Help!! I'm eating candy, again.

Here's the deal. I have reached my goal weight(yaay). I have increased my work-outs, seriously. I now go to the gym 5 days a week, and burn upwards of 1000 calories each time. I generally don't eat as much as my program says I can. So, now I can eat some candy and still stay within my range. THIS IS NOT GOOD. I never knew stuff like twizzlers and skittles,had so many carbs. So, while I stay within my calorie range, I go way over sometimes, in carbs. Again, not good. I've got to get a handle on this, before it gets out of hand. Any suggestions? I don't eat chocolate, but I love things with white sugar. Gummy worms, jelly beans, gummy lifesavers.

    I have the same problem. I love the grossest candy ever. Try switching to sugar free - it's better for you, and it has the added bonus of tasting relatively gross, so you end up not wanting it as much. I can usually find it in CVS at the end of the big candy aisle that's by most checkouts.

    Hi. Are you still trackin your food? Sounds like you are. Okay, you have to instill discipline back into your routine. Keeping in line w/the carbs is an important part of keeping on track. What's causing this sudden crave for sugar, do you know? You may have to do some soul searching to understand your behaviors. Only you know the reasons why. To keep control for now, try measuring out "serving size" portions & put the rest away & out of reach. At least you can still have your sugar sweets...& eat it too! Good luck & keep Sparkin!

I have progressed from a beginner's spin class to the Spinning Fitness class. OMG, WHAT A WORKOUT.
The lady that teaches this class is a tri-athlete, distance runner and active duty soldier.(I workout at a gym on Ft Hood, army base) The class is called spinning fitness because it incorporates hand weights, ab work and other cardio, with the spinning. It is 60 minutes of constant high intensity, up-beat, totally motivating torture. It is also the most fun I've had in a workout class in a long time. We ride the bikes for a while, get off and do 1-2 laps around the indoor track, drop and do sit-ups and push-ups, get back on the bikes, ride some more, do upper body exercises with the weights, while riding, ride, ride, do more laps, sit-ups, push-ups or what ever other exercises she thinks of. By the time we start to cool down, after about 55 minutes, I am totally soaked from head to toe. This class is so invigorating. The instructor says the calorie burn is in the 1000-1200 range. I believe it. emoticon

    OMG! If I had the ability to add Bold, Italics and Underline, I certainly would! That sounds like torture to me! I am sure the instructor is a retired Sargent or someone equally committed to making lives miserable! I admire all of our guys and gals who go through that torture, but I don't aim to be one of them! I am amazed that you are hanging in there and sounds like you are lovin' it to boot! WOW! We do have a lot in common but I think it stops at the door to your Spinning class!

I left Hoffman Estates in 1970, so I'm not sure your apartment complex was even there at that time. I am a proud member of the first graduating class of James B Conant HS. It is now a very old school! We'll be having our 45th Reunion next year and I plan on attending the festivities. Always great to go back there and enjoy all that wonderful food I grew up on. The key is moderation in all things. I have till next summer to work on that virtue!

I remember when I was there in the 60's you had to drive quite a ways down Golf road to get to Elgin. I was stunned when I was back there almost 20 years ago and just for fun, we were looking at model homes in Hoffman. I looked up and there was a water tower with the name "Elgin" emblazoned on the side. I believe it was just a matter of crossing the road and you changed municipalities. The sprawl was amazing. Both of my sisters have moved from the area so the only time I get back there any more is for the reunions. One of these days I'll take a vacation and revisit all the great places Chicago has to offer and go as a tourist. I imagine I'd have a ball!

    What a class! It's great that you enjoy it so. I have to admit I feel worn out just reading about it but I've never thought of trying Spinning, so maybe it's one to consider.

new cardio class

I have recently added "spinning " to my cardio repertoire. I have known about spinning for years, but was never interested. Step aerobics, preferably double step, was my favorite cardio class. But, I can't find a aerobics class. So, I tried spinning, and guess what? I LIKE IT!!! I've only been doing it for a week & a half now, but, so far, so good. It's a great way to work up a sweat and burn a lot of calories.

Trip to San Antonio

Today, a friend is taking me to San Antonio, sightseeing. I am soooo excited! I have been in Killeen/Ft Hood, Tx for 16 months, now and I have been only as far as Dallas/ Ft Worth Airport to the north and Austin to the south. The airport is about 3 hours away and Austin is about an hour away.
San Antonio is supposed to be really pretty, with lots of places of interest. My friend said to wear good walking shoes. I should probably wear my nikes, but it's so darn hot, here, I'm leaning toward flip flops. I'm going to try to use the pedometer function on my new iPod, see if I can log some extra cardio for this week.
I'm taking my camera with me, so maybe I will have some pictures to post on my spark page.

I'm behind in my july fitness minutes

On Monday I had to cut my workout time about 1 hour short, because of some other things I needed to do that day. Yesterday, Wednesday, I couldn't workout because I went with my son to, what was, essentially, a company picnic, for his military police unit. We were out in the 95 degree heat all afternoon. Usually, when I miss my regular workout day, I go the next day. But, I can't workout tomorrow, either. At 9am, tomorrow morning, I have to be at Ft Hood(again in the 90-some degree heat) for his battalion's Change of Command ceremony. Hopefully, Friday, I will get back to the gym. I will probably go on Saturday, also, to try to make up one of those missed days.
Of course, I have also gotten off track with my nutrition program this week, too. Picnic food, Wednesday, munchy-type stuff and desserts, tomorrow. By Friday, I'm gonna have some serious "getting back on track" to do.

    We all get behind sometimes so I know how you feel. Don't worry too much about making it up to keep from overdoing it. Just focus on staying on track from here on out as much as possible. Add in where you can, like jogging from your car (which should be parked as far away as possible) to the building or park. You are doing great!!
