Past my halfway mark goal for weight loss!

Saturday, December 14, 2013

This last week, adding in almond milk really helped with the protein shakes I take to work with me. They tasted so much better. Getting my at least two cups of veggies per meal (like I'm supposed to) did too, though I admit I didn't do that always for breakfast.
But Classic carb-cycling week one after a slingshot week- went well- 2.6 lbs down! Just under my halfway point for weight loss. Woohoo!

Nope, not getting another kitty

Friday, December 13, 2013

I could tell the gal was in love with the kitty and vice versa so I suggested she ask her landlord if she might let her keep the kitty. The landlord said yes.
The kitty looks to be well enamored of their place already and our weather is atrocious for travel so it all works out for the best.

Glad the kitty has a good home. Our Scottie is still getting use to us.
emoticon She is lots of fun. Loves to play fetch. Even chooses her own partners. Have a great day! emoticon

I want a kitty! Sweetie says no cats, no dogs, no birds. I have to be happy with a hamster and a lizard. You can't snuggle up with them on the couch, but they're still "family" I guess.

Might be getting another pet

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

There is a stray kitty that had a friend (who is a distance away) take pity on it -even got a checkup and shots today. The friend can't keep the kitty due to renting and it being against the lease, so put out a plea for the kitty to get a good home. Hubby and I would like it, so if the storms subside long enough, hopefully, Saturday we will meet about half way there and we will have the four month old kitty. I hope she and our older cat and our two dogs get along well right from the start. :)

That is nice of you to take in the kitty. If the cats are struggling to get along you can get a spray from your vets office and spray around the room and it helps the cats calm down. I had to pick some up when I got a new kitten and my older cat was not happy it worked like a charm. You can even use the spray in their carriers if they do not like to travel.

We just took in a Scottie that needed a home. She is very loving and playful. Funny thing. She likes tuna juice on her dry dog food! Her pic is on my blog page. Hope it works out for you. emoticon

Slow introductions work best especially w/the cats. They need to get used to each other's smell first.

Veggie shake success

Monday, December 09, 2013

Today is low carb day so I decided to try making veggie shakes again. This time it tasted pretty good, with that addition of non-dairy milk, rather than using water. It cut down on the sweetness of the protein powder I'm able to use. Though I did find another flavor of theirs that I can use, and ordered it today, yay.
Today's first shake was made with my protein powder, two cups of spinach (which I'm testing again to see if I break out from), coconut milk, and a half of an avocado for the fat I needed for the meal. The second one was the same except almond milk instead of coconut, and only one cup of spinach and a cup of mushrooms.
Now those mushrooms gave a bit of a strange flavor truthfully, but not bad...
I'm just so grateful the shakes no longer taste like they did the week I threw up some of my shakes (due to an allergy to zucchini turns out)!

wow, I have never heard of anyone who is allergic to zucchini!
Glad you are finding shakes that work for you.

Dentist and Veggies

Saturday, December 07, 2013

Yesterday I went to the dentist. I broke a tooth mid-September and hubby has been wanting to know how much to put in for FSA so I got my appointment over with and know how much we'll need for my teeth. They WANT to build up two teeth, and crown one. However, they gave me an alternative -to "fill" both. I can have two surface filling for one and three surface filling for the other (the broken one)- and that was WAY cheaper so I'm going with that. It's not 'til February though. The second tooth that needs the building up is the one I'm chewing with so much on the opposite side of my mouth from the broken molar. It's very sensitive a good bit of the time, because of it being worn down, so it's not very pleasant to chew.
All that to say that between that and the zucchini and celery (which was what I was thinking was so great to get quick doses of veggies with in shakes) making me vomit that one week- I've not been having much in the way of shakes. Just can't think of low carb veggies that would be good in them -other than maybe cucumbers, but boy they're low in carbs. That and the protein powder that I CAN use I don't like the flavor of (the other flavors have milk added- an allergen for me). I can't use any other protein that I've looked at. I won't give up- I think I'll try using almond milk (I may not be able to eat almonds- but maybe my skin will okay the milk made from them) and see if I can handle the protein flavor in that this coming week.
It takes a long time to chew the peppers I can eat (you're supposed to have two cups of veggies per five meals), so it's hard to want to take that to work with me. I did bring cucumbers to work but ended up not wanting to take the time to chew all that -plus, the tooth sensitivity...lessens that desire.
The dentist did give me maximum strength sensodyne. I have been using sensodyne..but not the maximum strength. Will have to try that and see how it goes.
There are some other veggies that I think I can eat but they don't seem that great in shakes. I'm not sure they aren't bothering my skin either, but will keep trying them.
Back to veggies- I have to admit I did not eat much in the way of veggies this last week, but then again, I'm pretty sure I got probably 5 servings of veg/fruit a day...
I actually mainly did lunch meat with gluten free bread for work meals...so salt holds water in too.
This week was "slingshot week" on the Chris Powell carb-cycling plan that I am doing. That means I ate "high carb" all week, ending with a reward day.
I didn't lose any weight. I didn't gain an ounce either. It's pretty typical to not lose any weight on a slingshot week (and maybe even gain a little). Slingshot week and reward day both surprise your metabolism so you're given a jump start to do well at losing weight the next three weeks ('til next slingshot week) of carb-cycling.
Well, if you stayed reading all the way to the end- you're a trooper, and thanks! :)

I so hope you can get your tooth fixed as soon as possible. Keep checking with the office, maybe they will have a cancellation and can get you in sooner. Tooth pain is some of the worst!

emoticon Hope you get your dental issues taken care of. I hate going to the dentist, can never find a gentle one, hope yours is gentle.
You are doing great at following the Chris Powell carb-cycling plan, good job
Took me a while to get all my fruits and veggies in, never liked either, I do now, but I can eat a good variety. Maybe in the future you will be able to add more.
I have heard of others drinking coconut milk, have you tried that? Did you find a good gluten free bread? Took me a while before I found one I liked.
This is the 3rd time I typed this up, Hope it goes through. We are getting a freezing rain right now, so we will take Patty later. Probably messing with our internet service too.
Thanks for posting Michelle, have a great weekend. emoticon Jackie

If you add an apple to pretty well all veggie shakes and smoothies it makes a big difference and you will enjoy your veggie drinks...
