Polka Celebration

Friday, July 20, 2012

Our family attended a local polka celebration last night. I'm proud of my self control... I ate healthy. My supper consisted of a cabbage roll, a bottle of water, and (drum roll, please!) I only ate a few of my son's french fries and a bit of his hot dog! "Helping" my picky eater with his meals has been my weakness lately.

I was stressed out on Monday and exceeded my calorie limit. Stuff happens. emoticon

Protein has been the focus this week. Sometimes it is tricky to reach 20%.

Here are my calorie counts for the week (2,000 calories/day):

Sat., July 14 1,994
Sun., July 15 1,921
Mon., July 16 2,453
Tues., July 17 2,089
Wed., July 18 1,983
Thurs., July 19 1,985
Fri., July 20 1,940

Have a good weekend, all! emoticon

Hey, the polka dancing probably got rid of those fries and bit of hot dog! emoticon emoticon

I won a polka contest once. I was drunk as heck at the time... and now that I'm sober, I have no idea how to polka.

Packing in the Protein

Saturday, July 14, 2012

I've begun adding more protein to my diet. emoticon It is more difficult to reach my limit of 2000 calories per day this way. That is a good problem to have. I just need to be sure I continue to consume enough carbs and fat, as well. Drawing from experience, my fiber intake needs to remain high or the extra protein could cause my 'system' to slow down. We'll see how it goes. emoticon

What are your favorite protein dense foods? I like fat free cottage cheese, chicken breast, low fat roast beef lunch meat, and eggs.

Here are my daily calories for this week:

Sat., July 7 1,932
Sun., July 8 2,012
Mon., July 9 1,958
Tues., July 10 3,087 -->I ate lunch at a restaurant and splurged on a dessert.
Wed., July 11 1,607
Thurs., July 12 1,642
Fri., July 13 1,949

Have a good weekend. emoticon

Man! It was another hot week. But we found ways to stay active. It could get old soon. What do you do to stay active while staying out of the heat?

My limit is 2000 calorie/day. I did pretty well this week:

Sun., July 1 1,837
Mon., July 2 2,037
Tues., July 3 1,998
Wed., July 4 1,727
Thurs., July 5 1,760
Fri., July 6 1,963

Please, share your steamy weather activities with me. emoticon

I stay INDOORS for most of my workouts cuz I'm a heat wimp and I burn, even with sunscreen. I use the gym for classes, cardio, and pool workouts. I also have a plethora of exercise/dance DVDs and assorted home equipment (like medicine balls, stability ball, and exercise bands).

Fantastic! Wish I had done so well, but I let the weekend and hot weather get to me. Most of my exercising was in my blessedly cool basement, where we have a pretty good gym area set up. Else, I had yoga class and strength training, both at indoor studios.

My diet guidelines

Thursday, July 05, 2012

My doctor suggested a 2000 calorie diet for maintaining my weight.

I've set my daily carbs at 225-325 grams/day, protein at 50-175 grams/day, and fat at 44-78 grams/day.

If any of this sounds incorrect to you (carb, protein and fat grams), let me know please. I will double-check with my doctor next time I see him.

Thank you emoticon

Thanks to everyone's help (including Coach Denise) my new guidelines are:

2000 calories/day
Carbs 236-325 grams
protein 60-175 grams
fat 47-77 grams

If anyone still sees any discrepancies, let me know. emoticon

50 grams of protein sounds a bit low for 2000 calories?

Report Inappropriate Comment
SLENDERELLA61 7/6/2012 9:35AM

Let's see. Carbs and protein are 4 calories per gram. Fat is 9 calories per gram. So I calculated your minimum calorie intake as carbs = 900 + protein = 200 + fat = 396 for a total minimum of 1496. You can now calculate the maxs and make sure you've go the range right. Then check. You probably want 50% of calories to come from carbs, 30% from protein, and 20% from fat. However, checking with your doctor or RD is best!

Best wishes for a joyous journey to health and fitness!! -Marsha
