Week 14 & 15: 8.5 lbs & 4.75 inches - with pics!

Monday, November 09, 2009

I realized I forgot to post last week's loss, so I am posting the two together. Last week was 3.5 lbs and this week was 5! That is my biggest loss since my very first week on the Spark when I lost 6.5 lbs. Before I get too excited though, I should mention that I saw my doctor and my thyroid hormone is "all out of whack." I had thyroid cancer 3 years ago and had a total thryoidectomy, so I am completely dependent on replacement hormones (synthroid/T4)) for metabolism. My TSH was in the normal range when I started this journey, but is now completely suppressed, probably because of the weight loss. What does all this mean? It means that the medication probably has caused me to lose more than usual, and it means that I need to lower my dose or I am going to get very sick. Bummer...So I adjusted my dose and will get the numbers checked again in about 6 weeks. Not a huge deal, I knew this would happen eventually. Everyone losing weight on synthroid needs medication adjustments as they lose weight.

Regardless - I will not look a gift horse in the mouth! I am very excited about the loss

Picture of me November 5, 2009 ~ 242 lbs It is nice to see my face going back to it's normal shape. Compare to pic from the beginning:

Amazing what a difference 45 lbs makes!

    Nice job. You look beautiful!

My best friend had a thyroidectomy, and he is starting to gain weight. It worries me. It is good to see that the tide can be turned. Thanks for being an inspiration!

I too have to take meds for my thyroid I'm on armour I use to be on synthroid but decided to try armour and I have had good luck with it and better weightloss I believe! You are very right with weightloss come the dose change and I too am on the verge of mine being lowered and kind of makes me nervous but I have done well so far so probably shouldn't worry to much! I have an apt to have my checked in about 2wks so I know if I'm real close to the 229 I'm sure I will be changed. My Dr. keeps my #'s low and seems to work well for me but I believe they are getting a little to border line but I guess I will find out soon! Keep up with you positive vibe you are doing awsome and just keep up with whats working for you now and you should be fine when the dr does your change!

Hiking at Snake Hill

Sunday, November 08, 2009

It was so beautiful in West Virginia today! Sunny and 70 degrees - not bad for the first week of November. Ron and I decided to grab our camelbacks and hiking boots and get hiking. We went to Snake Hill Wildlife Preserve and headed out. The highlight of the trip was probably the overlook that we found at the end of one of the trails.

The trails were nice and wide and I think that it will be a nice place to go snowshoe'in when it snows. I finally ordered my snowshoes last night on line. I also got trekking poles and a winterized camelback so as soon as it snows I should be good to go!

By the way, this is me at 242...the week has been good to me!

Looking good! One thing about camelbacks in the cold weather. I know some have a cover on the tube. However if you find that have problems with the water freezing in the tube after you take your drink, blow the water back into the bag. The only problem with this it your bag will fill up with some air. So we only do this if we are in freezing weather, and if the water in the tube seems to be freezing.

My husband has been on skipatrol for about 7 years, this is why I'm full of all kinds of winter safty advice. emoticon

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. In addition to being my birthday, it is just fantastically fun to see adults and children get dressed up. Every year we have a big bash at my house and this year was no exception. Hope you enjoy the photo blog!

This is a picture of my Haunted House from the front!

Front Graveyard (yes, there is a back graveyard as well)

Walkway to the front (image smoke machines & scary music)

Back graveyard

Me as Medusa frozen to stone by her own reflection!

Ron and me as Perseus and Medusa, except in our story he doesn't cut her head off!

Spooky Dining Room scene!

A sampling of the party-goers

Happy Halloween everyone!

100 Day Challenge Team

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Ever wonder how much you could accomplish in 100 days? I found out and was so inspired by the response to my blog about it earlier this week that I have decided to create a team. The 100 Day Challenge Team was built to help people focus on daily exercise as a priority in their life and to create a support system for those of us that are working hard together. Please stop by the team page

Woo-hoo! 100 more days, here we come!

100 Days of Exercise!

Sunday, November 01, 2009

So today is a day for celebrating and doing the happy dance!
I did what I thought I couldn't do...I kept up an exercise streak for 100 consecutive days. How did this happen? I finally got honest with myself. I tried to do 5 out of 7 days all spring and I found that I always had excuses and wanted it to be one of the two "off' days. Hence most weeks I only exercised 2-3 days instead of the intended 5. When I started Sparking I challenged myself: "How long can you go without missing a day?" My goal was 2 weeks, then a month, then 50 days...then suddenly I realized I could do it...now it has been 100 days. Don't worry, although I am type A, I actually don't feel obsessive about this. I know if I miss a day it is no big deal - I just want it to be a good excuse (as opposed to my old ones: "it's too cold out;" "I'm too tired;" "I don't feel like exercising today.") Now when I have those thoughts I think: "too bad, get your butt on the treadmill (or stepper, or bike, or elliptical...)

So what can one do in 100 days?
Here is what I did:

Walking outside: 44.4 hours
Cycling: 5.3 hours
Hiking: 18.8 hours
Dance: 1.7 hours
WiiFit: .6 hours
Yoga: 2.3 hours
Elliptical 2.0 hours
Stepper 6.3 hours
Treadmill 32.4 hours
Stationary Bike 31.5 hours
TOTAL: 145.2 hours

So there it is: the first hundred days. I continue to be curious how long this will go for. Wish me luck!

This is me on July 25, 2009 - 286 lbs

Pic of me today, November 1, 2009 - 246 lbs

40lbs lighter than 100 days ago

Definitely doing the happy dance - does that count as exercise?

That's an amazing achievement, congratulations!
I would also like to thank you so much for this post! This was exactly what I needed to read and what I turned my computer on to look for. Yesterday evening, on the 5th day within my calorie range, at 10 pm I broke down and ate a thousand calories, because the food WAS THERE. I have it so bad with food that I cannot keep anything at the house (I live alone) but my Mom was visiting and she left me some soy burgers and eggs, healthy stuff that I though would be safe. Well it wasn't.
Today I woke up feeling like I had lost everything I achieved this past week but on the other hand really wanting to keep exercising and keep on track. I jst needed strong motivation.
And here it was, thanks soooo much!!!:-)

Btw you look gorgeous!

ps ha! I wanted to write it under your latest post, the 200 days one originally, but then went to this link, and here it ended;-) I am at the very beginning of my exercise journey and this 100 day post inspires me even more at the moment.
Hugs, flysohigh
