really didn't think I lost any this week because 3 days I went over in my calorie count. 2 other days were pretty close to max calories and 2 days I was at the low end.
I looked at my fitness minutes and think that is what really helped this week. I did aerobics for 460 minutes this week. One of those days, I even did circuit training. Now that was tough. But at least I did some working out with weights.
4 of those days, I did intermittent jogging on the treadmill. I'd really like to keep that up too.

Measurements
Waist - 27.25" down .75"
Hips - 36.5" down .5"
Bust - 34" same, thank God, don't want to lose anymore here...LOL
Thigh - 23" down .25"
Arm - 11.25" same

Lost another 1.5" .

Gosh, if I could just motivate myself to weight train! This is a trouble goal that I have to work on.

There are only 2 more weeks of the Winter Melt Down Challenge. As long as I lose 1 pound each of those 2 weeks, I will have met my goal of losing 15 pounds in 11 weeks.

I CAN DO IT! YES I CAN!

Went out tonight with Nathan and his gf and the rest to a Japanese restaurant for Hibachi and I ate WAY too much. Those veggies were so good. I love Ginger dressing! emoticon emoticon

Week 8 - Winter Melt Down

Friday, February 27, 2009

Weight 137 pounds
Down another pound...Woo Hoo!

This week I did something I swear I would never do in my life......I started jogging!
During my 70 minutes on the treadmill, I jogged 4 times for 2 minutes each. It doesn't really seem like much but for me it was excruciatingly painful! Ok, well, it really wasn't that bad but...

The first day I did it, I barely made it through the first 2 times of the 2 minutes. I thought I was dying....LOL Then the 3rd and 4th time was a tad bit easier.

The second day I did it, basically, was just like the first.

After the jogs, once I slowed the treadmill speed, I was still walking faster than I normally walked. So I'm thinking the jogging was a good boost.

I may never be a jogger, but at least I can say I tried!

Maybe I should just stick with the step aerobics......

The more you jog the more your cells respond by making more cells to help increase your stamina, so keep at it. It is hardest at the start. emoticon
