Wow!! Wow!! and Wow!!! and more Wows!!

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

There is so much good news to share I don't know what to tell you all first. So let's start off chronologically. I have two walking buddies. I walk with one in the morning and one at night. It has been getting very warm here in the mornings so we have decided to do aerobics (WATP) at my house. Love our summers here in Yuma. Yeah right!! But it is still nice in the evening for now to keep outside with walking and biking. That will change soon...not looking forward to that. Anyways on to the Wows.
I was a speaker at the Spark For Life Convention. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!!! I had a fabulous time. Met many many fabulous people. Made some new friends. Learned a lot. Definitely buying the book when it comes out in December! Nervous about the speech I had to give. So nervous that I ended up "winging" it and have no idea what I said. But I did get good raves after it was over and saw heads nodding during it, so I must have done good. lol. My hubby, Sis, and mom were all there to support me. Yay!!! All the people at SparkPeople were amazing. I loved meeting the people behind the scenes that make all of this possible for us. I can't begin to tell you how fantabulous they are. They are the most nicest people you will ever meet not to mention all of our fellow Sparkers out there. It is so good to be in the company of people who get you, who have been where you are at, who know what you are going through, who know what you have been through, and who want to be in a better place in their lives. There was such a positive vibe. I wished it lasted longer (the convention). I can't wait to go to next year's. If you didn't go, you can't miss the next one...trust me!!
I have made a huge dent in progress on myself and my house. My friend Jodi helped me do that...to which I cannot thank her enough! She spent her vacation with me cleaning. Who does that?! I know...my BFF. She is awesome squared and then some!! My bedroom is now a bedroom and not the black hole where everything gets sucked up in and stays there. I am ready to tackle the rest of my house, one project at a time. The depressional funk is gone. I have a new outlook on life. And I want to live it!!
My Sis had some bad weeks waiting for news about how her baby was doing. Waiting for time to pass so she could get the amnio and then waiting for the weeks to pass again to get the news....the results. And I am super super excited to tell you all that she is going to have a healthy baby!!!! I am so sorry she had to go through all the agony of negativity and not knowing and worrying. But it is over now and everything is fine. Better than fine. And this leads us to the next Wow!
I DID IT!!! I did my first marathon!!! WooHoo!!! I was upset because I was going to have to walk the whole thing because I was having IT Band issues and then I found relief. I went to the expo on Saturday and found this booth that was selling different gadgets and wraps and there it was. The answer to my prayers, well the answer to my dilemma...let's not get all drama about. lol. They had an IT Band wrap. The best $15 I spent!! It worked too. NO more pain in my knee. I was able to run when I had to and that was awesome. I actually missed running. Until I had to face those darn uphill slopes (being nice here). hahaha. I had a great weekend. I was able to spend time with my Sis and see what she does (for a living), well part of what she does. Bowing down to her. She is so great! (I know you are reading this...how did I do? lol) Went to the Expo and checked out all the booths and ate all the free samples I wanted to try without any guilt because I was doing a marathon the next day. Burn those calories!!! Went to dinner with my Sis. Went to my cousin's 21st birthday party. And the jaws were dropping all over the place. Yes I did take away some of the birthday girl's thunder...didn't mean to but I earned it! Saw a lot of family I hadn't seen in a while...back before SP. So they were in for a shock. Went back to Sis' and went to bed. Got up at 5:20am and got ready for the marathon. We were running a bit behind. Long story. We were in the group of stragglers running to the start line because everyone had already started. Whoops! So Ryan was only able to run/walk with us for the first 4ish miles because he had to go to work (boss had to go to a funeral so he had to open up). Amy (Sis) did the first 7 1/2 ish miles with me. I was solo for about 11 ish miles...I ran about 9 of those miles or so. Met back up with Sis just before mile 19 and we did the rest of the race together. I am in awe of her. Here she is less than a week away from being 5 months pregnant and she is walking/jogging most of the marathon with me. Again I am bowing down to her! She Rocked the marathon. So this time out I made sure I had enough food/water with me. I had a 2 Ltr camelback filled with SmartWater (water with electrolytes) and plenty of Zbars (Clif bars for kids) to get me through the race. I did not want to dehydrate this time out. So I ended up peeing like a pregnant woman on this race because I was drinking enough fluids. I have proof of that...everytime my Sis had to use the bathroom so did I. LOL!!! I was soooo glad she joined me at the end...couldn't have done it without her. She is my inspiration! She kept me going. Hugs to you Sis!! So we crossed the finish line together....6:05:21!!! Only an hour later than we anticipated. Not bad considering I was going to walk the whole thing because of my knee and my Sis was pregnant. I am proud of the whole thing. I DID IT!!! We did it!! It was a great experience. I learned a lot about myself on this race. I know I will do better in the future races. I know what to do for the next one. There are so many little stories to share about the marathon....I will blog about them later. You will laugh...I know I do when I think about it.
So now I am recovering from the sore muscles and aches. Doing a lot better than I did with the Half in January. See you can learn from your mistakes. Now it's back to training for the next race. I am doing another Half Marathon in October. I know I will be in great shape for it. I am walking it with my friend Jodi. She wanted to do one and asked if I wanted to do it with her....oh you know I do!!! And so it begins....

