Thursday, May 26, 2011

Its weird how when I was a kid that I thought once we were a certain age,we were grown and had learned alot already.Well, my wise grandmother said to me,Child you will never stop learning!Oh how smart she was!Everyday is a learning lesson and I have a new lease on life.My blood pressure is lower,I have less headaches, and my pants are getting looser. My doctor gave me a woo-hoo and a yay!!I hope you all feel as good as I do!! emoticon sp!

get your colonoscopy!!

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

I go to a military hospital and was being seen for my blood pressure.I asked my Doc about getting a colonoscopy and he said "Its really not necessary right now,are you having problems? Well,no im not but i heard on Dr.Oz that at age 50 i need one!He disagreed but told me he'd have the clinic call me and set up a date.Well, that is an experience I wont forget and they found three pollyps!!My wait was nerve wracking but worth it!!!I am cancer free!!If you are afraid to do it,dont be!They were so wonderful to me. emoticon sparkers!!

Definitely use your own judgment (even if you are younger)! My brother was having some stomach issues and pain which went on for over a year and the E.R. he went to kept sending him home and telling him he had diverticulitus and telling him what "not to eat." Well over a year later he went in with severe pain and vomiting and they found stage 3-C colon cancer...they didn't do a colonoscopy on him, originally, because they said he was "too young" to have one done (he was 36 when his symptoms started). To SOME extent I understand their "reason" but after 6 E.R. trips in one year with no relief (even after dietary changes) you would THINK someone would have at least suggested it. They had to rush him into emergency surgery and luckily were able to get all of the cancer and re-section his bowel but it was a scary situation that COULD have been avoided or at least minimilized with one "little" test. Thank you for bringing this to light Sue and I'm SO glad to hear that you are cancer free!!!

Great advice! If you're in a high-risk category, meaning someone close in your family has been diagnosed with colon cancer, the age to get your first screening is even younger than 50. I got mine and I'm okay. So just do it, it could be the difference between life and death--for my Dad, it was the latter. :(

Excellent advice! We all should be paying attention to this, and other health maintenance issues as well. I must say, I'm happy to see fearlessly open communication to jump start life saving urgency on matters like this.

THANK YOU!

My family is changing!

Monday, May 23, 2011

So a few friends had us over for a cookout,I almost gasped when I saw all they had made to eat!!NO salad,NO water,NO anything healthy! It was swimming in grease and they made punch so sweet I almost gagged.About 20 exquisite desserts adorned a table and not even my little Queen of sweets could finish a small portion! My husband came over and told me he would be right back, not to eat anything!Puzzled I sat and chatted with the girls a while. When he returned he whispered to me that the food was not good for me and he brought me some water and a grilled chicken salad emoticon coming from him that was huge!!We left about two hours later and my two were starving????Oh mom that food was salty, too sweet and cooked with chunks of bacon fat...EWWW!My hubby agreed....Of course this morning I recieved emails from the girls at the party telling me I was wrong for not gorging on all that food....I replied,I have to take care of me and you take care of you!Understand that I was NOT rude in any way and whatever situation Im in, I can choose what goes in my mouth... emoticonsparkers

My husband and daughter don't eat cheese at all. My daughter just hates the stuff and my husband has a dairy sensitivity. I have learned to pack a lunch box for social gatherings. Kid's birthday parties might be pizza for example and she won't touch the stuff.

Good for your hubby for helping you out!

It always amazes me how insensitive and rude some people can be.
My wife is allergic to peas, I know it sounds weird, it was confirmed by her Doctor. She gets physically ill if she eats them. We went to a friends house for dinner and they served a main course that had peas in it. My wife didn't want to make a scene so she just ate very little and picked around the peas. They made comment about it and my wife explained that she was allergic, they just scowled at her. After not hearing from them for a while I checked up on my friend to find out they were mad at us because my wife was so rude to not eat the peas!

As you can guess we don't see them anymore.

Wow, Susy!! This one really hit me. Obviously you were sensitive to the effort your friends had put into preparing a huge spread. Handling it discreetly, as you all seem to have done, was the right thing to do. I can't imagine receiving emails telling me that I was wrong about what I ATE!!! Unbelievable!!!

How awesome your family gets that you want to be healthy. And I don't believe for one minute it is rude to not eat things that you find completely unhealthy. emoticon

Thumbs up to you and your family! Your right, you can't change everyone else but you can help yourself and your family. Sounds like your hubby was such a doll to notice and take action. Wouldn't it be nice to have an all healthy food party and invite the same people so they could see something different!
Good for You and Your Family!!

Good for you! Your husband came to your rescue. That was very thoughtful.

Our friends can become a huge stumbling block and I don't think they always have good intentions.

I have a friend that has lost a significant amount of weight and she tells me that she is amazed at the number of haters in her life. Jealousy comes in many forms and pops up when we least expect it.

It sounds to me that you and your family had a huge success yesterday. cheers to you!

The best you can do is learn to look past it now and again, and thoroughly enjoy the time you have together. If you're lucky enough to ever train them to help, let me know how you did it!
