S'mores Anyone.

Friday, September 23, 2011

I know I could post this on SparkRecipe, but I thought instead I would do it here. It's simple really and was easy to work into one of my snacks. For some reason, now that it is fall I have a certain nostalgia about certain foods, like Hot Chocolate and S'mores. Yet, I am also aware of how easy things like this can get out of control with calories. Add too many marshmallows you are looking at hundreds of high sugar calories, but as always moderation is the key.

So here are a few tips that made my s'mores snack possible:

1: Hershey's Dark Chocolate 1/4 of a bar
2: Single graham cracker broken in half
3: 1/8 cup of marshmallows (It doesn't take a lot)
4: Kitchen Torch

First things first, I place the chocolate on the graham cracker and melt the chocolate till just warm with the torch. Immediately after I smush the marshmallows into the chocolate and then torch them like I would at a camp fire. Viola, place the top graham cracker piece and you are done. Drink a nice cup of mint tea with it and there is a semi-guilt free indulgence.

For a little adjustment, instead of melting dark chocolate, you could use Nutella. A little nutella goes a long way with its nice nutty flavor.

So far, by managing everything within calorie range as much as possible I am still losing weight. I finally went below the 160 mark. I think I am going to celebrate with a run.

Cheers Everyone! Have the happiest of Fridays!

Yum!! Those sound deee-lish! I also love having my sweet treats with mint or jasmine tea - the bitterness off-setting the sweetness is so yummy. In South Africa, smores are not something we even know about - I mean, you hear about them in the occasional movie or whatever, but I have never tried them (we just roast marshmallows around campfires). I am definitely going to now though! MMM!

The Kitchen Dancer Just Can't Stop

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Yesterday I encountered a wonderful problem: I just couldn't stop dancing. Just one more song I would tell myself. The thing is I was kind of slow on the start. Yesterday I trained for the 5K and I didn't want to but, I knew I should get it over with. However, I had 5 minutes left to fulfill my goal of 30 minutes and so I decided, of course, to top the day of with a quick dance. A Modern Ballet from to one of Chopin's pieces. Then the next song came on and of course I just couldn't help myself.

What I am wondering is: what type of fitness gets you in the zone? Walking until you realize you've walked miles and have to turn back and go home. Biking like your in a race just because you like to go faster and faster. So, what is it? emoticon

Walking is one of those things I can forget about too. I just keep going and then it could be really far before I realize I need to turn around. :)

You said it, for me, I love walking and especially when I discover how far I have really gone when I'm headed towards home :)

Day Off

Friday, September 16, 2011

Yesterday was an impromptu day-off from exercising. I only had a scheduled day of cardio but, something about the day. It frustrates me only in that I cannot say I have danced everyday sinse I started, which had been true up until yesterday. That's one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is at least I have danced everyday for two weeks straight.

Today is an official work-out day that should help me keep on track. It is going to be a busy day.

Good luck to everyone else with your workout goals.

I think the Spark idea is your second take - Check out that dancing streak! That's awesome!! I was reading The Spark the other day, and he was saying that when you do have a day that frustrates you and you feel a moment off track, shake it off and challenge yourself to beat your former self. (I think he said it a little better) So, Today Steph challenges Former Steph to a dance challenge. Can you take it?

And, some times we just need a break. I am all about the momentum, and then I'll get a stumble and decide that I'm going to watch TV most of the day. I tell myself I'm recharging for the next day. Maybe not the perfect way - but it's a positive way. Don't get frustrated!

Have a good workout day today! (ps, I'm down at spot 37, AARRRGH emoticon)

My hormones ate my calories!

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Time to blame the hormones. For the last couple of days I have been tired. I consider the possibility that I have overworked myself but, really there is nothing to suggest I have. My calories have been in range all week, as well as my exercise. So what's the deal.

Then yesterday I took a nap and woke up craving a nice carb filled snack. I haven't been skimping on balanced meals so, I realized it must time that the planets are aligning for me. The moon hangs just right in the sky to thwart all my good effort. It wasn't me with that Scone, it was my hormones.

I woke up today and decided I am grounding my hormones before they go on a rampage and create havoc in my house. They will eat what I say they are going to eat, good carbs like Wasa bread. These are the rules of my house and they are going to tow the line.

Koffeenut - don't you know it. It is like the effect of a full moon on people. Have you ever noticed how irritable people are on a full moon.

Bookweave - Ha! Your comment plays well with my obsessive need to dance. Perfect. And I think I really would like to learn how to tap dance.

Time to tap dance on the hormones and get them in line with your plans not theirs.

Oh, my - I TOTALLY relate to this! I hate having to check the calendar to see why I'm suddenly eating like a crazy person!

Thanks. I feel on track today. I think I should also take a multi-vitamin and make sure I am getting enough nutrients. Sometimes that helps.

Honestly, yesterday I stayed within my calorie range but, that one scone threw off my fat intake, which was slightly higher than it should be, so I can't complain.

Darn hormones, they are giving me hell. Time to convert them heavenward.

Cheers, thanks everyone for your comments!

I need to do the same thing - my last two days have been awful! I have learned that I can not have snack food (like chex mix) or chocolate (like the bars my son is selling) in the house...I do not have the self control yet.

All The Beautiful Sparkpeople

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

There is always something we can find about ourself that we do not like but, often we are the only ones to see it. Here on Sparkpeople I have seen some very beautiful people that are like me, trying to get their weight in control for various reasons, like health.

FYI: Just remember, you are already beautiful. Losing weight means you may gain a different type of beauty, for sure, but you are already beautiful. You neither gain or lose that, it is already there.

Stay Beautiful! Hugs from me! emoticon
