Seafood Gumbo for Christmas dinner!

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

To spite my injured ankle,Im having fun!The party for the old folks was a hit,They sang, danced and ate pizza and turkey, everyone recieved a gift and nobody was sad!!I went and bought the new baby a ton of things she needs, got my house cleaned and bought the ingredients to Christmas dinner...Seafood Gumbo!Yes,im stepping outside the turkey and dressing we usually have.I want to be with everyone and not stuck in the kitchen. It's SUPPOSED to be sunny and 50 on Christmas day so we are all going to take a long walk after dinner. We'll see because usually the family picks a spot and goes to sleep while I walk.
My doctor is really pleased with my blood pressure going WAY down!Even my husband is helping out by using less salt when HE cooks.
My youngest is skipping classes and trying to place the blame on me?
I just laughed at that strategy of guilt tripping.
Me and my walking group had Subway yesterday,we had so much fun
and they have lost weight!
However you can stay healthy and happy this Holiday Season,Do it!!
I wish you all the greatest week,Enjoy yourselves! emoticonSUSAN

All too much going on Sue, slow down, pamper yourself, be still for a little while. You are precious and deserve to be treated like a delicate flower.

Remembering Christmas past

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

When we were kids we were really poor.Just getting clothes from the church box was enough but,if we got an orange, apple, peppermint stick and chocolate we were the most greatful! It didnt have to be about gifts to make us kids happy. We knew we were'nt getting anything so we made each other things. My oldest sister made me a quilt for the bed my dad hauled out of the town dump for just me.Gramms made me a cotton ticking mattress for it and I felt like a queen!Mom was the coolest...she made me my own pillow with my name on it.Family and friends dropped off fruitcake(ew) and peanut brittle. My aunts sewed alot so I would get pj's and gowns, popcorn balls and homemade caramels. We would cut down a cedar tree and decorate it with tin foil stars and paper chains.Glow in the dark ornaments and strings of popcorn. It was fun to sit by the fire and hear stories of mom and dads childhood Christmas pasts.Gramms would have us kids all crammed into the loft of the farmhouse eating caramel apples and telling us the most important thing about the Season...LOVE!I appreciate all I have now but,The way we lived back then I wouldnt change a thing...well maybe a bit more groceries...LOL...We had fun, love and didnt expect anything so,if we did get an unexpected gift...WOOHOO!I kept memories in my heart that have made me far richer than material things ever could.... emoticonSUSAN

I'm from those old days when average people didn't have much and had to make do. In many ways, we were lucky to have a privileged upbringing, with no shortage of material things and wonderful gifts. Sometimes, though, I wonder if you didn't get the best gift of all. You got the gift of appreciation, and it shows in how giving you are. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
