Changing my home while changing me!

Friday, July 01, 2011

I have been changing curtains, painting and re-decorating my home.old stuff we hang on to is going byebye.Im tired of the spiders and mice enjoying the new condo's they have built in my garage.I'm always going to do something with an item,we might need it! But,it's like holding on to weight and making excuses not to eat right or exercise. The people in the city shelter asked for donations and I am headed down there on monday for the annual 4th of july household goods drive for helping families.Think about it fellow pack rats,If you have something just sitting in your house/shed/garage/patio donate it and clean up your clutter!! emoticonSUSAN

I've been doing the same thing. I have been donating so much stuff, but we still seem to have more! Definitely feels good to get rid of the clutter! emoticon

I can relate. If you've noticed my SP wallpaper, that's stuff I OWN! I've been donating boxes and bags galore, but I never seem to gain new space. Lots of stuff and little house is not a good combination! Sounds like you're making way more progress than I am. Congrats!

Amazing how happy you feel when you've accomplished so much! I guess we really ARE responsible for our own happiness! You've truly accomplished something that took ALOT of effort, and now you have earned all rights to feel GOOD!

I hope your day is beautiful too!

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

I wake up every morning and try to enjoy a few minutes, just marveling at what we have!I love nature to the fullest! When I take a walk,I stop and look at an odd wildflower, watch the hummingbirds play, laugh at my dog(trying to catch all the bunnies is futile)I admire the birds especially the cardinals and bluejays! The lizards are super fast catching bugs and theres Toady Toad Face an old toad that's lived under our flower beds for years(he has one foot) The birds sound as though they are screaming, they are chirping so loud!!The City has moved the city limits out past us now.The deer, rabbit, squirrel, skunks, possum and hawk have all been displaced by houses and condo's.We used to have such quiet surroundings and now they turned a two way highway into a 6 lane!!We now have 5 churches in a one mile radius and 4 convenience stores,3 schools,2 longhorn cattle companies have always been here amongst it all!I'm watching a beautiful butterfly flit along on my zinnias and im having a beautiful day. Rain or shine thats how my spirit has become happy no matter what!! emoticonSUSAN

I love reading your blogs. I also enjoy nature very much, luckily so far there hasn't been too much development where I live although there are about six new houses that were built in the past 23 years. So far our neighborhood is very quiet.

One morning I woke up feeling a little depressed and I looked at the window and saw two morning doves just sitting on the cement steps outside of my home. They weren't doing anything but just sitting there peacefully...

So often, we are so busy we never notice any of this, and that's so sad. Some mornings, I sit in the yard and listen to the birds. It's aas though there's a species contest to see who can make the most noise or sing the loudest. I love it.

Sounds wonderful. I bet you miss all that nature.

It has been so hot and dry here the deer are starting to come to our pond. It is so sad because they are coming all the way from the National Forest trying to survive. They have to cross a main road and several fences.

It's truly HOT in TEXAS!!

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Make sure ya'll are getting enough water and try to stay cool! That is if you are in a hot climate!Check on your furry friends if they stay outdoors and never leave a child, adult or pet in the car!!I watched a news report yesterday about a woman leaving her car running(with ac on) and her father who had just had surgery was asleep when the car conked out!Her luck was good because someone reported they thought the old man was dead!!He survived thank goodness.Even new cars can die!! emoticon I dont want anyone to be sorry emoticonSUSAN

Another good reason to NOT leave children, pets or elderly in the car!
I am in Texas too and don't like this unseasonable heat wave! My dh got heat exhaustion already.

I love the Texas summers! You just have to dress properly, keep hydrated, and limit your sun exposure in the afternoon. Of course I drive to the mountains if I want to camp in the summer. I just can't sleep when the night time temperature never cools.

Cars are a death trap! Anyone that leaves their children unattended in a car should face the full penalty of the law.

Caring about others!

Monday, June 27, 2011

I love people! My elderly friends(65-98)are always waiting for me with a hug and a smile!I was polishing Ruby's nails and she started telling me a story. You know the "I REMEMBER WHEN" stories. She stopped, looked embarrassed and said you are probably tired of these stories by now!Elijah yelled from across the dayroom "SUSAN LOVES US"why would she be tired of our stories?Almost all the residents laughed heartily.I took her hand in mine, looked her in the eyes and said Elijah is right,Because,I love you!And the things I learn can turn my face red...they are just like old teenagers! They flirt, hurt and play games.I learned today that one of my favorite nurses passed away last friday and I cried. The residents all lined up around me waiting for a hug and in all the sadness Elijah yells.."Dont hug her too hard she might break"he is a character and I cant believe that out of a family of 19 he has one great niece that comes by to see him!!She brings him chocolate that he passes out to the others.he winks at me and says "I dont want to ruin my girlish figure"I lost my grandparents in my early to late teens and these folks that I adore, fill a void.It does'nt take long to give them a little of your time...... emoticonSUSAN

My last working years were at a long term care facility. I too was always good with the old folk. Now I am one of those elderly who act like a teenager. Wish I'd had this gumption when I WAS a teenager.

I'm with you here, too! We visit MIL every day, and sometimes, the folks are in that teenager mood and a lot of fun. It's dementia and Alzheimer's care, so the wits aren't always the same, but we do listen carefully to all the stories, and mess around with them, and have a few laughs. Some are consistent, but MIL isn't, so we do have to be careful because she gets jealous easily.

I used to believe that old saying "With age comes wisdom", but have discovered that sometimes, age arrives alone.

That is nice what you do. I was at a rehab facility for just a few moments while my husband was at the doctor's in the same building. It was kinda sad seeing many elderly people just sitting at the dinner room tables basically just looking at each other. It is a nice facility but there didn't seem too much verbal interaction between the people who resided there. It was sad because everyone seemed depressed.
