a beautiful walk

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Today was cloudy, turned sunny.I did some errands for senior citizens, cleaned my house, ate a salad with grilled chicken, boiled egg and a water. My dog was looking hopeful so,I leashed her up and we went on an adventure. We walked up and down the hills, waved at friends,She ate a dog treat,I ate a granola bar.She visited her doggy friends,I visited my walking group. She was so tired when we came home she got some water and fell asleep. She is getting old and im trying to love her as much as I can, while I can, before she gets too old. emoticon SUSAN

Sounds like a nice walk! We finally got out here, too, today. It's been so frigid and then the kids and I were sick. It was great to be outside!

paying it forward

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

I stepped into walmart for fresh veggies and saw lotion/body wash, pouf gift packs for $2 & $3.I thought of my nursing home pals! They adore getting stuff they can use and like smelling good too.The men were not left out!I spied some candy marked down,I know which ones are diabetic and picked up sugar free and regular truffles, mints and xmas cookies. My Granddaughter is 15 now and was thrilled to go with me to hand out the gift packs we made.I looked over and saw her talking to Madison age 78 and soon had her hand polishing her nails!Maddy is very quiet and Mercedes had her laughing. She smiled over at me and said Dont worry Grammy I got this!
We brought some rolls, deli meat, chips and drinks. They were so excited! My DG was getting hugs and pats on the back. When she went back home she called and said Grammy!I know what I want to do!What? I think I already knew.Be a nursing home helper!I laughed and said You are a natural. She's already going around asking her friends to help gather nursing home residents much needed items like toothpaste, lotion, toothbrushes, deoderant!!
!.Her angry Dad called to accuse me of getting her to do it!!I told him She is loving it and at least she's not being an airhead at 15!She is thinking of others! And of her future. emoticon SUSAN

I love the undies & leggings idea!!! There are "oops" days & it would make an embarrassing situation a little more tolerable, I'm sure!
Your granddaughter sounds like a real sweetheart. "Angry Dad" needs to keep his pie-hole shut & be happy he has a good girl with a good heart. Keep up the positive reinforcement! emoticon emoticon

Her father and mother are divorced and angry dad says I want DG to be a "hillbilly nurse"to some old "geezers"!She told him herself she would rather do something for someone that matters. He thinks when she comes to visit I work on her head???I told him I gave her the choice to visit with the people or stay in the day room.I would never have her around anyone unstable.

That's wonderful ! It seems like your granddaughter takes after her wonderful grandma !! Why would her father be upset that she was doing something kind and selfless ? Or was he more concerned that his daughter wanted to work in an elder care facility instead of say being a lawyer or some other money making professional ?

Sheesh, why the worry ? She's only 15. Who knows what she'll be doing 10 years from now. but one thing for sure, she'll be a compassionate person. And that's what this world needs more of. We need more compassionate decent people.

Yesterday was vintage photo day

Sunday, January 06, 2013

I started asking my family to post old pics of me as a kid.I had a few my youngest sister copied but maybe 3.At first it was me and her and as the pics got funny, more relatives started posting theirs! We were laughing so hard that we got involved and lost track of time.I ended up with about 345 photo's of me and family as kids!It was a very fun day!I talked to relatives I hadnt seen since I was 10 and have something to show my daughters and grands.I even saw pics of my cousin's running in marathons. They were wearing the uber short gym coach shorts!I had a cousin that was super obese as a kid and is now super muscular and healthy. He said he wants to go through his pics and post them.My sister thanked me for asking her about those pics. She enjoyed the day! emoticonSUSAN

Some things come back to haunt you!

Saturday, January 05, 2013

My mom and dad split when I was 12.Mom being the ever loving, vigilant mom she was asked me to be a big girl.Stay here and take care of dad she crooned. When I get us a place I'll send for you.Of course she WAS taking my 2 cute younger sisters with her and that's all I saw at the moment. The both of them were making faces at me like na na na boo boo!The 12 year old child side couldnt see past the red hot pain and rage to even say good bye!I was sick with grief the next weeks and so Dad decided to drop into a yard sale one day.Look Sus!I got ya some boots!!they were authentic red Roy Rogers cowboy boots.I let him scoot the boots onto my feet.Stand up he laughed they look great on ya!Oh brother I thought,He dont have a clue!Dad I whined girls dont wear boots like these.Im about to be a teen age girl! Its okay honey just make your old dad happy and wear them.So Every chance he got in the next weeks,he made me wear those shiny red boots.I despised them and tried to "lose"them in every way possible. One day I was helping him with burning brush around my grandpop's farm.I hatched what I thought was a brilliant plan to rid myself of those awful boots.I ran and de-booted myself, threw them in the brush and ran to the truck.Dad hollered FLASHFIRE!!which meant that when the fire got started,it went very fast down the piles of trees.I looked up to see dad carrying a smoking pair of boots.Hey!he yelled, you must have dropped your boots!I saw them and grabbed them before they caught fire!I couldnt do anything but look perplexed..He started laughing so loud he scared the dogs off. When we cleaned up the gas cans and got in the truck he grinned at me and said"we will stop at the shoe store when we get in town"You deserve some new shoes.I grinned back and Knew I was figured out.It goes to show that you can burn boots but they can come back to haunt you! emoticon SUSAN

Yes sugarsmom2 I forgave her and loved her deeply until she died.It was a struggle but eventually we did mend our fences. She felt it was completely normal to leave me with dad.He was never the same again and died a year and a half after she did.He told my brother he couldnt live any longer,he was going to be with mom and was gone.I hope they are together in heaven.

My grandkids went caroling

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

Before my grandkids could open gifts, they had to go caroling. After a few minutes of pinched faces and I dont wanna's they agreed.Quite a few of our neighbors are elderly and got a huge kick out of it.The kids were offered money and received hot cocoa and baked goods/Candy/gifts.They had so much praise for their talented singing that the smiles were still on their faces the next day.WE WANT TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!!was all we heard.
They even forgot about opening gifts for a whole hour afterwards. emoticon emoticon emoticonSUSAN
