Today I made wild grape jelly (pics) and skillet granola

Hubby helped me get some much higher up wild grapes last evening, so I was busy trying to get all those little grapes plucked.

Then I cooked them, one batch at a time, rigged up a way for them to drip from cheese cloth into a pan and got some jelly made! Only one jar did not seal, and so hubby can start using that one right away in his sandwiches for work. I did taste a little bit and it was quite good. :)

Oh yes, and my fingernails are still stained by grapes.
The granola that I made for myself today was from a friend's recipe. She uses 2 tbsp. butter, 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds, a cup of oatmeal, 1/2-1 tbsp. sunflower seeds, 2 Tbsp chopped Walnuts, 1/4 c. honey, and anything else you want such as coconut or whatever. She browns the sesame seeds in a skillet, and melts the butter next, adds in everything else and stirs for a minute. Then her family eats it nice and warm like that for a snack.
I changed it up a bit. I used maple agave to make it less glycemic, but it sure was sweet still (like the way I followed her recipe the first time I ever made it). I didn't use sesame seeds. I did add in dried cherries. Yum. Instead of butter (since I'm allergic to it) I used spray butter (took off the cap and poured it into the tbsp.).

It was 70 today, but the sun was so nice and strong, even though it was a cool wind, I went out there dressed for the coolness and got into my lounge chair and just soaked up the rays. Oh it felt good. After a bit a chipmunk yelled at me too much so I gave it up, but I had thoroughly enjoyed the time I had out there. :)
I did pick maybe a gallon of kiwi and some wild grapes prior to that. The kiwi is in jars in the fridge. I hope to make some jelly with the grapes tomorrow.

    Sounds like a fun day, I too went out and sat in my rope chair, and soaked in the sun. Was bothered by all the crows eating all the walnuts that are dropping now.
I will have to gather some soon, just too lazy today.

I got these pickled veggies yesterday, and remembered Dr. Oz saying pickled (vinegar anyway) veggies help you with losing weight. I ate some and it felt like I'd had too much salt. Sure enough, the sodium is high enough for one serving, and I had two. Should have paid more attention. Ugh! So I'm going to try to add in lemon juice and onion for my last meal of the day, since they are natural dieretics, and hope that this doesn't affect my weigh in. Ah well!

    Love pickled beets and agree the sodium can be a bummer when you're weighing in before you've had a chance to diurese.

    Cucumbers are a natural diuretic too. If you eat them before bedtime, take a pillow in the bathroom.

I read that about pickled things too, BUT I got very ill eating pickled bologna as small child,, cannot stand the smell of it or anything but actual pickles now.

Kayaking today! (Yep, pics) :)

Yay, I finally got to go kayaking again this year! It was a pretty day for it.
This is above, but looking toward the area you put in.

You have to go around this tree almost immediately after putting the kayaks into the water.
Then head on from there.
It was about 75 minutes all in all, for kayaking today. Hubby had the camera. He didn't take a lot of pics. Here's one of me near where we kayaked to. I was just relaxing, taking in the peacefulness of it all.

The land next to me looks like this.
Actually, he did a pan of the area.

Then we decided to get kayaking back. I thought I had seen him put the camera away but he took a picture of me kayaking.

Then after we brought the kayaks to our vehicle and I waited until he needed my help to put them on it, I took some pictures. Here is one of some fall color- though I don't know what kind of tree they're on (I just wanted the section that was colorful, lol).
Here is a picture of some weeds that were next to me on the bank, but the picture takes in some of the creek as well.
I leaned over and took a picture of plants in the water too.

Oh yes, and we saw a lot of these tall yellow flowers. I don't know what they are.

    I LOVE your photo blog!! ........... Wherever U live is beautiful and how great you can go kayaking! ............ (I only got 3.5 hrs. of sleep last noc) .......... Was awful!!) But the funny thing was, when I did wake up, my first thought was ............"Oh no! I won't be able to do the blog I intended!!!) ............. The weekend was good

It's been a pretty good weekend. Today I tried a variety of gluten free foods, since finding I very likely have a problem with gluten. I made some pizza crust for myself last night, because the rest of the fam, for our get together, wanted pizza for lunch before a movie today. I cooked up some lean pork that was rather salty and sliced it well for a pizza topping for myself- it worked well. Then I took some non-dairy non-gluten "shredded cheese", I found at the health food store just in time, and put it on top of some pizza sauce too. It was pretty good. :)
Speaking of gluten free, I discovered cous cous- made from semolina...of course....says so on the ingredients the gluten free section of the grocery store! Goodness. You have to look carefully even there!
Tonight I made some granola, but it got a bit overdone and isn't all that thrilling, lol. Ah well- it was filling!
This weekend I did get some things sealed so they'll last longer- romaine lettuce, baby kale, spinach and power greens (I think it was called), grapes, and the rest of the granola (that which did not land outside the jars anyway).
I have my menu all ready for tomorrow, so I think it was a pretty productive time. :)
Ah yes, and since summer ended at 4:44, I shall bid you a lovely autumn.

    Wow--sounds super healthy! I also got to thinking about yu saying your Vitamix is not working ............. and wondered IF you had purchased at a Bed-bath-and Beyond as they will let you return and exchange anything that you purchased there ............... Seems the company should do something ................ would it be a hard problem to fix? ..........
I have been reading the CP book and I can see why you read 4 times cos I have to re-read stuff too .......... like the diff beween shredding and shaping ............ and figure out what I will do for the muscle part ......... as I do a lot of gym stuff .............. leg press--eliptical but is this a part of it? ............. I am a bit foggy ............ and do wall squats with the big ball ........... (but NOT lunges or jumping--in my 60's ........... done with that stuff!! ............... emoticon

    Glad you had a good weekend. I hope going gluten free helps. I saw gluten free pizza mix at the store, is that what you got? Never tried it was wondering if it was good?
You are doing great planning your menus ahead of time.
