My mama would clean the dust off the dust bunnies emoticonShe would throw us out of the house to clean!Im not near as bad.I do feel better in a clean and organized home though.I realized one day that,I couldnt find a bill because my DH gets the mail and throws it all over.Newspapers were having babies and shoes were taking over!I began organizing everything in my sights and freaked him out.My Granny(dads mama)always said everything has a place.Well my DH is not happy but he can find his ties and fave shoes now!!I filled the car with cast offs 5 times!I had 8 graters, about 30 coffee mugs,12 measuring cups! But,my oven mitts are horrible emoticonI wrote a list of things I truly use and the rest is going to the low income soldiers.Got any organizing tips for me?I sure can use them! emoticonSUSAN

This one freed me for life:

Take all kitchen gadgets from the kitchen drawers or other gadget gathering places you have in the kitchen and put them in a box in another room or closet.

Mark your calendar for one month from today to go to the Salvation Army dropoff center.

When you need a gadget, you must take it from the box in the other room to use it, and then you can wash it and put it back in the drawer (or other holder) from which you took it. Continue this process for one month.

The calendar will tell you it is time to peek into that box that's still in another room or closet, and see what has been cluttering your kitchen for so long that you haven't used in a month.

If you must, you can yank and salvage a helping hand (5 items MAXIMUM) from the box before you donate it.

Enjoy your clutter free drawers or gadget space!

Sorry, I'm not good at organizing myself. However, I need to get to it, bacause I seem to be drowning in clutter. I think I'll use the previous advice and check out the FlyLady.
Thanks for the helpful blog.

I'd love for you to come to my house. I'm a procrastinator and so things get set back often until I need to find something. But I will take inspiration from your blog and the accompanying comments and get started in the morning. See that . . . procrastinating again, but I have an excuse since it's almost midnight.

emoticon right backatcha, Susan, for some really great progress on many organizational fronts there!! have accomplished so much there! I can't improve on the excellent suggestions IILAAD and Donna have given you about - do check her out! She's also on Facebook, and Spark has at least (?) one FlyLady team. I've looked at scads of organizational books at the library, too; Julie Morgenstern is the name of one expert whose books you're likely to find there.

Any time I've been faced with a large, unwieldy organizational project that's going to be time-consuming, I only work at it for the 15 minutes at a time that FlyLady advises, even using a kitchen timer, as she does, to log the time. You will be blown away by what you can get done just 15 minutes at a time! Keep us posted! - the other Susan

Hi Susan - I love It's free to sign up.

She breaks it down one thing at a time, and encourages working on it 15 minutes at a time.

Following the plan has really helped me de-clutter and organize my house without getting overwhelmed.

Good luck!

My mouth gets me in trouble, but sometimes....

Thursday, January 05, 2012

We all are in this world together! For the life of me,I cant stand someone to stand back, observe others and decide they should be where the sun rises and sits! That they are far better than anyone else!
I was at the hospital for what seemed like the millionth time.
They insist on weighing everyone that checks in.
Two very overweight teens were sitting beside me eating donuts.
They were drinking huge sodas also.
A twig of a woman waltzed up right there in front of everyone,
"You fat girls would eat anything, would'nt you?I wish I could eat
a bag of donuts!
They turned red with shame and embarassment.
I could'nt take it
"Wait a minute little girl! She turned looked at me and pointed to herself..ME?
Yes mam..YOU!
Do I know you?
No,but you are about to!Do you know these girls here?
Uh no ,she answered with a little eye rolling.
Yet you walked up here and spoke very rudely!
She sat down in a seat.
It disgusts me seeing fat people just gorging on food!
They look like pigs.
What are you?80 lbs?
Does anyone ever say you look like a stick figure?
All the time!
Does it bother you?
No,yes,I dont know!
What gives you the right to go hurt another person?
Because they are fat they have no feelings?
Did you see the size of the nurses?
Are you going to be rude to them?
Before I knew it,
about 8 people were discussing weight.
I held the girls hand, looked kindly into her eyes and said,
I got up to leave.
She got up and hugged me.
So did the teens.
Life is too short to carry burdens around.
Take those demons of anger, hate, judgement, fear, resentment and decide if you want them in your life......

Trust me ya'll my heart was pounding with anger at first!Until... I stepped back, took a breath and realized she was a scared little girl...spouting anger at someone else to make herself feel better. We all have the ability to look at someone calmly.

    Good for you, Susan!!

I love that you compassionately stood up against this rudeness. It's one more victory in the right direction, and, I feel, they all add up...

To comment on what others eat is the height of ignorance. We've got enough judgmental harshness out there, and it is NEVER healing... Thank you! - Another Susan

You're a very kindhearted and decent person !!

One thing I've noticed is how rude and insensitive people have become as a generality. whatever happened to having manners ? everyone seems soooo "entitled" these days, just like that woman. She felt entitled to tell those two teens how fat they were and yet, she didn't like it when you reminded her how bad she must feel when people call her skinny or anorexic.

as you correctly noted,"people don't seem to think about the ramifications of their words until after the damage is done". I blame a twitter mentality. people can type faster than they can think. that's what that girl did. She effectively tweeted her thoughts and you called her on them.

good for you !

So many times we walk away from a situation we could change if we had the nerve to 'butt in' to speak up.

You didn't walk away. Awsome. You changed lives that day.
