Cancelling my Gym Membership

That's right. I am cancelling my gym membership today! I feel that I can lead a very active lifestyle without having to go to the gym. It is so expensive and I find that doing it at my own pace in the comfort of my home just makes it easier for me. Lately, I have been having a very busy work schedule so I haven't had time to come home, pack for the gym and then go to the gym.

I will be focusing on..

*Taking my dog for a walk
*jogging
*biking
*home video workouts (provided from SparkPeople.com!)
*healthy eating

    You can totally do it. I have thought about cancelling my gym membership but they have great classes and it's very affordable so I kept it. Also, since I'm on the second floor, I have to go to the gym on Sats so as not to disturb my neighbors with all the jumping and running around I do when they aren't there during the week:)

    You can do this! Hand weights, exercise DVD's, and home equipment are affordable when you think how much you spend for a gym membership. It's all what works for you! Hang in there.

Body Flow

There is a class at my gym (Goodlife) that is called Body Flow. It offers both yoga and tai chi in one combo! I had taken this class once before (about 2 years ago or so) but I never really took a liking to it. I think I wasn't in the right frame of mind that day. So instead of trying it out again, I forgot about it. Then, a friend told me about how yoga truly makes a difference in her day. She told me that for just that hour class, all she has to do is focus on her breathing and not worry about anything else that is happening in her life. I really liked the idea of this! Sometimes life can drag you down...the idea of going to the gym where you can just leave your troubles at the door and find inner peace is fantastic.

So, today I went into the class with an open mind. Just because I hadn't enjoyed it before didn't mean I couldn't find true meaningfulness with it today! The movements were very different than what I am accustomed to (I'm used to dancing or doing upbeat aerobics classes) but once I found my "flow" I was able to really enjoy the movements and focus on my breathing.

At the end of class, the instructor had us relax and meditate for a while. This was so incredible! The soft piano playing in the background combined with the dimmed lighting made it so calming...I almost forgot that just outside the door, was an entire gym filled with people. I was so far from where everybody else was!

I am definitely going to go back to this class at least once a week. Afterwards, I felt extremely calm, inspired and ready to tackle the rest of my day. Also, because I am not trying to lose any weight, this class was perfect for strength training which actually helps to build muscle (therefore adding weight!) It is a good choice all around.

Anyway...I encourage each of you reading this to try a yoga class! You will feel so connected to yourself and will be wanting more. Good luck!

To Bike or Not to Bike? That is the question...

Okay so I am in the process of trying to gain weight -- but I was really excited about doing the MS Bike Tour this summer where I bike a grand total of 160km in two days. I'm wondering if this is a good idea for me to train for since I am extremely thin! I have done this tour two summers ago and it was one of the greatest, most REWARDING experiences of my entire life. I really want to get there again!
