Oh Boy!

Monday, January 03, 2011

So - with the injuries following my December 6th fall (broken knee & hand) making exercise impossible and the holidays bringing all kinds of taboo food into my home and office - I am up 8lbs!!! So today is a new day and it is a new year. I don't do "New Year's Resolution" because I never keep them. So I won't call this a resolution. However, I am getting back on track as of today! This is my New Week's Resolution! That I can do! :-)
I start Physical Therapy today and sincerely hope it won't be too long before I can resume some kind of exercise program. The Orthopedic Doctor does not believe I will need surgery. I am booked for a cruise on February 27th and he feels I will be mostly recovered by then.
So having said all of this - wish me luck!!!
Happy New Week everyone! LOL

Back to work today!

Monday, December 13, 2010

I am back to work today. Wrist brace on broken right hand, leg brace on broken right knee and crutches to make things really interesting.
Luckily I have coworkers who are more than willing to help me out.
So far I haven't shown a weight gain. Since I'm not doing anything to burn calories, I don't have much of an appetite so staying within range is quite easy. Hopefully I can get through this without gaining, even if I'm not able to lose anymore right now.
I still hope to get back on track before too long so I can reach my goals. We'll see...
As always - Prayers are welcome!

No More Exercise For Me!

Thursday, December 09, 2010

On Monday, I was power walking with Odie (Beagle/Basset) as usual when my little hound dog caught a scent of something and crossed in front of me. I tripped over him and landed HARD on the pavement. I went home and iced both knees and my right hand all day. Tuesday I woke in a lot of pain and decided that since I am no spring chicken anymore, that maybe I should get checked out. Well...
I broke my right hand. I also broke my right knee. They believe that I have also torn the ligament in my right knee and the cartilege (sp?) in my left knee. I am bound with a wrist brace on my right hand, a full leg brace on my right leg and a nice shiny pair of crutches. Isn't that fun with a broken hand?!?
Luckily, I am not in a lot of pain. Thank the Good Lord for that! I also have a number of friends and family members that are ever so willing to help me out. The doctors are releasing me to return to work on Monday but of course someone else will have to drive me. I go for an MRI of both knees on Tuesday and then they will determine what comes next.
I am being very careful about how many calories I am taking in. But I am disheartened that I am unable to do any exercise. I just don't know if I can lose weight without it. My biggest hope is that I can at least maintain until I can get back to an active lifestyle.
Prayers are very welcome! I will try to stay in touch!

    Oh NO!

That's a terrible thing to have happen. Thank goodness you are not in a lot of pain - it seems like with the injuries you have that you would be!

I think I read someplace that when your body is healing your BMR actually bumps up a bit - burning more calories while making the repairs. So, you might not be as bad off trying to maintain as you might think.

Hang in there - I've had several broken bones (though usually only one at the time!) and know how hard it is to not be able to do the things you want to do... after this initial couple of weeks - it will get better.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

My Gold Pig!

Monday, November 15, 2010

I didn't take a picture the day it turned Gold so it doesn't show the 40 hours. But I took a picture this morning and thought it noteworthy enough to share!
40 hours on the Wii Fit Plus earned me the coveted GOLD PIGGY BANK!
YAY! 40 hours of training and I still love my Wii Fit Plus.
I haven't even done half of the games on it. 90% of my 40 hours were earned from my morning yoga & strength training routine.
I have also started to jump rope. Remember when you were a kid how many hours you would spend jumping rope? If I can jump for 1 full minute I am lucky. After about 70 jumps (and I had to work up to that!), I am pretty sure that my heart is about to jump right out of my chest and land on the ground in front of me! (sorry for THAT mental image!)
I keep looking for ideas for quick ways to burn more calories. I already work out on the Wii for 30 minutes and walk for a total of one hour each day. There just isn't much time left to add more exercise in. I am open to suggestions.
Well, as always, thank you to all of my Spark friends and supporters. I hope you all have a Blessed day!

Happy to be OVERWEIGHT!!!

Friday, November 12, 2010

Oh Yeah! That's Right! I'm OVERWEIGHT!!!
Am I really happy about that? Oh Yeah!!!
I have been OBESE for many years. So I must say that being OVERWEIGHT is a vast improvement!
I started with Spark People in March 2010 with a BMI of 36.9. I now have a BMI of 29.2. Not the BMI of 25 or less that I am striving for but I am more than half way to 25.
I still have another 32 pounds to lose but having lost 48.2, I am more than half way there too! Actually, it's a little more than 60%! So - OH YEAH!!! I am happy to be OVERWEIGHT!!!