Oh I almost forgot the final Wow! Monday was my weigh in day. Drumroll please..... 149.4 pounds!!!!! I did it!!!! I actually past my goal of 150!!! WooHoo!!!! So now I am in maintenance mode...which means I get to eat more food. Not sure if I can get used to that. I had a hard time yesterday trying to come up with more to eat to meet my minimum. I know what a tough problem to have. It's just amazing to me how much I have changed. Before SP I would have easilly passed by the 2000 calorie mark and now I am having trouble trying to get up to that mark! What a difference a year + makes. Yay!!!

So to recap: Made 2 new friends that I exercise with, went to the convention and shared my story and made new friends too, I have my bedroom back, Sis' baby is healthy, I did a marathon, and I am at my last goal weight and now I am in maintenance mode! Wow to the past 6 weeks!!! WOW!!!

You CAN do it!!! Find something you are passionate about and go for it. Find an exercise program that you love to do and do it. Get a buddy to do it with you. They will help keep you motivated. I have two that keep me off the couch and on the pavement. You CAN do it!!!! I know you can....I am proof that it works. I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!! WooHoo!!!!

I can't believe I didn't see this blog before. I've been coming out of my stress-induced funk finally (it was one heck of a year) so I'm roaming around my friends' pages. Congratulations on reaching maintenance. How are you doing with that? Any advice? I'm in a major push to reach my own goal of 145 by the end of December. Nice job on the marathon. I saw a comment from Leah about you doing Carlsbad? Are you? I went to sign up for the half a week ago and was bummed to see they'd already sold out. So I signed up for another San Diego half in Feb.

Anyway, congrats again for everything!

Definitely something(s) to woohoo about! My baby sister does marathons, but I have never run a race. I've had surgery on both knees. That is awesome that you finished. My grandson did his first marathon this fall. He was not pleased with his time, but he did not train, and it was his first. I told him that if you finish a marathon, you are like in the top 10% of America because the rest of us (the other 90%) haven't even done it slow!!! Way to go! emoticon

Wowwie!!! I love all the excitement and enthusiasm in your blog!!! Yay for you and hip hip hooray for your sis!!! Awesome news!!! Congrats on the marathon finish. Super bummed I didn't get to meet up with you. We were super slow (6:40) because my running partner hurt her ankle at mile 2 and then got light headed and almost passed out at the half. She continued but had to walk. I forged ahead and then would wait for her. I am curious as to what my time would have been if she were in peak condition that day. Oh well, we set out to finish and we did. Yes! Congrats again on a job well done my friend!

The "Skinny"...

