NYC - 29 miles and a canoli...

Since I have to work all Thanksgiving weekend, my husband and I decided to have a little mini-holiday in NYC this week. We lived there for 7 years in our 20s, and I still miss it sometimes, although I would never give up living in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia now. Our main goals for the 3 days were to walk everywhere, see friends and enjoy the excitement of the city.

We lucked out on getting a "workout room" in the hotel that we staying at. Has anyone ever heard of that before? It was a regular hotel room at the Westin, but in addition to comfy beds it had a spin cycle, spinning DVDs, yoga mat, free weights, medicine ball, stability ball and health magazines...Isn't that great! Yes, I used them. It was my first time using a spin cycle but I managed to get quite a sweat up working out along with the video.

And then there was the walking! 29 miles of walking in 3 days. We walked everywhere! To heck with cabs and subways, we decided that there wasn't anywhere in Manhattan that we couldn't walk to. What a great way to see the city and see how different neighborhoods have changed since we lived there 12 years ago. Especially enjoyed walking through Central park on a crisp Autumn day.

The food was also fantastic. Went to a wonderful Ethiopian restaurant in midtown and had a perfect meal with spiced tea. When we were in the Village we stopped in a coffee bar that we used to go to and shared a canoli, something that we really enjoyed when we lived there.

The rest of the time we spent seeing friends, shopping and one night out at a off-Broadway musical (Avenue Q). All in all, a fantastic 3 day weekend!

Week 17: 4 lbs and 1.5 inches

Jumping up and down excited!
I worked so hard the past two weeks to try to get to the 50 lb marker and today passed it! I think the combination of positive attitude, healthy food choices and daily exercise continues to help me stay on track. Would like to get another 10 lbs off before the end of the year which I think is an achievable goal. This week for Thanksgiving I am grateful to all of you who read my blog, give me goodies, and cheer me on. It makes all of the difference! Love you!

Week 16: 2 lbs & 3.25 inches

Happy to say that the loss keeps coming! Very happy with 2lbs after the big loss last week. Another kind of interesting thing happened today. When I first started this journey at the end of July, I HOPED to get to 239 by Christmas...it was the farthest goal I could hope for. And if I am truthful I did not think I would make it that long or lose that much...yet here I am, 6 weeks early - 239 lbs today. Sometimes you get to win a few in life

Hiking on a perfect November day!

I am going to try to take advantage of every warm day I can to get outside and enjoy the sun! Today two of my friends and I had the perfect day.

We started the day with a ride into Pennsylvania to go hiking in one of the parks there. It is nice to see some new scenery for a chance. Beautiful day to scamper down to the waterfalls and take a few pics!

Hiked a little more than 3 miles then headed out since we had 1pm massage appointments at a local spa. Love the relaxation of a deep tissue massage. I feel like a new person! Relaxed in the spa for several hours soaking up the ambience and drinking cucumber water. For dinner we head out to a historic home and ate (mostly) healthy things until we were perfectly content.

So happy for days like these!

You need to relax once in a while,I am jealous of the spa I wish I could go too.
The scenery looks awesome,Im kind of tired of it here too,but I have my route all planned out for the winter.Ill look at x-MAS LIGHTS for now.

30 Mile Bike Ride!

Ron and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful sunny weather today and hit the bike trail. We are fortunate to live in a place with 70 miles of rail-trail systems.



We decided to take the Decker's Creek trail. I have biked this trail before but given the uphill grade have never made it past the 8 mile marker. My goal today was to make it to the 10 mile marker. As you can see in the picture below there is significant elevation gain on the trail.



I am ecstatic to say that when we hit the 10 mile marker (without stopping) I wasn't tired, so we kept going. By the time we hit the 15 mile marker, our bums were sore so we decided to turn around.



On the way home we stopped to take a few pictures of the coke ovens, the creek itself and us enjoying the day





It was so great to get outside today. The stationary bike at home just doesn't give the sense of accomplishment that getting out there does. I also love that I made it farther than I thought possible. 30 miles & 1750 foot elevation gain!

    WOW!! What a great accomplishment! And what a fun way to exercise. It's been a LONG time since my husband and I cycled for fun. We used to go to a bunch of bicycle festivals - before the kids - but even in my younger days, we would do 10 mile rides at the most. And living in South Florida, we NEVER had to worry about elevation, so when we rode in Central Florida - the hills were killer for us. Your progress is inspiring! Keep on doing what you are doing. It's really working for you.

    I did a thirty mile bike ride on the rail trails around the Twin Cities Metro area in September, and I loved it. The only problem was that I could no longer feel my butt when I was done, and began to wonder if it was still attached.

(I may need a better bike seat.)
