September 6: Day 2 of the 10+ Minute Fitness Challenge

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Today's Fitness
I did 15 minutes of fitness yesterday (Sept. 6)

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight was actually a "lowlight" – as I was doing sprints yesterday and a bee stung me on the hand! I'm not sure if the bee was trying to motivate me to go faster or what, but I can do without that type of motivation!

Member Highlight
Here's a great post from today!

Title: Breakthrough Mindset

Message: It was really cold and rainy the other day when hubby and I went grocery shopping, and since our Kroger has a Starbucks in it, we decided before we left the house that we were going to get some coffee to sip while we shopped (score 1 pt for making conscious decisions!). We got on the website and each picked out a drink from their "under 200 calorie" so we''d know what to order when we got there (score 1 pt for planning ahead!).

When we got there we ordered our awesome low fat drinks and I take a sip of mine...delicious... but I forgot to ask for no whip!!! I lamented this to my husband and got ready to take another sip because, well, I wanted it. I ordered it. I paid for it.

And then it hit me. I don''t have to eat anything I don''t want to. I didn''t WANT the whipped cream, I wasn''t going to eat it! I got a spoon from the barista and proceeded to scoop my whipped cream right into the trash before enjoying my drink. (score 1 pt for making a good decision in a pinch!).

May not seem like much, but I was pretty happy about it. Just those three choices saved me about 400 calories!

How was your day? Did you get at least 10 minutes of fitness? What's your highlight?

I spent 60 minutes working in the garden to harvest as many vegetables as I could before dark. I set my boxes down, picked the tomatoes and walked back and forth with each handful. Sure, I could have kept the box by my side but I combined harvesting and taking lots of extra steps.

Yes, I got at least 10 minutes. And my highlight isn't about the exercise, it is about the warmth and loveliness of people who are developmentally delayed. I spoke with a number of them today while waiting for medical appointments today.

September 5: Day 1 of the 10+ Minute Fitness Challenge

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

Today's Fitness
I did 65 minutes of fitness yesterday (Sept. 5)

Today's Highlights
Ok, I'm back! Let's try this again. I can't remember if I told everyone, but I had a neck injury earlier this summer that I still hadn't recovered from that was zapping my energy so I fell off from blogging. But, I think I'm about back to normal and ready to go.

I figured Labor Day was as good a day as any to start another streak!

Yesterday's highlight was swimming with the boys in the pool again. They still like it when I let them ride on my back while swimming a few laps.

How was your day? Did you get at least 10 minutes of fitness? What's your highlight?

Hope you are well now--take care though--things can resurface. I did a 60 min. "yoga" workout on Tues. Could hardly walk on Wed.--thighs so sore, but thought I better keep going so did a 75 min dog walk Wed. Went again Thurs for another 60 min of "yoga". Feel better today. Maybe 60 min of p;ar 3 golf today.
I am so excited to be able to walk. Hasn't helped my weight much but I am mobile--was in a wheel chair 2 years ago and told by neurosurgeon that I would only get worse and never walk again. emoticon

All sorts of things conspired against me this AM. Instead of my normal 65 minute walk I only got in 20 minutes (discovered that I was the one who had to wait for some appliances to be delivered!) But I'm going out at noon to make up the missing time. And that's because of good old SparkPeople helping me stay accountable to ME!

Great SparkPeople Story in The Irish Times!

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

Hi Everyone

I'm happy to share an exciting media story that ran today. SparkPeople was featured in a newspaper story in the largest paper in Ireland today -- The Irish Times. I had fun being interviewed for this story (my great-grandmother was born in Ireland).

We were even able to connect the reporter to a SparkPeople success story who lives in Ireland (the reporter was surprised we had success stories in Ireland!).

I wish I could post the print version of the story -- the pictures are huge and look great, but the online version is strong as well.

Here's the story:
www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/health/2011/0906/1224303568382.html

Thanks a bunch to Wes -- the SP member featured in the story -- here's his SparkPage:

Introducing More (and Easier) 'Progress Ticker' Options

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

SparkPeople has long offered customizable weight loss tickers, which members can choose to display at the bottom of their SparkPages and message board posts to share their progress.

In the past, you could only display a ticker if you also had a SparkPage, and "weight loss" and "weight maintenance" were the only types of progress you could share.

Thanks to great member suggestions, today we have updated these progress tickers so that any member (with or without a SparkPage) can create and display them on their message board posts. We also added nine more ways to share progress toward your goals that aren't about your weight, including:

  • SparkPoints earned
  • Monthly fitness minutes
  • Countdown (days) until a special event
  • Number of days you've given up a bad habit (like smoking)
  • Inches lost
  • Body fat percentage
  • And more!

Now you can edit and set your Ticker preferences anytime from this page. In the future, you can find it in under the "Community" tab of your account/email preferences page. And even simpler, anytime you actually SEE one of your own message board posts, you'll see a little "Edit" button that also brings you to this page (if you have a ticker) or a prompt to add one (if you don't have one displayed).

We hope you enjoy using these new Ticker options to share your progress with others in our Community.

SparkCheers!

I am having serious problems with my ticker. LOL I have always enjoyed seeing the little thing in my signature box. I went in and changed it when I first noticed that there was a way to edit it from a thread posting. I thought "cool, I'll make it show the inches for this challenge I am on". Then it would show no change no matter what measurements I put in or the changes. So I decided to put it back to pounds lost. Then it was showing 180 inches lost not that I weighed 180 pounds. I tried over and over, making changes. Still it would not change. So I removed it from showing on my page. Now I have tried several days to just hav it showing again. But it errors out and says that I am not putting in the correct information. I am repostin my start weight and my goal weight, but it still will not post my ticker. Please help. Thanks!

I would like to track distance in swimming. You have trackers for distance on land. But the ratios are drastically different. I track my distance swimming on the mileage tracker, but there is no option to select swimming so I end up putting it in the notes. Any chance that the fitness tabs could have distance option for swimmers?

I love so many things about Spark! Thanks for all the other ways to track things. I am building consistency in so many areas because I have an easy way to track it.

Love the idea but wish I could track more than one goal. Any chance we could do several different tracks ?

The vote box takes a while to load for me.

Also, sometimes it claims I have already voted that day when I hadn't.

  I just voted.

I couldn't see the vote button when I logged in from work but now at home I can see it..perhaps because my laptop screen is wider.

The vote button is way over on the top right on your screen, try scrolling over.

Good luck Coach Nicole!!!

Seeing that happy, healthy, beautiful face on a billboard ANYWHERE would make me check out Spark.

The face that launched a million more Spark members!

Where's the "vote" button?! I'm not interested in signing up on yet another program, so, if that's what's required, I am really bummed!

I will look for her DVD at Target - just in time for a Christmas present to myself (if it's not too expensive!)
