Standing up

Today my friends and I went to Ukraine East in the Village. I went to menu pages and decided that considering my commitment to weight loss, I would have scallops. Well what in the world you will say am I going to a Ukrainian restaurant for and ordering scallops.
Perogis with sour cream or potato pancakes or . . . . l considered my options and stuck by my decision when I got there. The scallops were really bad. I had small tastes of the goulash and the pancake and the perogi and said no to second tastes.
The conversations were lively and I enjoyed myself. I did not eat fried food or food in heavy sauce.
I am building a way for myself to eat even when it seems unreasonable.
Building a habit or way of standing up to myself and for myself is worth more than the low calories in that meal.

Portion Control is working

PC for me is a matter of being very alert and to measure. It is easy for me to say.."Oh that's a half cup, when it's actually more than a cup. Also, I have been known to argue.. oh what's one Hagen Das pop? It's not the pop actually, but sugar, for me, starts a craving.

I'm losing weight as I change my perspective on my food. This is not a diet but it's "This is how I eat"
Funny that when someone asks about our pet's diet, we know immediately that they want to know what the pet eats; it has nothing to do with being "on a diet".

So my diet is made up of vegetables and again vegetables, fruits, grains and some protein.
As I let the sugary processed foods out the door, I feel better. I hope to have fewer headaches as well.
Tomorrow will be Day Ten of my return to SparkPeople.

    I know - that 1/2 cup almost always is almost a cup when I try to eye-measure it, so I'm still using a measuring cup for my cereal. I trust my eye for a cup though...maybe I shouldn't. I'm with you on the perspective too. I've been eating more fruits, veggies & whole grains for a few years. It's natural to me now. Just have to still watch the portions. :) emoticon

    Hello, my dear! So wonderful to see you back!! I think you will see and feel wonderful results! And you're right - it is about changing your perspective, mindset, etc! I always try yo remind myself that although I like to enjoy my food, it really is fuel for my body and I need to fuel it with the best quality I can manage!

Day Four PC = Portion Control

Now comes the challenge. Visiting my son for the weekend. Few veggies in the meal plans there. Lots of cookies in the cupboards.
Shop for yourself my dear and keep away from the treats. They're not for you. Poor form to eat the children's cookies!
Joined WW yesterday. Their new program has free online for Lifetime members. I'm Lifetime but I weighed in with yoga pants and blue jeans so I was over by 3 lbs. Next week I'll wear something lighter., but hopefully I'll lose 2 lbs without changing my clothes.
I need beginner's mind. Read the materials. Track, drink water and PC = Portion Control. Also the peace symbol on my plate. Two thirds veggies one third grain and protein.
Today's plan
B Cereal and berries and walnuts
Lentil Chili and sour cream and green beans
dinner... not sure
Meeting trainer at gym second meeting of the 3 purchased
Driving to country and watching granddaughters play basketball and going to a swim meet on Saturday. Maybe driving V to ski.
Away from gym and away from city walking parks. Need to find a fun way to get cardio and strength exercises in while away from home.

Day Three

Thursday, January 05, 2012

Day two was not cookie-free. Good company with Italian speakers. I spoke very little and of course I spent hours later thinking of interesting things I could have said. Ah well. More commitment is needed to learn a language.
So too in weight loss and fitness.

Thursday's Plan
Time for prayer
walk with Chelsea
breakfast cereal and fruit and coffee
Yoga 90 minute class
lunch: yogurt and Naked granola
Rejoin Weight Watchers meeting at Ansonia
an hour at the gym to learn how to use the machines properly
pu Quinlan's book at library
Movie: Colin Firth's Soldier Tinker ...
dinner: Lentil chili and Kale
a meetup to play Tombola
On paper this seems like a diverse day. Let's see if it's interesting enough to encourage me not to eat more than I need or divert my boredom with goodies.

Day two

I did eat soup for dinner last night Tuesday, January 3, however I also ate Nabisco saltine crackers with butter while watching Biggest Loser. If ever there was an excellent example of irony.

I need to remind myself that butter and chocolate and cookies are to me trigger foods. I need to understand that there is a habit involved in this as well. Not an addiction. some people are struggling with heroine , nicotine or alcohol. Those are real addictions. This food attraction and habit should be manageable. I need to establish a connection with my child. She ... young Christine... loved sweet treats, but she didn't indulge beyond reason. Grown up Christine needs to leave the sweet treats for another day.
Today's plan WEDNESDAY
breakfast of hot cereal walnuts strawberries and blueberries
walk dog
Splash class
gym workout with friend to replicate what trainer did with us yesterday That plan fell through. But I did a SP Jumpstart 9 minute video.
lunch chicken and kale and cranberry juice : forgot the juice added avacado.
Italian meetup to practice conversation.
Paella at the meetup. Bringing Martinelli sparkling cider.
; remember Christine do not have even one piece of cheese! Not today.
Made plans for Thursday a 4 o clock movie Colin Firth.. love him... with pizza before hand. Let's see if my friend will agree to pass on pizza.