Thursday, April 23, 2009

That's me! I can't believe I actually did it!! I reached my goal back on March 30th. I have since set a new goal which is now 150 pounds. I have 6 pounds to go! When I reach that goal I will go into maintenance mode. Looking forward to that. I am now skinny!!! I have never been skinny. I am constantly looking at myself in the mirror and wondering who is that?! I am still not used to the person I see in the reflection but it is something I look forward to getting used to. WooHoo!!! I have literally worked my butt off to get here...and I am so glad I did. I am now a size 8 and have been able to squeeze into a few size 6 bottoms. I have also bought some clothes that are Smalls. Unbelievable!! I know this sounds like I am bragging, well I am but it's only because I know that you can do this . I want to show you what it is like to reach your goal you work so hard to get. You, the one reading this, CAN do this! I am a couch potato! A TV junkie! A Picky Eater! I have a hard time finishing things I start. But I did this!!!! I DID this!!! And You CAN too!!!

I have had a lot going on my life lately. My Sis is pregnant with her first child. I am soo excited about becoming an Auntie!! I reached my goal and set a new one. I was chosen to be a Member Panelist at the San Diego "Spark For Life" Convention coming up on May 2nd. Have you gotten your ticket to go? Why not?! I am going to speak about my journey and what I did to get here. Looking forward to meeting all of my fellow Sparkers!!! I have a knee injury that at the moment is keeping me from running but I am not letting that stop me from training for the Marathon I am doing at the end of May. I am walking instead. Maybe. My last "walk" I did do some running and walked when the pain started and kept alternating. So there is hope that I might run part or all of it. If I am unable to run the whole thing then I am just going to have to do another one! I decided that next year I am going to do a Triple Crown...which is 3 half marathons that qualify (they are in San Diego). Looking forward to doing that. I know that I will have a better experience doing these than my first one (I got dehydrated and passed out after I crossed the Finish Line). I know what works for me when I am running/walking long distances. I found the key!! lol. I am starting to make friends here (at home), I haven't made any on my own (I have 2 through my husband) since I moved over 4 years ago. So I am happy about that. Phone friends are great but it is nice to talk to someone in person. You know?! I had to go to a funeral at the beginning of the month and saw my mom for the first time in over a year (long story but I haven't talked to her in a year so she is not in my life at present). Her jaw dropped to the floor seeing how skinny I got. That was nice. Still not speaking but I am glad she is going to the Convention to see me speak. It's not that I don't want her in my life I just don't agree with her choices in her life and I don't want it to affect my kids like it did me. So we have a long road ahead to mend the relationship. Hopefully it is soon because I do miss talking to her. Sorry about that. Sometimes I ramble and get off subject. I got my hair cut again. It's very similar to the last one. I don't have pictures yet but will post when I get some taken. I just celebrated my 1st year SparkAnniversary on Tuesday (21st)!!! WooHoo!! Also on the 21st was my anniversary with my hubby, our first date....19 years ago!!! Wow!

I don't blog too often but I do post updates on my page about once a month so stop by and check it out. I will try to blog on a more regular basis...like I did in the beginning. So look for more in the future.

I just want to Thank All of my Spark Buddies for sticking with me and encouraging me along the way. For all the positive messages I have gotten from all of you. They really really do help and make my day! I hope that I have inspired you to get on your path to a fabulous new you. Your journey is going to be full of twists and turns, ups and downs, bad times and good times. It will be the best one you will ever take!!! If I can do this....You CAN too!!!! I am here for you....let me know how I can help you.
Hugs and Love to All!
Keep on keepin' on,
Stacey

Pinch Me...I Am Dreaming....

