September 9: Day 5 of the 10+ Minute Fitness Challenge

Saturday, September 10, 2011

Today's Fitness
I did 10 minutes of fitness yesterday (Sept. 9)

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight was running out of time, but still getting the 10 minutes in. I went outside and bounced on the mini-trampoline in the dark. It was fun hearing the grasshoppers chirping at night while bouncing and working towards my goals.

I also went to an acupuncturist yesterday for help with my allergies. I really liked him and will keep trying this and let everyone know what I think over time.

Here's a fun one for the start of football season!

LIVIN_THE_LIFE has just submitted a new topic.

Title: The SP Difference

Message: Want to know how I know I am different than I was last year?

I''m sitting here watching college football, without a beer, or a pizza.
AND when my game got delayed by a half hour I thought, "awesome, I''m
heading to the gym" ... AND I went and got in a half hour workout. The
other half will still be done after my game. Woot woot!

My highlight today was completing Day 3 of Week 1 of training for the upcoming virtual 5K. Yesterday, after completing Day 2, my back was killing me. Today, I was more exhausted than anything else. But now, as I'm about to turn in for the evening, I feel such a sense of gratification that I pushed through what I thought was going to be impossible today. AND my back feels like it's loosened up nicely.

I guess I can count this training towards the 10-minutes-a-day challenge as well, right?

:) SparkPeople always pulls me through...

My highlight...way more than 10 minutes today - one that I NEVER would have imagined and would never have even dreamed before Sparkpeople. I ran the Chicago half-marathon....and though I have lots of room for improvement, Spark has taught me to just keep taking those baby steps forward and I'll have another chance to improve on my fitness goals in my next half...just six weeks from now! THANKS SPARK PEOPLE!

I use the mini-tramp for at least 10 minutes first thing in the morning to get my metabolism going, then add a Coach Nicole video workout. This gives me a confidence boost: I have started the day off healthily. Next up: a high protein breakfast (after I take a fasting blood glucose level) to help stabilize my blood sugar. I am able to keep much better control of my blood sugars by taking several readings a day and do not need to use medication for mt Tpe 2 diabetes.

September 8: Day 4 of the 10+ Minute Fitness Challenge

Today's Fitness
I did 20 minutes of fitness yesterday (Sept. 8)

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight was some great "natural fitness". I was a little bit late and a little bit lost for a speaking event at a major health care conference where I got to present SparkPeople to some important people in the health care category. So, that meant 20 minutes of jogging/running to make the event on time! I'll take it. I made it and got to share some fun things about SP in front of 200 people as part of a panel.

Afterwards, several people wanted to talk about partnering in some way. Woohoo!

Good for you on your fitness minutes the other day and hopefully SparkPeople can pick up some partners.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to share in this adventure with so many other people.

I'm thankful that you took it upon yourself to make SP a place for anybody to come a learn how to get healthy, not just to lose weight, but to learn about healthy living and how to make it happen. I have made so many friends here and even though I may never actually meet most of them, I feel a camaraderie that I have never felt anywhere else.

Thank you so much.

I danced tonight for 20 minutes after I got home from running errands and dinner. Just because I have a streak going and didn't want to quit. I also did 30/30/30/30 for wall push ups, seated leg lifts, calf raises and squats. I never thought I'd be the one to insist on exercise after a full day at work and errands.

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight was – believe it or not – taking out the garbage. I have to take our garbage cans up a big hill and it's a great workout. Since I've been doing a lot of lunges lately, I can tell my legs are getting stronger which is making this a bit easier. Woohoo!

It would create two "communities" ... but already there ARE two "communities" ... those who can devote much time to the site: commenting on blog posts, pages, message boards, teams, articles, etc. ... and those who can't ...

It would probably be cheaper and more cost-effective per month, as well, than the most well-known nutrition cum body-building sites out there .. with added bells and whistles ...

I love the level of articulateness/literacy of most of the commenters here ... reminds me of what iVillage USED to be ... that's why I'm still here ...

I love the Sparkpeople Live! Meetings. I enjoy getting to see fellow Sparkpeople members face to face and connecting on a more personable level. I guess when you're able to talk like you do to friend, to someone who's going through the same struggles on their journey just gives you the comfort and support that you need. Friendships are formed and they are continued back here on the teams & Sparkpages!

I love that classes give the participant the option to be on camera & chat themselves or if they'd prefer they can just type in the chat box without ever feeling like they're being ignored. The meetings are very interactive and very informative!

I think this is just the greatest concept that Sparkpeople has come up with and I am honored to be one of the leaders for the Live! Meetings!! I also love that the rest of Sparkpeople will not change and this is just a bonus!!

Thank you!!

My concern is that with so many people belonging to Spark - how will anyone get personalized feedback? Also - is this a 24/7 thing or are meetings set for specific times of the day?

I used to do Weight Watchers and the meetings were always dominated by a certain few individuals that held the shy folks back from speaking. The $12.99 a month is reasonable (for me, anyway, less than $1.oo per day) but I think I'll wait.

I joined the Weight Watchers on-line site for 3 months for around $50 (no live support, meetings cost more - $50 just for online tools comparable to SP). When I didn't renew, I told them it was too expensive for what I could get for free on Spark People. I love your website and think it's amazing that you can offer all of these tools for free. To add live support for those who need it at $12/mo. doesn't seem that expensive. I may consider this feature in the future as I have yet to feel a personal connection through teams and blogs.

Maybe in the future I will be able to use this feature. Right now, money is tight and the income I have is small so I can't afford it. Sounds like a great idea though.

Great idea!!! Spark offers so much support and info at no cost that I think asking a nominal fee for such a personalized service is perfectly reasonable!!

I love the idea and would love to have been apart of it; however, $12.99 a month is not going to happen. I certainly could have used the extra boost of motivation since I'm struggling now to stay focused.

The cost of the book was a 'one-off,' one I could (not necessarily easily) afford. But I'm afraid $12.99 / month is an awful lot of money, at least at my house. I hope Spark does indeed remain free, without even a minimal charge, let alone something like this - which comes to nearly $156.00 / year.

I'm not trying to run-down a good idea, and for those who can afford it, I say go for it. I feel bad that I can't be supportive of it, at least not in today's economy. And as some other Sparkers have said, I wouldn't put my CC# on it only to risk missing the termination date and end up being charged.

Sorry.

Good idea. I know living in a large city, it isn't always easy to get to and from a meeting, especially when you have small children. I have to agree with one of the above posts that it is too bad that you have to have a credit card to have your week free. Couldn't your pilot allow the small amount of people that were emailed this news to have a cut off date of seven days from the day they first sign on?! Because I know that I am really bad about terminating, not use it, be billed, and wonder where my money went. Great idea though.

As noted in the blog, everything that is already free, will remain free, this is completely new and optional!

We know it won't be everyone, but we also know that some people are going to love it, and for them, it will be that extra boost they need!

SparkCheers!
Tim

I think it makes sense to offer something like this. Glad, of course, that SP is free because I KNOW I wouldn't have given this site a chance if there would have been a charge to use the basic services. But, now that I'm comfortable here and Sparking away I like the fact that I have the option of a more visual, verbal, motivational division to use for a small charge. I may consider taking a look at it this winter (when I always need a motivational boost!)
