Why I hate Jumping

Friday, May 23, 2014

Most of the workouts I look at have some form of jumping (jumping jacks, jump rope, etc.). I really do hate jumping. After much thought I have realized that it is due to the following reasons:
#1 I have very long hair (way below my waist) and if it is down it keeps hitting my back almost like a whip lash. If I put it up in a bun, the bun keeps falling down and I have to pause to put it back in.
#2 My knees keep hurting (although, I am only 20) and it takes quite a while to catch my breath.
#3 My chest keeps bouncing and it hurts which is not so much fun.

I would love to jump rope though, but I did not know if I should do it. I have overcome #2 by wearing good shoes by Adidas which cushion my jump and I jump on my mat which helps the cause even more.
As for the other two, I have no clue what to do. I will try to solve this problem because I read somewhere that plyometrics burn a lot of calories.

Thank you guys for your suggestions. A good sports bra is exactly what I need. I am gonna buy it as soon as possible (being a student makes it hard, but it's a one time investment for a six month span! So I think I will).

I will try the hair ideas to keep it off my back!

Yeah, I have knee and back problems, and have to be careful about jumping. There are low-impact cardio classes and low-impact videos (you can find them on Spark); I usually walk, swim, or dance for cardio so I can avoid jumping.

With your hair, you can always braid it and then fold the braid up to attach it - it's still going to be long, but at least half the length.

Last - sounds like maybe a good sports bra is in order?

My knees can be like that too when I jump so I have to barely leave the floor. And jumping jacks I have to keep small as well. I also have to have a completely empty bladder when I start jumping. emoticon
Maybe you can put your hair in a braid and then pull the ends up and secure it with pins so that your braid/pony tail is not so long?
Get a good bra girl! I am a cheapskate but bought a $45 bra from Moving Comfort (Fiona is the style name I got) and it is worth every penny. Won't workout without it. I wash or rinse it in the washing machine after every workout. (The instructions say you could wash it every other workout) And I put it in the dryer. It has never worn out. I'm on my 3rd one (because I've gotten smaller and once a year I'll get a new one). I rationalized the money spent by asking myself...If I paid $1 each workout to wear a bra that keeps me contained and pain-free, would it be worth it? This bra paid for itself by the 2nd month. And I have them for a year or more!

I have long hair too...I put mine in pigtails. As far as the boob issue....Find a really good athletic will NOT find this at Walmart or Target. Go to a athletic store and try them on. I wear one, one cup smaller to stop the bouncing. Keep in mind a good bra is very important whether you are exercising or not. Don't be cheap!! Hand wash as well. I think my last exercise bra was $35. but well worth it.

Maybe putting your hair up in a ponytail bun and putting on a scarf like I do will help.

My Taebo concerns...

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

I discovered Taebo two years back. Since then, I keep doing it every now and then. I lost some 7 pounds when I first started it. Hurrah! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Now, I do feel great after I do Taebo but I stopped losing weight. Maybe, I was getting better in endurance. I levelled up and tried the next level. Now, that is getting easy too. But, I can't push myself beyond 35 minutes span which includes two lower body, two upper body and two ab circuits. There is a total body circuit after these, which involves two of these groups in each exercise of the circuit. emoticon
I should probably do it with a break in the middle. The thing is that, my abs are sore after the last circuit in the 35 minute span. emoticon
I do Inferno DVD once a week. I am sore after it though. emoticon
I hope I do get fitter before I attend Grad school which is only a month away. Wish me good luck.
Also, do work on your goals. Don't lose hope. We are in this together. Let's kick that fat in its butt. emoticon

GOOD LUCK is definitely wished for you. Keep working out and changing your workouts around never hurts. Helps you work on new muscle groups or combinations. Make sure you're drinking plenty of WATER!

Getting fit in May with Jessica Smith

Friday, May 02, 2014

Last week I got a 'Get fit in May' workout plan from Jessica Smith and I was sooo excited. I already tried her Hourglass workout plan for some 10 days and I had to break the streak due to some problems at uni and finals.
So, I do know her plans are great and all. So, today I finished my Day-6 and tomorrow is stretching routine. It goes like this:

Day 1: Total Body in 10 emoticon
It's a great total body toner and believe me every muscle you have will ache.
Day 2: 30-Minute Power Interval Walk emoticon
It is a POWER walk and I felt like I had a great workout despite it being low impact which is good news for people who hate jumping.
Day 3: 40-Minute Superset Sculpt emoticon
This workout again focuses on strength training. And the 40 minutes are like a bomb leaving me sore at the end.
Day 4: 30-Minute Cardio Core Fusion Flow emoticon
This is a flowy workout just like the name says. I used some washcloths and all you will have to do is slide in various motions. It is amazing. Made me feel like a ballerina.
Day 5: 20-Minute Single Sided Strength emoticon
So another strength training that is not BLAH.
Day 6: 25-Minute Cardio Boot Camp Boogie emoticon
In her words: "Don't let the name scare you." It is a fun video and left me dripping after.
Day 7: 30-Minute Stretch, Rest and Relax emoticon
Yet to try.

The amazing thing about all these workouts is that they are free on her youtube channel which can be found at:

After doing these workouts for a week I have lost a pound but don't get me wrong because I had to attend a few dinners and ate some fatty foods which blew it. I am not gonna stop though. I will try all 31 workouts and have lots of fun. Hope you will give it a shot too.

Baby steps - 3

Thursday, February 27, 2014

So I did that Jillian Michaels video today! emoticon
It was exhilarating! Phew!
Though, not very tough, thanks to all the Taebo I do. I was breathless half way through. I took a 2- minute break and went at it again. emoticon
I was able to finish it and I am content now. I was scared I probably won't do it and fail myself again but I pushed myself to do at least 10 minutes, once I started, I wanted to finish it. So ye, YAY me! emoticon

Baby steps - 2

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

So, yesterday's Taebo made me very tired. Also, I had to walk so much around the campus to get some stuff done. It was tiresome too. But, we gulped sugarcane juice at the end of it. So, it was bearable. emoticon
In the evening, dad showed up with so much snacks and fruit. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon It was all mouth watering. But, I had to keep it down since I could not squeeze in any powerful workouts. I managed to eat some and shoved the rest of it away.
I am planning on protein filled dinner. My cold seems to have subsided. I have cough and some irritation in my throat but I hope it will be gone by tomorrow.
So for today's workout, I planned a Stretching routine lasting for some 10 minutes and some abs workouts as strength training for that part.