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

On second thought, if I am dreaming I don't want to wake up!!! I went to San Diego this weekend to visit with my Sis. I took my daughter with me (girls weekend). We went shopping on Saturday. I got my feet analyzed and now have the right shoes and inserts to run in. WooHoo! My daughter and I went to the mall while my Sis had to work for a few hours. Well of course I had to try on clothes. Here is the Pinch Me part: I am a size 10!!!! OMG!!! I can't believe it!!! The smallest I have ever been is a 13....until now that is. WooHoo!!! I am less than 7 pounds away from my goal weight. I am still workin' it! I am super super excited about the whole thing. I look at these pants and wonder how am I going to fit in these tiny things....I put my leg in each hole and they just slide right on up over my hips and they zip up, no overhang, not tight, just comfortable, just right. I am a size 10!!! Move over Bo Derek the new 10 is in town!!! Because of my boobs I am a 12 on top...oh darn the luck. hahaha. I never in a million years would have thought I could be this small. I know I am going on and on and on but you would be too. Right?!? Of course I had to buy a few pairs of these skinny pants/jeans. And we went back on Sunday before we left for home and got some more great bargains and skinny clothes!! I will post pictures soon...look for them sometime this week. (P.S. Sears is having a great sale...go find those bargains! At least the one in San Diego/El Cajon was)

I am in awe of the person who looks back at me in the mirror...I have never seen this person before in my life...but she is looking good!!! Hey that is me! That is ME!!! It could be YOU! It will be YOU!! Keep your eye on the prize and keep movin' and a groovin'!!

Vegas til now...(sorry it's a long blog)

