An emailed BOGO coupon, promising up to 4 free mix-ins per ice cream, lured me to Cold Stone Creamery yesterday. Deciding to enjoy myself while keeping my weight goals in mind, I requested access to the nutrition info, in the process receiving an "Are you serious?" from my mom, along with a "you are such a PITA" facial expression. Didn't care.
After hemming and hawing for probably 10 minutes, I placed my order, choosing fat free ice cream with only 2 mix-ins: pecans and fresh strawberries. The syrups and candies were tempting, but being aware of their nutrition content allowed me to honestly and fully be content with something a little more healthful.
I mindfully savored my ice cream and discovered I felt satisfied about 2/3 of the way through. When I announced I was going to throw the remainder away, my mom gave me a horrified look and said, aghast, "There are starving children in India!" To which I replied, "They are still going to be starving whether or not I eat the rest of this ice cream." And so proceeded to (almost) guiltlessly throw it away.
I WILL break free of the Clean Plate Club.
