Riding in the car with boys!

Saturday, September 10, 2011

So my 17 year old tells me one day she was going to go to the mall after school and grab a bite with her"friends".I'm assuming that they are girls and boys. When she came home it was with 3 boys!!In your opinion is that a safe thing? She claims they have been her friends for 6 years.I trust her alot but,If they wanted to take her by surprise it would be easy! She thinks Im not trusting because they are boys. They are not your regular size boys either!!Am I being unreasonable or cautious??I'd rather her be safe than be sorry emoticonSUSAN

I agree that you're getting some sound advice here. Your daughter is only 17, and you need to know what she's doing, where she goes, and who she's spending her time with. I have to wonder how it is that she's been friends with these boys since she was eleven years old and yet it seems you haven't been aware of them until now? I know you want to trust your daughter, but you are responsible for watching out for her while she's still a child. I think you need to get to know the friends (boys or girls) she's out with. In this case, I think you have reason for concern.

There is some great advice here. Really getting to know her friends as individuals is important. I'd also be concerned about who's doing the drivng.

It doesn't matter the size of the boys, creeps come in all sizes.

Sue, I was 17 and raped by my 'friend' of 8 years. There was only one of him.
Childlike faith that boys see friendship as wholesome and playful as girls do is a recipe for disaster. The only reason a girl allows herself to be alone with 3 young men is because she craves the attention and affirmation. It is only a matter of time before boundaries are crossed. Either she'll be experimenting with her sexual prowess and have things under her control, or she won't be so fortunate. Either way, she has to to face reality that 1:3 is too much sexual tension and she needs to care enough about herself to take safety precautions.
My mother tried to warn me...I ignored her. She ended up taking me to counseling for a year.

She's 17, but she's known them since she was 11, therefore, you must already know them too. If you don't already know them, then there is a bit of a problem. You need to get to know them, and fast. If this is the case, keep your eyes and ears open, and choose the right moment to discuss your worst fears with your daughter, respectfully and with love and support.

I always got along better with the guys than the girls at that age, so it was not uncommon for me to be the only girl in the group. I, in turn, was treated like one of the guys and looked at my male friends like brothers, nothing else. We girls know how to shut a guy down if we're not interested in "that" type of relationship, and the guys get it. This really could be just a group of friends, but if you don't know them yourself, start to create a place at the house for all of them to hang for awhile. Go as far as to invite them to a special gathering, maybe for a political discussion. You may discover they're as upstanding as your own, and that she has good taste in friends.

As a Mom I can understand your concern!!! Even though they have been friends of hers, do you know any of them??? I mean really KNOW them, not just in passing?? I can honestly say I had more friends at that age, that were boys, but my Mother would have questioned going with a group of them, without any other girls going as well.... I am an extreme worry wart, however, if my son wanted to go out with a group of girls, I would let him, but not in a car with them!!!! I am probably no help..... Sorry.... Shannon

I am not ocb but,I get in a cleaning frenzy and if the dog gets too close,I'll wash her too..LOL!Every once in a while all the dirt from ones shoes, the dog coming in and out and grandkids eating all over...calls for a good once or twice over! With my bucket and gloves on,my headphones, safety glasses and sponge I look like a sci-fi creature! emoticonHeavy cleaning burns calories and is good for my home.Besides it will be two days and I'll have to do it all over again! emoticonSUSAN

I love to clean, especially since I discovered microfibres! I've been unwell and now am relishing the chance to get into the housework. If only I wasn't so messy... but it's a CLEAN mess!

Cleaning out some cobwebs

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Exercise clears my head and at the same time makes me think!Sometimes my thoughts are,Wouldnt it be cool if they could develop pills that were safe and affordable enough to help us reduce our weight? And would we think.Hmm if im losing weight on 3 per day...6 will be better??Then I feel guilty and think a cure for cancer is WAY more important than my weight!!My Aunt in Tennessee is battling breast cancer,my cousin is battling diabetes,my friend has a brain tumor and Im here wanting to lose weight so I can be healthy.Am I selfish?I dont think so because diet and exercise can prevent diseases.I have worn out shorts, tanks, sport bra's,athletic shoes and two exercise balls! My treadmill and elliptical dont have any dust on them.I am grateful I am determined to be strong in all this because it is NOT easy..... emoticonEmotions can be and are prevalent... emoticonSUSAN

Not selfish when it comes to your own health.

Scientists and chemists are constantly working on cures for all kinds of things...

So you are thankful you are able to exercise... and I agree with ShassySue, that's a blessing.

I felt so GOOD I went to the gym

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

My friend came by to ask did I want to go to the gym?She knows I have problems with the smell and hate to wait on the equipment but,I went!we always go our seperate ways and come back and get on the equipment together.Of course I am a people person and struck up a conversation with a young woman sitting on a bench. She confided that she felt too fat to get on the treadmill!I told her that she needed to look around at all of the fat people at least trying to do something.I encouraged her to hop on next to me and she did!My friend Bailey came in and helped me cheer her on and she went ten minutes...woohoo!To our complete shock she bursted into tears and said she was a wuss!!We both hugged her and said she was not!Bailey told her she did great and she signed up for treadmill trainer.Alot of us stop doing anything physical, eat more, gain weight and feel bad.Your body needs to readjust to what it's become accustomed to NOT doing!.....Our fires here have been put out for now...we are so dry from no rain we cant afford to do anything that will cause a spark...Im treading lightly on the pavement...LOL!It's cooler and thats such a blessing to us.... emoticonSUSAN
