Drinking the juice again

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Well, after being off the acai berry juice for 11 days, I went back on it. Not so much for my back, although it does help it, but because I noticed that I just don't have the get up and go that I had while on it.

I know that there is alot of negative talk about this juice but I believe it helps me. That is what counts. I slept better, my skin looked healthier and I just all over felt good. I also had more "pep in my step". I was doing step aerobics before stopping the juice and I could get through an entire 40 minute workout. I noticed this past week since I stopped taking it that I was losing steam 3/4 of the way through. Hopefully, in the next couple days, I'll have that pep back.

I don't think the acai berry is for weight loss though like it claims. I didn't notice any difference in my weight either way. Besides, I didn't start drinking it as a weighloss agent.

My husband and I have decided that we are going to research other ways to get the berry besides the Mona Vie. It comes in a capsule form but because I forget to take my vitamins a couple times a week, I'd probably forget to take this too. It also comes in a powder form. I still have more research to do.

I have one of those SUNDAY = SATURDAY pill divider thingy boxes and I put my pills in there for the week. That way I can EASILY look and see if I took my pills for the day, if FRIDAY is empty, Yep, I took them, etc.

Otherwise I can't seen to remember, it is so routine.

Being that it makes you feel so great, I hope you are successful in finding an alternative source that is convenient for you. Good luck!

Mona Vie

Saturday, November 15, 2008

About a year ago, I started drinking a product called Mona Vie. It is made with the acai berry from the Amazon. It's suppose to be one of the top rated "super foods". There are many benefits to drinking this juice.

I drink it because it helps with my back pain. In the year I've been drinking it, my back pain has been minimal. I've faithfully taken it every day for just about a year.

But here is the kicker, it's costing me $143 a month! And with the economy the way it is, I'm really torn about continuing to drink it just because of the cost. There are so many other things I could be doing with $143.

So, this is what I've decided to do. Before I discontinue it's delivery, I'm not going to take it for a month. I'm going to monitor my back pain and see if that changes. Also, my energy level as that is suppose to be another benefit of the juice.

Anyway, if I see a difference, depending on good or bad, that will determine if the cost is worth it to me.

Today is the first day I haven't taken it.

But on the up side, I have been feeling good lately, and that could also be from the diet and exercise.

So how is this working out after 2 weeks without it?

I think you have a good plan, and hopefully it will turn out that you are still feeling good without it. Diet and exercise certainly could be helping you tremendously. However, if it turns out that the juice is key in your well-being, perhaps there is a less expensive brand you could try? Good luck!

I won't make a judgement about anything that you feel helps you, but I know I could buy a lot of frozen blueberries and other fruit with $143 and have a lot of money left over.

I'm glad you are doing the exercise and working on your overall diet. A year is a good amount of time to have helped heal your body.

Are you a LEO? Leo rules the spine and so often has back problems.

I hope you are using YOGA. Rodney Yee has a good video on back help. He has even done videos for MAYO CLINIC. emoticon

I better get started.....

Monday, November 10, 2008

I've never blogged before. I really don't even like to write. I never know what to say. But, I figured once I got to my goal and living a healthy lifestyle, I'll want to be reminded of how I got there. So here goes.....

In April of 2007 I was at my highest weight ever, 167 lbs. Life at that time was very stressful for both my husband and I for a variety of reasons. April 28th, dh quit his job. May 2nd, we took off on a Grand Adventure!

We headed to the west coast and for over 5 weeks we hiked and camped in 14 National Parks. We had the time of our lives!

By the time we got home, I was down to 154 lbs. But because I wasn't hiking or exercising anymore, and eating more since we weren't cooking in the campsites, in just a little over a year, I gained back most of the weight, 164 lbs. I'm 5'3" so that much weight makes me look big.

I lost my dad in April 2008 and my mother in law less then a month later in May 2008. Life became hard again and I went into another depression that lasted the entire summer.

Once summer was over, things started looking up and I felt like I was getting my life back. I quit the antidepressants and started back on my treadmill. I lost 3 pounds and starting feeling good about myself again.

I discovered SparkPeople quite by accident on October 4, 2008. I was looking at work out videos on the internet when Coach Nicole popped on the screen with an abdominal workout. Looked interesting and now at this point I'm intrigued.

So I headed over to SparkPeople.com, checked out the site and registered. My starting weight on that day was 161 lbs.

Today, I'm 5 lbs lighter. I owe it to SP for keeping me motivated! I've met quite a few new friends already and I'm very determined to get to a healthy lifestyle.

I really like it here. I'm so happy I found this site.

Thank you SparkPeople for making this possible.

Good for you giving up the antidepresants Kitty! More and more studies are finding they are more harmful than helpful.
I also battle clinical depression and find walking in the sunshine, fish oil and journaling my feelings to be as healing as just about antything and when all else fails I sit at the beach and lisen to the waves.
Good blog!