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Hey Everyone--
Just wanted to catch you all up on my adventures. So we (hubby and me) went to Las Vegas, Feb 12-15, we went there to see a time share promo. Hey for a couple of hours we got a free stay at the stratosphere, 2 free show tickets, 2 ticket to the top of the Tower, $200 promo slot play, and a certificate to get remarried at a chapel. Well if we actually got to do all of these things it would have been a better trip. We had some great times and some not so great times. Vegas sure is changing...they don't call it "Sin City' for nothing! Apparently you don't have to go to a strip club to see pole dancers (just for the record, because I just know you all are wondering, I have never been to a strip club!), they have girls dancing in the center by the card tables. They weren't there 3 years ago. So let's start from the beginning shall we...
Thursday (the 12th)- My sister-in-law came down later than we were expecting so we got off to a late start (she watched our kids for us). We drove her truck up there because it gets better gas mileage (rather spend the money in Vegas than in the tank. lol.). Well I haven't driven a stick in about 12 years!!! So it was a nice refresher for me and my hubby needed one too. He is so used to driving his 18 wheeler (which by the way you hardly use the clutch or see 1st gear for that matter), this was a small challenge to us both. The clutch started out on the floor (which is too low to begin with) and ended up where it is supposed to sit. LOL!!! So we get to Vegas, check in, and meet up with our friends and go to dinner. We went down to about center strip, me and Susan ended up walking from just Planet Hollywood all the way down to the Tropicana...meanwhile after about a long block or so the "boys" turned around and got the car and met us down there. Good thing because I really didn't want to walk all the way back after we ate. I was a good girl for the most part at all the buffets we went to, just so you know, I skipped all the deserts!! I loaded up on salad first, no dressing and then ate the leanest plainest meat I could find (no breading). I can be taught! hahaha. After dinner we went to a store we have always wanted to go to but never had the chance in all the times we've been there...the largest souvenir shop. My husband finally found one of those big rubber chickens, he was happy (he's been looking for one for years now). Get back to the room...get to bed after 1am. Get up around 7. Found a good cheap buffet at Boulder Station (friday)...$10.75 for both of us, not bad. They have an egg station....soooo yummy. I had the best eggs over medium I have ever had in my life. Yummy!! We spent about $2-4 gambling. Yeah I know we are the big spenders. We don't gamble much, we go to Vegas for the shows and to people watch. So we are cheap on our food and gambling so we can have more fun doing activities. That is why I bring along healthy snacks and bottled water. So we go to the Luxor get a players club card (freebies) and get our tickets to see the Titanic Exhibit. Well we planned on seeing it then but the line to the box office was sooo long we had to come back to see it. We didn't want to be rushed. We had to go back to our hotel to get on the shuttle for the time share thing. So we do that (it took about 15 minutes to get there) and take the shuttle back (that took over an hour because we had to stop at 6-7 hotels along the way. Plus it was rainy and traffic was getting thicker because everyone and there brother was coming in to town). We ate a food bar and went to the Titanic, which by the way is sooo awesome. We seen it 3 years ago when it was at the Tropicana, we wanted to see what they changed about it when it moved to the Luxor (it will be there for at least 10 more years, so you have some time. lol). So afterwards we found a Little Caesar's and had pizza, they threw in some free crazy bread because they were closing up. That was my worst calorie meal of the whole trip but it was sooo yummy. Went to bed in the a.m. again. Got up around 7. Now it is Saturday (Valentine's Day), we decided to drive out to see his parents, they were a couple hours away. We hadn't seen them in months and his dad had an accident in December which broke his hip and he had surgery and..... So we were close by so why not. We had to be back in Vegas to see our friends get remarried at 4 o'clock. So we are driving down the highway, an hour into the trip, when we come to a complete stop. We moved 1/4 mile in an hours time! Ugh!!! So we debated on what to do. If we stayed in the line up and it started moving we might have enough time to say hi and then we would have to leave. Who knows if we would be able to get back in time with the traffic on the way back. So we decided to turn around. Turned out there was an accident...7 cars....and the road was finally cleared up on Sunday. Sorry for those people in the accident. So we go to Wal-Mart (my home away from home) get a throw away camera and look around a bit. Have lunch at healthy Subway. Get back to the hotel to change and go to the wedding. That was another drama...getting there. P.S. my period starts (a little early too), way to have a romantic weekend! You see our friends did the time share thing too so I thought they were getting married at the chapel they assigned us to and they went to another one because they were booked. So long story short we make it there late but the chapel was running late so we didn't miss anything. Yay! Traffic was horrible. So they got "hitched" again. We all went out (they had a couple of friends there and her brother and his wife were there too) to eat afterwards. I told my hubby not to have a conniption about the price of our dinner. It was our friends' day so where ever they wanted to eat we were going to go and pay whatever it was. We had enough money because we weren't able to do any of the other things we wanted to do because of all the wasted time. Anyways. She wanted to go to P. F. Chang's, okay. I don't like chinese food. But I was going to go and eat anyways. I was going to eat rice. Turns out the wait was too long for them so we ended up going to Planet Hollywood's buffet ($27.99, ouch!). Well if only it were $27.99. Because we were a party of 8 they tacked on 18% gratuity (we all paid separately- 4 couples). So instead of $60 it was $71!!! $10 tip, are they crazy?! It is a buffet. Oh let's times that by 4....she got a $40 tip to give us drinks and take away our plates...not worth it. I did work in the food service area for about 6 months...I know how hard servers work but this is a buffet, we are getting our own food. Okay enough about that. We ate ( I of course didn't get my money's worth of food....they won). We all went across the street to the Bellagio and saw two shows (the next one started less than 5 minutes after the first one ended). Then we went on to Caesar's Palace. We saw a lot of "unusual" people out there (I am being nice here). We all parted ways after a while. It was after all Valentine's Day. So we walked around for a while looked at some shops and went back to the hotel. Another late night. Got up early again. Went to Casino Royale to redeem our $200 promo slot money. That was a waste of time. You could only get money back if you got a jackpot. I was up over $100, oh well. Ended up with nothing. Well it wasn't a total waste...we bought a couple of great jackets for $20 each (they look like a letterman's jacket). We went to Boulder Station for brunch. Again the food was yummy!!! We ended up getting home at 7:30pm...so much for early afternoon. I was supposed to run 10 miles...that didn't happen. I went to bed early, for me anyways, and ended up getting 11 hours of much need sleep.

