I reached 3 major weight milestones

Monday, July 19, 2010

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I'm a few days late reporting this...odd because it's super exciting. But I've been busy working out like crazy and enjoying the pool. Yes, you read the blog title right...I reached THREE milestones in ONE week.

My weigh-in on Sat, July 10 was 208.2 lbs.
My weigh-in this past Sat, July 17 was 203.4 lbs.

That means that I've:
1) lost 50 lbs (208)
2) lost 20% (206.4)
3) reached my halfway to goal weight point (204)

I am now less than 4 pounds away from Onederland and less than 10 away from no longer being obese!!

I don't see any "happy dance" emoticons, so I can think I'm going to have to settle for emoticon.

running update

Sunday, July 18, 2010

I only ran 2 days this week because I grew quite a blister on my left big toe. So I repeated Week 7 (2.5 miles). Today was Day 2, and I went running outside for the first time! I went to the hs track, which is really cushioned.
My knees handled the run okay at the time but hurt me later on. (Nothing unmanageable.) The heat was a concern because it was already in the 70s at 6:30 am, and I'm used to exercising in an air-conditioned gym, but it didn't bother me. It was, however, a LOT harder to run without having something to help propel me. I finished in about the same time it takes me on the treadmill, so I guess I did a pretty good pacing, at least. My heart rate was just a lot higher than it is running that pace on the TM.

I bit the bullet and signed up for the 5K I'd been hoping to enter. I was scared because I haven't run outside and I'm still only up to 2.5 miles--who knows how I'll handle an additional 0.6 miles OUTSIDE--but Friday was the deadline to enter if you wanted a free t-shirt, and I could use some new clothes. emoticon It's on Saturday, August 14 at 9am and the money raised will benefit the local SPCA. So even if I can't hit my goal of running the whole thing, I know I'm helping out some animals that really need the help.

Because of that nasty blister I mentioned earlier, I figured I needed to invest in a pair of running shoes. Amazingly, I found a running specialty store so I went there to get fitted for a pair of shoes yesterday. I tried on about 5 pairs and got to take them on test runs outside the store. I got a pair that seemed to really fit well. Of course. with all the troubles I have finding shoes to fit, wouldn't you know that my feet started rubbing in them around mile 2 of my run today and now I have blisters in a different spot (same foot, though). I'll have to call the store tomorrow and see if there's anything I can do about these shoes. They told me that running shoes shouldn't really need to be broken in because there's not a lot of give, and it worries me that my expensive, brand new sneakers are already giving me blisters. We shall see if I can work anything out.

Try moleskin if there aren't any other alternatives from the store. My dd used duct tape the other day and it helped. Great job on running!!!

C25K: Week 7

Sunday, July 11, 2010

Week 7: 2.5 miles

Day 1
Run 1.19 miles
Walk 0.13 mile
Run 1.19 miles

Lesson learned:
ē Apparently Iím better at this than I thought.
I was in a row on the treadmills next to 2 guys going 6.3 mph. The one next to me told me I had a good pace (at 5.2 mph). Not knowing if he was being sarcastic, I told him I was new at it and was going for endurance, not speed. I then told him Iíd only been running about 6 weeks. He told me that that surprised him and that I looked like Iíd been running for a lot longer. He said I was doing great, and before he left he told me to keep it up. How awesome!

Day 2
Goal:
Run 1.22 miles
Walk 0.06 mile
Run 1.22 miles

Actual:
Ran 1. 9 miles total
Walked 0.59 mile total

I had to take many walking breaks. This was a BAD running day for me and the first time that I couldnít hit my running mileage goals. I hit my total goal but not for the running portion.

Lessons learned:
ē Listen to your body. It sucks not to meet your running goals, but thereís no shame in admitting when you need a walk break (especially if itís over 100 degrees outside and, even in the air conditioned gym, youíre still feeling sick from the heat).
ē Do NOT run 2 days in a row. Not only is it physically exhausting for my legs but my mind just never seems to be where it ideally should be to have a good run.

Day 3
I was feeling nervous after Day 2 and started expecting the worst, thinking ďI just donít know how today is going to go after I bombed so badly on Tuesday.Ē

Goal: Meet Day 2ís Goals
Run 1.22 miles
Walk 0.06 miles
Run 1.22 miles

Actual:
RAN 2.5 MILES! NO walking!!!!

Lessons learned:
ē Sunday is my best day to run. I havenít run since Wednesday at the latest, and Iíve had a total day off from working out at all. My muscles are rested and Iím in a better mental place.
ē In the right frame of mind and with the proper rest, I LIKE to run. Who knew?! (I couldíve blown my mom over with a feather when I shared that tidbit with her.)

I ran a mile for the first time!

Sunday, June 27, 2010

emoticon emoticon emoticon
As promised, I'm here to let you know how C25K is going. This was my 5th week. I followed days 1 & 2 as written:

Day 1:
Jog 0.5 mile
Walk 0.25 mile
Jog 0.5 mile
Walk 0.25 mile
Jog 0.5 mile

Day 2:
Jog 0.75 mile
Walk 0.5 mile
Jog 0.75 mile

Day 3 was supposed to be a 2 mile jog. That's a big jump from the 0.75 mile intervals/1.5 mile total distance I was doing before, and WAY more than my knees and probably my muscles could handle in 1 session.
I revised to:

Jog 1 mile
Walk 0.25 mile
Jog 0.75 mile

So for the first time in my life, I ran 1 mile without stopping or walking. I can't believe I'm actually doing this! I'm not sure if I actually like running, but I LOVE the feeling of meeting my goals and seeing how much I can do.

Congrats on completing that mile! I am not a runner (except for inside jogging style), and am very impressed that you are doing this. Way to go!
