Well, at least something good came out of week 5. Unfortunately, I gained weight. The two pounds I lost earlier this week, came back with a vengeance on weigh in day. I really need to exercise. This won't work for me without exercise.

I know what I didn't do. I didn't eat enough calories, not enough water yesterday. Not to mention bloating. Well this is still the start of week 6. I'm going to do something different this week. I'm going to eat only from the sparkpeople plan. That's tough because my schedule is so hectic. But, I need to accomplish this just for me.

So here goes. We'll see what the weigh in for week 7 brings.

I'm not giving up on this!

Missing Zumba

Can't wait till my knee gets better! I'm really missing Zumba. Maybe I'll do a modified version of it until I can do it like I used to.

I'm afraid of not making my goal in August. I'm going to work harder and stay on the lower end of my calories. Oh boy!!

It's time to read a motivational story.

We just purchased the Exhilaration! set... it was delivered about 3 weeks ago.

I still can't stay on my feet more than a few minutes, but my daughters have been doing about an hour of the "step by step" dvd maybe 3 or 4 times a week and they are loving it!

What I manage is done staying seated but still moving my feet and definitely moving my arms. I get excited doing it - love it - can't wait to build everything up enough to actually get on my feet for the whole thing! I'm finding even listening to the music can be very motivating for moving in any way. So even if you're not moving exactly to the steps/dances, any movement is better than none. :)

    I hope the modified version works for you until you're able to get back to the full program. Zumba sounds like so much fun. A few of the sisters here do it and I've been thinking of joining them.

    Modified version sounds like a great idea - it should let you get in some activity until you are ready for the full deal and help you toward that August goal! You might also consider adjusting the goal to fit with your current situation.

Feeling Better, 2 pounds down!

OK, so I took some pain killers/anti-inflammatory. Knee is much better. I was talking to one of my friends last night, he recommended weighing every day. I thought that was just crazy. I'll never lose weight if I do that. But he noted how the scale should be used as a motivational tool.

That probably works well for men!! We all know men lose weight faster and better than women! But I decided to weigh in early this week. Incredibly, 2 lbs down. It's probably water weight. I think the anti-inflammatory did the trick. I'll have to take some every day now!! LOL (jk)

    When I lose weight I tell myself when I post it that that is it. Once it's down it's down. I don't like changing it back up. This keeps me motivated to stay working to keep my weight where it is or really close. It's been working for me. I don't really have a set day for weighing in either. If it feels right early I do it. I kind of set Wed as the day, but I just can't always wait that long.

Crazy weekend, hurt my knee

I had such a busy weekend. But it was absolutely great!! I hurt my knee though. This will hurt my Zumba fun. I have to try other exercises that won't hurt my knee until it heals.

What should I do? Pilates? Only strength train? Please help!!

OK, so I'm on a roll right! I am exercising, trying to eat better and what happens on week 5. A weight gain of two pounds. OK. I've heard it before, "muscle weighs more than fat", "it's probably just water", "you'll lose it", "don't get discouraged".

I do feel sad about it. I know all of the above, but I want the scale to move in the other direction. The only silver lining is that I have cramps too. So that helps the thought process as to why I have this gain. I'll keep exercising and I need to eat more cleanly.

I like that phrase - "eating clean". emoticon I think I will employ that thinking now. I also am going to make another change for week 5. Instead of drinking coffee every morning I'm going to switch to green tea. I hesitate to take foods out of my regimen. I don't want to do eliminate carbs totally. I can't live with that long term. I also know I need to add weights. So I'm going to add weight training for week 5. Just a video at first cause I'm still working on time to get to the gym. Hopefully I can weight train 3 times this week. That's the goal.

We'll see what week 6 brings. I'm marching down to my August deadline of losing 20 pounds. At this rate, I don't think I'll make it! But I will try to make it. I don't want to get radical, but whatever suggestions anyone can give, it will be greatly appreciated.

    Keep up the work and the results will come. I agree you shouldn't take carbs out of your diet - they have too many benefits! But we certainly can eat *better* carbs and in the appropriate proportion (I need to work on that myself!!!).

The weight training videos sound like a great start. I SOOO need to settle into a weight training regimen, but it's sooo hard when cardio activities (running, biking, etc.) are my first love.

    My mum always insists that the scales are less important than the tape measure! I do look at my weight but it's the inches that I care about more.

I always feel let down when I gain a little when I know I have done everything right
but I am finally realizing the variables in our bodies for instance for the past 3 weeks
I have gone up on the scale when I should have gone down having kept to my plan
and this week when I was not quite so careful, I lost 3.8LBS go figure!!!