So now I am trying to get back into the whole marathon training. For some reason I am just not that gung ho about it like I was for the Half Marathon. I need to snap out of it and get back on track. So this weekend I am going to San Diego to get some running shoes, a jogging stroller and see my Sis. I am taking my daughter with me. Girl time! I also have to "squeeze" in a 12 mile run.

Today I was supposed to run 5 miles...that turned into a 3 mile run. Apparently the hip problems I was having earlier is now in my knee. I also figured out what the problem is...thank goodness for the internet. I am having problems with my IT Band. What is that you say? Iliotibial Band. Basically it is a muscle that goes from your hip down your outer thigh and ends at the top outside of your shin area. And the reason I am having problems with it is because of two things: #1 running on uneven surface...driveways in the sidewalks, makes the pelvis tilt and causes an imbalance, and #2 I have never stretched that muscle out properly...because I never knew it existed for one. So now I know how to stretch it and hopefully after I recover from the tenderness/strain I won't have this problem again.

So I am excited about getting my feet analyzed and fitted for the proper running shoes. The pair I have I bought because the price is right, not knowing about the different types of shoes for different type arches and pronations. There is so much to learn about the sport of running. Proper shoes, training, food, hydration, refueling during a run, proper apparel, and the list goes on. I have also lost 30 pounds since I bought my shoes....a lot has changed.

I am super excited to be in the 160s now. So close to my goal weight, I can almost touch it. So when I get to 160, I am going to re evaluate my end goal weight. I think I might go down to 150, but those last 10 pounds I am going to lose much slower. I will aim for about 1 pound a week instead of 2. And definitely do a lot more strength training to sculpt out my muscles more. Definitely need to work on the abs. I know I won't have any trouble losing the weight with my training schedule. I have 3 more months to go until the Marathon. I CAN do it!!

Sorry for the long blog. It's been a while. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Wishing you all the strength, courage, and determination you need on your journey to a fabulous, happy, and healthy new you!!! You CAN do this!! I have gotten this far....I know you can too. If you believe it, you can achieve it!!

Sounds like an adventure, Stacey! Not exactly relaxing though. Geesh, I used to live in Vegas back in the 80's for a year or so and have wanted to go back for a look-see. Sounds like it has gotten even weirder, busier and more expensive. You and hubby seemed to have a good time and that's the important part. I recently bought a book at a local thrift store that you may be interested in getting from your library. It's called, "The Complete Book of Running for Women," by Claire Kowalchik. It explains the whole shoe/pronation/arch think you mentioned and what you should look for in a shoe, plus a WHOLE LOT of other stuff. "Training, Nutrition, Injury Prevention, Motivation, Racing, and Much, Much More..."

Good Luck getting over your injury and getting back on track, Honey. You can do it. You're like Superwoman!

Hugs.

WooHoo!!! I have reached another milestone! I have lost 80 pounds!!!!!!!!!!! EIGHTY POUNDS....GONE...NOT COMING BACK.....EVER!!!! This is such an incredible feat. I have worked hard for every pound lost. I have changed my eating habits, I pay attention to my portion sizes, I eat more fruits and veggies, drink at least 8 glasses of water, and eat only when I am hungry. Not to mention all the hours of exercise I put in every week. All of which has made a drastic life change for me that I can sooo keep up and plan to do. I now know what works for me. I started out wearing a size 20 and now I am wearing a size 12...soon to be a size 10! I have never ever in my life worn a size 12!!! I am a size 12!!! Unbelievable!!! I was shooting for a 13/14....I would be content with that size. But whoa...a size 12. I didn't know I could be that small. It is so strange to do my laundry and fold these little pants....Are these mine or my son's?....NO, they are mine!!! I am also wearing a medium top now, which is amazing to me. I told my hubby that he couldn't wear my t-shirts anymore because I am a Medium now!!! Hahaha!!! I love it!!! I have inspired him to lose some weight too. He has been doing push ups (10-20) at each delivery stop (he's a truck driver) he does. He is working those arms, boy!! He did over 100 today!!! Keep it up!

I am loving this adventure called my life!!!
