1.4 lbs this week

Saturday, October 26, 2013

I think that's pretty good, considering I only did half the exercise I normally do. It was just a crazy busy week.
So I'm just over 15 pounds down from when I started losing weight early last month! Yay:)
Here's to a great next week for all of us!

Nickel Allergy Support Team started today! :)

Sunday, October 20, 2013

The highlight of the day for me was having a new team started for those with a nickel allergy. There wasn't one before. I'm one of the team leaders. Although... I can't seem to locate OURS when I try to find one now...but here is a link to it, in case you know of anyone who could use some support with that allergy.

Good luck with the new team! How great it will be to be able to meet with other people suffering with the same issues. I hope this will bring some clarity, sharing, and some unity for you! emoticon

Are you okay as long as you don't contact objects with nickel in them? It isn't in food, is it?

One Fourth of the Way There!

Saturday, October 19, 2013

It's been about five weeks since I got determined that I would lose the weight and keep it off this time.
I've lost just over 1/4 of the weight I need to make my doctor happy already.
I've found a food and exercise plan that works well for me.
I've discovered what has been causing the skin problems I've had over a year, and they're bettering as I deduct what I can eat and can't. I break out again when I eat something to test it, so far, but I'll get there.
I'm actually kind of thankful for the huge amount of allergies, in a way, because I have such physical consequences if I eat the old way, that I believe I don't have much of a desire at all to ever gain the weight back again through eating wrong. Who wants to deal with sores on their skin? I've scars enough already, and that's not pretty, but especially the sores on my arms, and often upper chest/neck area - not pleasant for others to see. They are clearing up. I'm soooo glad. I'm grateful to know there is the ability to get rid of them, and perhaps lessen outbreaks big time. That's a huge blessing to me.
So I will rejoice in it all!

Hiking, hiking, and more hiking (and a couple pics) :)

Sunday, October 13, 2013

Wow, what a full day! I made some banana bread and some zucchini bread this morning (wearing gloves so the wheat wouldn't touch my skin), and my daughter and her husband were thrilled to have some (and get sent home with some later). The one loves the one kind and the other loves the other kind. I still have plenty for my hubby's lunches too. :)
Then said daughter and SIL came and took me for a hike. My sweet daughter gave me her camera, saying she is fine with just using her cell phone. She knew we didn't have a camera new enough to work with our computers anymore. I did take pictures on that hike, but when we went to download them to the computer, I did it wrong and lost them all after deleting them from the camera and not actually having them on the computer. We got a bit lost on that hike, but that's okay. It was a very nice long walk. The temperature was perfect.
Then we went to my house where they had some of the aforementioned bread for the first time today. We walked the dogs, and then hubby came home and we all went to see a waterfall he's always wanted to see. Turned out there was a lot more walking we could do, and they said another waterfall. However, when we got there, there was no second waterfall. Must be only in the spring. Here is a picture near there that looked fairly nice though. I'm wearing my size 12 jeans. I'm able to fit into two faded glory 12s now too. yay. I still have other 12s I want to fit better into yet.

We did a lot of hill climbing and dealt with tree roots, stones, rocks, mud (for some reason), and leaves covering water, but it was a great workout. It was a long walk too, and more strenuous than the first walk. On the way back I had hubby take a picture of me so you could see part of the waterfall. You might be able to see some sores on my arm from gluten and nickel yet, but they were feeling better earlier- less itchy. Tonight they are a bit itchy. I think I know what I ate that did it.
So I burned somewhere toward 1600 calories today (from what I was told, but I wouldn't be surprised if I burned more than that!). Therefore, instead of the calorie amount I was to do for the day, being my reward day with the carb cycling plan I'm on, I went with the higher calorie number Spark People said I should have -especially since I really felt a need for that much food after that much calorie burning!
That was a lot of lower body workout today. I had not even originally expected to exercise at all today, lol. I'm glad I did though. It was really nice to do that with family.
Tomorrow I would like to concentrate more on the upper body. :)

All in a day/weekend

Saturday, October 12, 2013

I had planned to work on paring down things in the house today but my parents decided we needed to go shopping with them. On the way there hubby got himself some food at Burger King. I had eaten on my three hour schedule already, and can't eat much of anything there anyway due to gluten and nickel and other allergies. I told myself I can remember the flavors and enjoy it that way-just the memory, being grateful for that.
We ended up getting Christmas gifts (Yeah, can you beleive it?) for a couple kids in the family- and I got a birthday gift for my neice. As we were leaving the first mall, I realized it had been three hours since I'd last eaten, so the guys went and got me a Subway salad (I should have had them get me an apple from there too), while my mom and I shopped at the store we got the kids' gifts at. Great sale too.
Then we went to a bigger mall, where mom decided she didn't want to look any longer, that she'd just send my neice money for her birthday. She also decided to get some Auntie Anne pretzels. She got some for my dad and my husband and herself. She knew I couldn't eat them (again-gluten/nickel allergies I just recently found out I had).
We went and got something we had needed, and found it was both on sale and we got an extra 20% off. Pretty nice. :)
Hubby and I got a drink each (3 dollars for each drink- crazy), and we all had those things in the food court. I was remembering what the pretzel tastes like (I've only ever had about an inch or so piece of one), but again, I can't have wheat, so that's that. I had a moment or more where I wanted to feel sorry for myself, but I had already eaten something, wasn't hungry, or really interested in it anyway, and especially since it would make me break out and itch, so I could be content in having them enjoy it.
We walked the dogs after the sun went down (due to having to watch the movie as soon as we got home, because we didn't know how long it was and he was supposed to go to his friend's), and at one point I suddenly slid with my left foot, to the right real fast. My body balanced itself nicely (kinda wonder if I had some heavenly help there!) and I did not fall. I am feeling like my back isn't quite right now, but I probably need only stretch it.
I had planned to try and start a list of foods high in nickel and foods low in nickel this evening, so I can get trying to figure out what I can eat so that I stop being so itchy and these break outs can totally heal, but plans got changed (hubby didn't go to his friend's after all, and he wanted to watch another movie).
Now I have some family coming over tomorrow too, so, lol, I will focus on enjoying them and when I get to it all, I get to it. :)
I did ask hubby if we could possibly take all the books and papers off some shelves before he heads back to work Tuesday- and go through what we wanted to keep and make plans to get rid of the rest. He actually sounded like he would do that with me. YAY
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend thoroughly.

I can relate to the frustration of having food allergies...my 17yo daughter is recently dx'd with gluten & soy allergies..it's been a very trying experience to say the least!!

Wonderful job resisting all those foods! Congratulations! Now that you know the cause of the itchiness, making a list of foods you can and can't have is a great idea.
