I gotta be honest. On Monday I wrote a blog about how my Phase I results were disappointing but that I wasn't giving up. Well that was a load of crap! I never followed through with any program or plan like this one. I had only missed 1 workout - well, before today, that is - the last strength video on week 1 because I had to rest before a half marathon I was doing on Sunday and the Saturday cardio workout, but I more than made up for it by running for over 2 hours on Sunday during the marathon.
This morning I woke up and stayed in bed a little, then got dressed and went to the living room, where I normally do my workouts, but instead of putting in the dvd, I layed down on the couch and watched the news. Then tonight I came home and was too tired to exercise. To be honest, I'm not sure this program's working.
Well, let me start from the beginning. I've struggled with getting the weight off for almost 4 years - when my youngest son was born. But I've been through phases off and on - being good, then not so much, even running two half marathons during this time. Then I decided to finally try one of these 90 day programs, and after much research between P90X, Insanity and Jillian Michaels, I decided to do JM. It seemed to be the easiest to follow - only 30 minutes each day, and I'm also a big fan having bought many of her dvd's.
The first week of the program I saw an almost 3 pound loss. OMG! Finally! I am getting somewhere! But then, only 1/2 pound the second week, another 1/2 pound the third, then a gain the fourth week that I attributed to TOM. But still kept on and even scheduled an appointment with an endocrinologist to see if there are any hormonal imbalances with me. I have a blotchy patch of skin in my forehead that I've had since pregnancy. I remember hearing in one of Jillian's podcasts that she had something similar and was never pregnant, so I decided to make an appointment. Doctor said there's nothing apparently wrong but ordered lots of blood work to check for thyroid and a bunch of other stuff. I'll have the blood work done on Saturday morning. He said it should take 1-2 weeks for results.
Anyway, just wanted to vent. I'll probably keep going, although today, I'll take a break. I'll do workout 5 tomorrow morning, then 6 on Saturday along with 30 minutes of cardio.
My husband said a friend from work offered to let him borrow the Insanity program. God knows I don't want to spend another $150 for another program. Maybe I'll give that a try!

So last week was the last one of Phase I. The results are disappointing, though. I usually weigh myself on Mondays and today stepped on the scale to reveal an almost 3 lb gain. Whaaaat? Yeah, gain as in MORE weight than last week. I'm going to assume it's water retention as it's that time of the month and won't count this current weight in the stats. I don't think it was a true gain.
I also said I would measure myself after the phase was over and I did last night. Here are those results:
Beginning: Phase I
Weight: 157.2 153.6
Waist: 37.5" 36"
Belly: 39" 37.5"
Thigh: 24" 23.5"
Arm: 13" 12.5"
Calf: 14.75" 14"
Today I start Half Marathon training again and am hoping that the added runs 4 times per week will result in some weight loss.

Completed another week. I don't think I've ever lasted this long on a program without skipping a workout! Just skipped the very last one on week 1 because I was resting for my half marathon. I think I more than made up for it!
I'm not sure if I'm feeling stronger, like Jillian suggests I should be on the videos. I think this week was easier than last week but not sure if it's because I'm stronger or if I'm just familiar with the workout. Who knows!
I'm also not losing much weight. First week I lost 2.5 lbs, but second and third week only 1/2 lb each week. Total to date less than 4 lbs. I think a big part of it is the nutrition. Week 1 I totally had my A game. Weeks 2 & 3 not so much. There was Mother's Day, after all! lol I will measure myself on Sunday, though. I did before beginning the program and haven't since. Perhaps I'll be able to report lots of lost inches, although I'm really not seeing it in my clothes. We'll see!
Today I got a sandwich at Subway then went to the grocery store and got lots of stuff for salad plus grilled chicken and tuna. I think I'll alternate between the two. I have a refrigerator at work and keep the stuff there. Then I don't have to prepare the night before. Also takes a lot of the guesswork from deciding what to order for lunch, not to mention I spent about $20 for everything. That's about $5 per day. Heck of a lot cheaper than most meals out there.
I'm also thinking about signing up for another half marathon. A local one on September 23rd. That gives me 18 weeks to train, and since the mileage in the beginning's pretty low, it'll work great for extra cardio during the program. I'll run on the same days as the JMBR workouts and do some other form of cardio on Wednesdays and Saturdays, maybe even the Cardio DVD's with the program.

Week 2 was OK. Nothing extraordinary to report, really. The workouts were kind of easy. I did the workouts 1 & 2 on their regularly scheduled days, and on the cardio days did my own thing instead of the cardio DVD. 35 minutes treadmill running on Wednesday and on Saturday 20 minutes on the elliptical and a 10 minute mile on the treadmill while the kids were at swim class. My gym opened up another spin class that coincides with the kids swim class, but the spin class is 55 minutes long while kids swim is 30 minutes! I think it would be incredibly rude for me to leave mid class to take care of my little guy while class is ongoing! Bummer!
Food kinda sucked, which showed on the scale. I only 0.4 lbs. I'll take it! A loss is a loss! Saturday went with the kids to a newly opened Dinosaur BBQ! While everything was delicious, I didn't dare find out how many calories I consumed! Surely too many. We had a late lunch - around 3:00 pm. I didn't eat dinner because I was still full! lol Then on Sunday was BBQ day again this time at my sisters for Mother's Day. While I ate a little bbq chicken and salad, I did indulge a bit too much on some Teramisu and mango ice cream!
Game plan this week is to follow Jillian's kickstart diet a little. I'm going to try and steer clear of the grains and carbs, but the dairy and fruit is too extreme, I think. I'm going to try and stick to a 1200-1500 calorie plan.
