New Blog... teaming up with my hubby

Wow... it has been a long time... i am once again getting back on the wagon.
My husband and I have a way of pushing etch other toward bad choices. So for 2011 we have pledged to join up to together and to build each other up instead of tearing each other down. We will be logging our food and exercise into our spark people accounts. Goals

I realized I never posted any real goals of what I want from this journey. So I have thought long and hard about this and so far this is what I got:

Weight Loss Goals:
• To get in the 200’s
• To get in the 100’s
• To lose 100 pounds by 8/1/2011
• Get my BMI out of the OBESE range
• Get my BMI in the healthy range
Exercise Goals:
• To run a whole lap at the track without stopping
• To be able to run an entire mile without stopping
• To be able to run a mile in less than 10 min
• To run in a 5K
• To run a ½ marathon: Preferably the “Train to end Stroke” in honor of my dad
Other Goals:
• To be able to sleep without snoring.
• To get rid of my double chin.
• To fit into my mini-goal dress (brown dress, size 20W).
• To fit into my high school graduation dress (red, size 18).
• To be able to shop at normal people stores like Target, Old Navy and not have to get “old lady” clothes.
• To be too small for Lane Bryant Clothes.

    Excellent goals! Take them one step at a time, and definitely reward yourself for progress. Don't delay gratification for too long, because it's easier to get discouraged that way.

    You have some clear goals. The next step is a bit trickier, but you need to write those short term goals and add in some rewards for yourself as well. Everyone gets paid at their work and that is what you deserve for this important work. Many people find the short term goals to be harder to write, you can find a bit of help on the section on your spark points page labeled "other goals." It can help you to see several medium range and short term goals and that might make this job easier.

confession...

I have a confession to make…. my house is messy!!
Between my two jobs which keep me away from home for 60 hours a week and going to school there is little time in my life to keep my house clean. I have a great husband and three step daughters who sometimes clean but a majority of the cleaning is left up to me. In order to stay on top of all the cleaning I would have to run the dishwasher at least twice a day and do at least 10 loads of laundry a week!! I just cannot keep up with it all….
Then my sister-in-law unexpectedly stayed with us for a few days this week and she spent a whole day cleaning our house!! It was awesome!! Let me tell you that by having a clean house, it totally changed my mood! I was no longer depressed walking into the house, the house was not only clean but it was also a happy place!! Then Saturday I did a bunch a cooking, I made breakfast, lunch, a huge dinner and two batches of healthy muffins! With the house being messy I had been putting off cooking because I knew it meant cleaning before I could cook and then I would also need to clean afterward… NO THANK YOU!!
But when the house was clean I left me free to do other things. It was nice!! Plus I even cleaned up after all my cooking!! I am feeling pretty good about this!! My husband even did the dishes from dinner last night!

    I also have a messy house--I cannot stand up long enough to do much and getting help out of the teenagers here is quite a deal. They are all on the run constantly and I am left behind trying to get things done. Maybe someday, I will have a nice clean house, but it isn'tmy time right now. Life goes on anyway. Don't sweat the small stuff.

    Your house looks GREAT! True confession time here: I have Merry Maids come every other week. My mom and dad gave it to us as a Christmas gift a few years ago so I had them come once a month so the gift certificate would last awhile. Then I decided that I work hard and gave up some other things in order to afford having them continue. It's been the best thing I ever did for myself! I feel guilty having them come during the summer since I'm off but not guilty enough to cancel them...lol! Maybe you should bribe your SIL to come more often!

    My house is a mess and I have no excuse other than I haven't been home, and when I have I've been alone with my three girls under three. I hate cleaning, and I have a horrible time getting caught up. Yay for you and hubby keeping yours that way. I hope you find it easier to maintain!!

Foxes and good things

Hello everyone!!
It has been awhile since I have posted a blog. In my previous blog I talked about how we are really low of cash and that our food budget was VERY LOW. Well here we are in the last week of the month and we are doing ok!! Honestly we got a great big box of food from our church and two other boxes of food from the local food bank plus we were blessed with about $40 that we added to our tiny food budget and got a total of $125 worth of food to last a month and so far it has!! We know that God is providing and we are blessed to have great friends that invite us over for lunches and dinners. We have even had a friend stop by with pizza for our whole family! Unfortunately this has also meant that eating healthy has been on the backburner as we are eating a lot of mac n’ cheese, top ramen, spaghetti and other cheap meals.
Yesterday the President signed the jobless benefits back into motion which hopefully means my husband will again begin getting unemployment… WooHoo!
On another good note we found about that we were approved for this program through Kaiser called the Medical Financial Assistance Program which pays all or part of out of pocket charges at Kaiser such as co-pays, prescription costs and emergency room visits. I applied at the end of June and we just found out we were approved!! So for the next six months we don’t owe any co-pays or prescription costs!! This will save us about $100 a month!!
I feel like I have aged 10 years within the last three years!! I have gained over 60 pounds, got married and became a stepmother to a teenager! Sometimes it saddens me to read on facebook about old friends from high school or college who are still able to go on trips spontaneously and do other fun thing. However I love my husband and my girls and I wouldn’t trade them for anything!!
Below is one of the first full length photo’s of me taken in about a year or so!! I can’t believe it! I am promising myself that this is the end of this run I need to make an immediate u-turn! This will be my before picture because this unhealthy, overweight person is not who I am on the inside.



