Sticking with Spark People

Monday, September 14, 2009

I've been away since the birth of my new granddaughter and just happy today to be back and back on track. It is so easy to caught up in daily life and other activities and shine off tracking my food and exercise. I realized today that if I don't stick with it I'm going to fail and go back to being overweight and miserable. I'm so glad for Spark People and I am never ever going back!

Operation Beautiful

Friday, July 10, 2009

If you haven't checked the operation beautiful project out you should. What a great idea and I'm sure it will spread like wildfire. The idea is most of us suffer from more than just overeating and lack of exercise but also lack of self esteem and problems with our heads. So you leave little sticky notes on bathroom mirrors, gym scales, refrigerators, etc. that remind us that we are not defined by how we look or the numbers on the scale but what is inside. A friend of mine calls these positive affirmations and they were used by her therapist when she was in treatment for an eating disorder. Check out the website: www.operationbeautiful.com

I saw a link to this the other night. It sounds like a wonderfully uplifting and easy thing to do. It is basically a ramdp, act of kindness. Except this way you don't know who you affect when your kindness.

Motivation

Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Sometimes I have a hard time gettting motivated to loose weight. It's so easy to become complacent and feel okay where I'm at. The other day I did a BMI and it showed I am still in the overweight zone - what a motivator. According to the BMI indicater if I just lose 7 more pounds I will be in the "normal" zone. So I guess it pays to get creative when looking for motivation.

The good news is, at least you don't totally hate yourself! I think that losing weight because of poor self-image is a bad motivation anyway. Health motivation (like getting into the green BMI range) is much better for your attitude AND your goals.

I understand what you are saying. Being "ok" with myself usually happens when I have a cookie or something staring me in the face...lol...then I become so "ok" with myself that I eat 5 or 6 of them. UGH! The next day...I am not ok with myself.

WTG on getting motivated. You can do it! It is only 7 more pounds...it will be totally worth it.

Spark Friends

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Friends are so important to me and my weight loss journey. When I go to the gym with a friend the time goes by so fast that sometimes I don't even realize when it's time to leave. Walking with a friend is so enjoyable and motivating. I think all of us spark people should make a point to connect in groups and with buddies that share common goals or interests. If I don't hear from someone I try to send an email to make sure they're okay and I hope my buddies will do the same for me.

I think sending emails or text messages or posting to someone's spark page is definitely a motivator. There are so many stories that everyone can relate to and looking at after, before, and after pictures can be helpful as I struggle with my roller coaster weight number.

Plateaus

Monday, June 29, 2009

Since beginning Spark People I initially lost 3 lbs. Maybe I'm expecting too much but for the last 2 weeks the scale is stuck on the same number! I'm struggling with keeping my calories below the suggested amount of 1,600 so that 's probably part of it. Any suggestios would be greatly appreciated.
