Every time I took a deep breath, it smelled like vanilla extract; except when I ran by a pile of burning leaves.

And I found five dollars!

All in all a good jog today. Wish they could all be like this.

Great Start to September

August was a tough month for me. I wasnít eating the healthiest food, I was having a difficult time staying motivated to eat well. However I kept up with the gym. Weight loss was slow for the month.

Today, I returned from a long and refreshing weekend in the Smoky Mountains. I ate moderately well and was very active, easy to do in such a beautiful setting.

After unpacking at home, I went to the gym for some cardio.

It turns out that I've lost two more pounds since my last weigh-in. Thatís a grand total loss of 18 pounds! While I had originally wanted to lose 20 lbs by the beginning of August; Iím pleased that the scale keeps moving down.

As an added bonus, my hiking pants were very loose; it was such a great feeling considering in November I nearly replaced them for being too small!



Progress Report: Day 103

Today was the date for the first of my original mini goals. When I first joined SparkPeople on April 23, I wanted to lose 20 pounds by today, my 34th birthday.

I didnít make my target; instead Iíve lost 15 pounds.

Iím being very careful not to say ďonly 15 poundsĒ because that is still a huge accomplishment worthy of praise and celebration. However I canít help but feel a tiny bit disappointed.

Slow and stead, the SparkPeople way. So instead of dwelling on the numbers, Iíll adjust my new mini goal date, enjoy fitting into clothing I had once reserved for a thinner me, celebrate the past 103 fabulous days, and look forward to what the next 365 days will hold!

What now?

Today, after my weigh in, I was frustrated and disappointed to find that I've only dropped one pound. One pound since I last checked on July 12.

I'm eating much better; cooking at home all the time (last time I went out to eat was the 15th), 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day, and keeping up with at least eight glasses of water a day.

Maybe I need to step up the cardio. Maybe I need to get more sleep per night, currently 5 - 6 hours.

I don't want to use the "P" word just yet, it's too early for that!

What do I do now?

    Fully agree on the sleep point. I don't know much about this stuff, but I have heard that if you do NOT get enough sleep, you produce more stress hormone - that interferes with weight loss. Of course, there are a host of other factors which play into it all, but I do believe that sleep is a great foundation for success.

    Sleep is really important. I find when I slept 4-6 hrs (mu usual) the weight loss moves very slowly, but when I get 7-8 hrs, I seem to consistently lose better. I tend to not go by the scale, because it fluctuates so greatly. Eventually it trends downwards, but I feel better just going to measurements and how thing fit and how I feel.

    Getting more sleep would be another step in the right direction. We need 8 hours to function well.
Also, look for other clues besides the scale to see if you are on the right track. A big one for me was my clothes were fitting looser than before.
Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less space so the scale may not change but you are with more muscle.

    Keep at it - sometimes I don't drop weight for awhile as well and then it just seems to drop away some weeks.
