Some things come back to haunt you!

Saturday, January 05, 2013

My mom and dad split when I was 12.Mom being the ever loving, vigilant mom she was asked me to be a big girl.Stay here and take care of dad she crooned. When I get us a place I'll send for you.Of course she WAS taking my 2 cute younger sisters with her and that's all I saw at the moment. The both of them were making faces at me like na na na boo boo!The 12 year old child side couldnt see past the red hot pain and rage to even say good bye!I was sick with grief the next weeks and so Dad decided to drop into a yard sale one day.Look Sus!I got ya some boots!!they were authentic red Roy Rogers cowboy boots.I let him scoot the boots onto my feet.Stand up he laughed they look great on ya!Oh brother I thought,He dont have a clue!Dad I whined girls dont wear boots like these.Im about to be a teen age girl! Its okay honey just make your old dad happy and wear them.So Every chance he got in the next weeks,he made me wear those shiny red boots.I despised them and tried to "lose"them in every way possible. One day I was helping him with burning brush around my grandpop's farm.I hatched what I thought was a brilliant plan to rid myself of those awful boots.I ran and de-booted myself, threw them in the brush and ran to the truck.Dad hollered FLASHFIRE!!which meant that when the fire got started,it went very fast down the piles of trees.I looked up to see dad carrying a smoking pair of boots.Hey!he yelled, you must have dropped your boots!I saw them and grabbed them before they caught fire!I couldnt do anything but look perplexed..He started laughing so loud he scared the dogs off. When we cleaned up the gas cans and got in the truck he grinned at me and said"we will stop at the shoe store when we get in town"You deserve some new shoes.I grinned back and Knew I was figured out.It goes to show that you can burn boots but they can come back to haunt you! emoticon SUSAN

Oh, that boot story was really wonderful! And I am glad you and your mom reconnected. But the image of the smoking boots is priceless!

Yes sugarsmom2 I forgave her and loved her deeply until she died.It was a struggle but eventually we did mend our fences. She felt it was completely normal to leave me with dad.He was never the same again and died a year and a half after she did.He told my brother he couldnt live any longer,he was going to be with mom and was gone.I hope they are together in heaven.

My grandkids went caroling

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

Before my grandkids could open gifts, they had to go caroling. After a few minutes of pinched faces and I dont wanna's they agreed.Quite a few of our neighbors are elderly and got a huge kick out of it.The kids were offered money and received hot cocoa and baked goods/Candy/gifts.They had so much praise for their talented singing that the smiles were still on their faces the next day.WE WANT TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!!was all we heard.
They even forgot about opening gifts for a whole hour afterwards. emoticon emoticon emoticonSUSAN

Where have manners gone?

Sunday, December 30, 2012

I was grocery shopping with DH when a man reached his armpit across my face without uttering one word about"Excuse me" or "oh im sorry"I said "Excuse you sir"He rolled his eyes and walked away.It felt like I was the only person with any manners!I was in line at a buffet getting a salad when a lady just walked up and took her turn without waiting for me....Im very easy going and hate to make a big deal but when does it end?Do we act this way in Church?Do we walk out of church and forget about manners? My mama was a big beleiver in acting a certain way rich or poor. She would box our ears if we were any type of rude,to anyone!I hope if this is you that its a change that gets made in 2013! emoticon SUSAN

My pet peeve is when you hold a door open for someone and they don't acknowledge it at all!!!! If they don't say anything i will say "YOU'RE WELCOME" so everyone around us can hear it...sometimes I will then get a Thank you :)

It really is terrible, isn't it? Fortunately though, I moved to one of the most pleasant, friendly cities on the planet I think -- I just can't get over how considerate people are here of one another. It's been a very refreshing change!

I think we all have noticed this, but I remember what my parents taught me--always be considerate of others and I do. emoticon

Unfortunately, Americans are getting a reputation for not having manners. I agree with you. I wish we would return to the days when manners reigned.

Unfortunately this world is riddled with those types because all sense of manners and values have been tossed out the window long ago.

I gave a party to my oldsters

Friday, December 28, 2012

I have not been to see the nursing home residents for a while. They email me now and again but,Its been hard to find time with holiday guests, cooking, cleaning, entertaining and running around like im dazed.I walked in the door and saw many faces brighten up!I was suddenly bombarded by questions, hugs, laughter and kisses. My husband helped me bring in about 65 gifts, punch, ice cream, cake and music to dance to.Trust me when I say it felt so good to see them laughing without cares and dancing until they had to go nap. They sang, played games and DH was the DJ!He actually stayed and helped me.The nurses didnt need to tell me what a great man he is!!Hours later when we packed up everyone cheered and clapped for us.We were happy and exhausted. The nurses gifted me with an ipod and a gift card to shoe carnival for $100!Wow!! emoticonSUSAN

Those people wait for some good times at the nursing homes. They seem to really love you, you make their day when you come. How nice to get gifts from the nursing home, but then you give your time to brighten some older peoples day.

That's must have been a fun party !! Sounds like everyone had a great time. I really should volunteer at my local elder care facility. I'll bet it really can be fulfilling.

Stand Up for...You!

Thursday, December 27, 2012

I have this uber-smart person in my life,Jan that sees me and it's downhill from there.Hey,what has happened to you?!!!she shouts, did you quit?Im so disappointed in you!She dont have kids,a dog or anything to do.I avoid her at all costs. She has'nt said one nice word to me in 5 years. She's the wife of my husbands boss.I have went so far as to hide in the ladies room. Not because I fear her but, because I cant stand her!She is slender and perfect like a doll.To hear her tell it she has never gained an ounce. She is Miss Perfect. She came to the annual Christmas party in a red satin form fitting dress flirting with all the men and batting her fake lashes.FAKE sums it all up,everything about her even her personality.I've tried to get past it but she cornered me at the party and proceeded to say every mean, rude ugly thing she could to me about my weight AGAIN!My DH saw me across the room and said my horns were coming out.My mama always said that letting a bully beat someone and you did nothing, you were just as bad.I grabbed myself a plate of food,a bottle of water and made sure to sit where she she couldnt be near me.I already had a headache from passing up a meal and was getting sick.Of course she popped up behind Lila talking loudly and had her in tears.Someone said why dont you shut-up and sit down and act human?Im tired of this crap!I realized it was me!!Oh my gosh I had spoken out loud my thoughts! But,I just felt so beaten and upset by her rudeness that I spoke up!She had everyone in the room pissed off by then and ready to ambush her.She laughed it off and walked away with an Im better than you,my husband makes more money than yours attitude.Im an easy going person and I apologized to her but,she will leave me alone from now on.Im losing weight slowly and healthfully and I dont explain it to everyone I meet! emoticonSUSAN
