I was able to button my coat today!!

Friday, October 16, 2009

I know this sounds silly, but I am flying on a cloud today (and we have tons of rain clouds on Long Island today!) because I got real brave and took my new coat out of the closet and put it on. Holy Cow! The buttons closed!

Last year, I needed a new coat desperately. My sister and I went shopping together and nothing really looked good. The 18's fit but I looked very unattractive in them, they just made me look larger than I already was. The 16's looked better, but if I buttoned them, they were tight in the back and looked horrible. I swore I was going to lose 10 pounds so I could buy the 16. I left buying nothing.

For Christmas, my sister suprised me with that coat (the size 16) and, of course, I hadn't taken off ANY weight and it still didn't fit, but I told her it did. It got cold enough that I had to wear it, but I wouldn't button it, I'd just hold it closed. I even thought about moving the buttons over, but I got lazy and never did.

That was last year.

Now, I am a half pound shy of having lost 20 pounds, and it's cold out today. So, I put the coat on, took a deep breath for courage, buttoned the coat and turned sideways to look in the mirror. WOOOO HOOOOO!!! It fits!!!! AND, it doesn't embarass me to wear it outdoors!!!

I swear, nothing tastes so good as being able to reach in your closet, pull out anything hanging in it and having it fit!!!

I'm so motivated and this at a point in my diet journey that I have in the past been tired of doing it. I really truly feel that I'm going to make it this time thanks to the support at SparkPeople.

So today I thank all of you, my Spark Friends! For without your support and without my having read your blogs and message boards for inspiration, I know I would not have made this important change in my life. I have found that responding to other people's blogs and message boards helps support myself as well. When you offer advice to others, you sort of reinforce it in yourself as well.

This is the greatest website ever and....IT'S FREE! I can't believe that!!

Congratulations!!! I'm having a similar experience, except all my coats that fit last year are now too big and I have nothing to wear! (and since it SNOWED here in CT yesterday, a coat is kinda getting important!!) Have a great weekend and enjoy that coat!

Go on with your bad self!
I know that feeling well.
My reward to myself after losing the 100th pound was to go out and splurge ridiculously on designer clothes.
I had had to shop at the big & tall store for almost a decade of my life.

You can feel warm in more ways than one in that new coat. Enjoy it! And keep it up.

Congrats on that major success! You are so right. Thin/fit women already know that nothing tastes as good as looking great feels. My mom always says that :)

Anyway, I live on long island too and yeah what a major bummer the weather is today! it makes me want to do NOTHING ! BUT, since I had to come to work early today (I work and go to school at Stony Brook) I actually went to the gym and did 60min of cardio at 7:30 this morning before work! We are accomplished and moving towards our new selves!

A half pound weight loss never looked so good!!!!

Friday, October 09, 2009

This morning I weighed myself and saw I lost a 1/2 lb. Notice I did not say "ONLY" 1/2 a pound. I saw it go down a solid half pound and I was actually so happy! I worked hard this week, didn't go off my diet program and lost that 1/2 pound and was thrilled. This spoke mountains to me. It tells me that I've changed my entire outlook and therefore am establishing a new way of looking at my weight, at my diet and at my life. With this small event this morning, I know I've made a lifestyle change. No negative feelings, no "is that all??", only positive "YEY!! It's gone, the scale moved in the right direction!!!".

And, after all, have you ever seen a 1/2 pound of hamburger meat? It's quite a lump!! I'm thrilled. It made it 18 pounds total for me and I'm looking forward to breaking a number and getting into the 170's!!!

And you know, it's a good thing that I'm happy about a half pound weight loss because the closer we get to our goal weight, the slower it seems to come off because we have less to lose. I'm almost halfway to goal now so it's a good feeling to see it slowing down. That makes me somehow feel closer to goal! Does that make sense? It's hard to describe other than to say "It's all good!"

There's no stopping me now!! Join with me, celebrate every ounce you lose and feel good about yourself. It's a wonderful way to start the day.

You said it! I'm thrilled when the numbers on the scale go down, even if it's a little. Just because it says .50 or 1 pound doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a celebration...even if it's just a happy little jig in the bathroom or around the house.

I used to work in the operating room and have seen what human fat looks like. Even a quarter of a pound is a lot! I've actually seen 20 pounds of human fat and's gross.

Chicken fat is the closest resemblance to what human fat looks like. SO...if anyone tells you "oh, that's not much", just think about what I mentioned. emoticon

I have a wedding to go to next month and I have been stressing out the last 2 weeks over having to buy an outfit to wear. It's silly, but I don't feel as awful as I look. LOL. I feel ok but when I happen to see myself in a mirror, I'm appalled at what I actually look like!! So I've been dreading having to face the reality of trying on clothes in the store or shopping at home just to see that I really look "dumpy". I've been starting to lose sleep over it because it's in the back of my mind how I need to find an outfit by October 17th.

And then you know how it goes, the more you have to lose, the more you overeat!!! It's a vicious circle. But this morning, while not sleeping (!), I remembered that since losing these 10 pounds about 3 weeks ago (haven't lost anything for 3 weeks now because I'm not trying that much), I'm at the same weight I was when I went on a business conference 4 years ago. I had bought an evening dress for the conference and it was buried in the back of my closet. I dared to take it out and try it on and guess what???

I'd like my body to look a bit better in it than it does, but I don't look appalling in it so the first thing I did after trying it on was go find my old Weight Watchers work out dvd and I did a low impact circuit training for 30 minutes and LOVED it!!!! I'm back on track and I'm so happy and proud! What a relief!!!

I can't tell you how happy I feel right now and it's all thanks to the support I received from SparkPeople friends. I posted a message on one of the boards a week ago that said I didn't feel like doing it anymore and the responses were overwhelming. It kept me from binging while waiting to get back on track. And, the advice I received was amazing. Thanks to all!!!

Now, all I need is the shoes......