Today was the first day in a week or so that I did not wake up sick to my stomach!! I have had some stomach virus that had lingered way beyond its welcome. Now that I am starting to feel better I am hoping to once again start walking/running in the morning. I really enjoyed doing that as it not only energized me for the day but it was nice to have that alone time. Just me, the track and some good music!

P.S. I am now the not so proud “owner” of a grey fox! One has decided to make itself home under our deck in the backyard. We called animal control and they said they would trap it and then kill it… I don’t want that especially since they also told me that grey foxes are very docile and will not harm my dog… so looks like we have a new pet…

    The program through Kaiser sounds fantastic! So glad you were approved! Hang in there. Sounds like you've been going through a lot of negatives, but it's great that you're still able to recognize the positives, too!

And about the fox... my dad and his sister actually had a red fox as a pet when they were kids (in the 40's/50's). His father found him as a pup. His name was Schmoe. emoticon

    Keep your chin up, I am right there too, eating mac and cheese (when I have the milk for it) and lots of ramen and spaghetti, the end is in site though, things will get better. Good to hear you are feeling better too. Being sick is the pits!

    Glad you made it through the month with enough food! Things will turn around for you! You have a great attitude about it all. Don't worry about your facebook friends...they're probably only posting the good things and have plenty of their own problems. Definitely start walking again because you'll start feeling a lot better! Good luck on your journey!

I am starting the POOR PEOPLES DIET!

The past few weeks have been in a battle between Good and Bad at our house!

Good: I have been exercising more and have even started jogging! It really helps that we moved in January and our backyard looks into the local Junior High track area! It is so easy to go out there and walk/run the track. The only downfall is that on some nights a large group on Men meat there to play soccer. I am really self conscious and don't want to jog in front of them.

Bad: I injured my neck and it put me out of the game for awhile. So starting this next week I am going to get back in the habit of walk/jogging 3X a week and doing weights 3X a week!

Good: my hubby (GOLF4LIFE1) and I have been eating healthy! It has been fun trying new recipes using spark people! We are found some really delicious foods that we never would have tried. We found out that we like hummus, black beans, brown rice, pork chops, frittata's!! All of these we had never made at home! Things were going really well! So far I had lost 4.6 pounds and my hubby had lost over 5 pounds! We were feeling very motivated to continue this journey. I even adjusted my goals! Before I just wanted to get under 200lbs but now my goal is to try and get in the "healthy" category of my BMI!

Bad: We have been having some serious money issues! My husband has been out of work since 2008! We have been blessed to have received unemployment consistently¡K until now! We have two issues the first is that the senate stopped all further extensions on unemployment which means no more money. The second is that my husband's doctor recently said that my husband would need to do on disability because he injured his back really bad. So we were just thinking we would switch from unemployment to State disability. WRONG! He is not eligible for disability because he was not working! So now we are stuck. Although I am totally blessed with an amazing full time job that is stable and pays well and I ALSO have a part-time job that I LOVE it is still not enough to last the whole month! After doing our budget it left us with NO extra money after the bills.So we had to make a hard choice, what bills will we not pay so that we can have food. How do you choose between Electricity and food? Or rent and food? Or gas to get to work and food? Even if we don't pay one of these bills it will still not leave us with enough food for the month! Our normal food bill each month is about $400. (we have three growing girls to feed also). Someone suggested that I contact Social Services to see if we are eligible for food stamps however we are just over the income limit!

Good: In the past it has been bad and we have just relied on food such as Top Ramen, Hamburger Helper and stuff like that. But normal this lasts for a few days not all Month! So I humbled myself and spoke with the church that I am member at! It was so amazing! The blessed me with a HUGE box filled with food and also helped with one of our bills!! Praise God! It was so hard to ask for help but I feel so loved and thankful for my church family that they were willing to help and that they were SO generous!

    I am almost in the same boat. My husband works 60 hour weeks and he is on salary so he doesn't receive over time. He gets paid little because it is a small business. We do receive EBT but it still isn't enough. All of our bills have gone up and the insurance has gone up. We were just discussing what things to cut. But everything we have is necessary. We need the internet because not only does he work 60 hour weeks but we both also have online businesses. Both of which are really sloowwww. So we have to work on that. We have to feed our family of four( 2 girls one is 2 the other is 6). We only have $250 a month to feed all of us and cannot really afford the non food items we need as well like T.P. etc. so it keeps eating at the bank account. I cannot work because I have to be home to care for the girls and we cannot afford a sitter an we know no one where we live. This blows. I wish you the best of luck! God bless!

    I understand where you are coming from as I was in the same situation when my kids were young. I am happy to hear that you asked for help. I never could admit that I didn't have enough money to cover everything and that just made things worse.
There are a lot of sites out there with good menus for saving on food. I will look for you and send you some so you will be able to keep up with all your goals.
I will keep your family in my prayers.
