Guess what I found today...

Thursday, October 29, 2009

So I was looking in the mirror today, and I saw my collarbones. I am certain that they were not there yesterday and since I haven't seen them in quite awhile I was very excited to see them. Welcome back clavicles!

I can't tell you how happy this makes me...They were one of my favorite features before I unexpectedly lost them.

Week 13: 1.5 lbs & 1.5 inches

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Whoops - I meant to enter this a few days ago, but got busy. I know these are relatively boring blogs but it makes me feel good to see the weekly progress. My big goal for October was to get under 250 by October 31st, which is my 39th birthday. The scale actually says 248 today, so I am hollering out "WHOO-HOO!"

I talked to my husband today about what should be my next short term goal. I am not particulary excited about any particular number coming up (onederland is still SO far away) so I think that I will work toward my 50 lb mark - which is another 12 lbs away, so that should keep me busy for awhile.

First Yoga Class

Friday, October 23, 2009

I went to my first yoga class today and I was really surprised. I have always wanted to try yoga but when I was younger I thought my time was best spent doing all cardio. As I have matured, I realize that trying new things and actively controlling my stress levels is important so when one of my work colleagues invited me to go, I thought why not..

The atmosphere was very relaxed and once I stopped worrying about whether or not I would be able to do the poses (I was able to) I was able to calm my mind. The teacher was very helpful in making sure my posture was correct and said that I am hyperflexible (who knew?) After a minute in the downward dog pose I actually was sweating, so maybe I got a little workout too. I loved the end of the class where you relax every muscle in your body and just concentrate on breathing.

Definitely something I am going to try again next Friday. I think this could be a nice adjunct to all of the other things I am doing with the overall goal of becoming more healthy

Yoga should really be a good workout for you. You are exercising a lot now and the stretching and relaxing is probably just what you need. We have a few studios in my town, so maybe I should go see what they offer. I was thinking about water aerobics, but I think I'll wait until it warms up in the spring.

Glad you enjoyed the yoga. I have never tried it. I was too busy today crashing into people in a low impact aerobics class. It's a bit embarrassing - especially because the majority of the class is in their seventies and eighties (it's the only class available at our lunchtime) and they can kick our butt. They know their right from their left - and I seem to be having some trouble with that - and moving my arms and legs at the dame time. But my exercise buddies and I had a blast, and it was a nice change from cardio today. Perhaps one day we will try yoga.

I love yoga too. I have never done a class but own an ever growing library of DVDs. My life is so much calmer when I do yoga. If I miss a couple of days I can tell. And being flexible is always a bonus.

Gift to Myself

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

So for my birthday this year I am giving myself 2 gifts:

1. A smaller body
This is probably the better (and definitely cheaper) of the two gifts. I started this journey on 7/27/09 at 286lbs and by the 3 month mark 10/27/09 (4 days before my Halloween birthday) I expect to be down below 250. The weight loss and the positive healthy habits I have formed are the best gift I could give to myself.

2. A kick-ass elliptical
For years I have tried ellipticals and not liked them, too hard on my knees, too lopsided feeling and on and on. Then on a recent trip to Boston, in the hotel gym I found my best new friend, an elliptical from LifeFitness - I felt like Gillian Michaels was kickin my butt, I had such a good workout. So yes, it is a splurge, and no I am not totally sure I can afford it, but winter is coming and I need every bit of help I can get to push myself and stay on track. So there it is. I ordered it tonight and I don't feel any buyer's remorse. I am tickled pink and I can't wait until it arrives

Pretty good birthday plans don't you think???

Some things are just worth the money. Consider how the price of this elliptical compares to a gym membership, driving to said gym, the time you spend driving, etc. Owning your own might save you money in the long run. Enjoy the new you!!

Amazing weight loss - you are an inspiration! What a great gift to yourself.

The elliptical is a great idea with the colder days coming. It will help you get through the holidays with even more weight gone.

Week 12: 3 lbs & only 0.25 inches

Monday, October 19, 2009

Ok, so just a brief comment on how my weight loss and inches lost seem completely independent of each other...Weird. Just glad to have the scale going in the right direction. I am also quite happy to be at the end of a series of travels and home where I can concentrate a little more on my program. Still having some stress eating/emotional/bored eating that I need to put an end to but I haven't quite figured out how yet - interested in ideas if anyone has some.

For me, planning has been the key to my stress eating. If I know I am getting a little overstressed or will be more prone to emotional eating because of a big project at work or that TOM, I will prepare the kitchen with a variety of snacks that will satisfy my cravings without undoing my success. I plan my regular meals to be on the light side to allow more room for snacking. Then I really amp up my workouts to prevent the stress eating in the first place. Congrats on the weight loss this week! You are doing great!

Woohoo!! You are making great progress!! And even with all the traveling you have been doing recently!! I am so impressed!! It's so much more difficult when you are away from home, and not able to prepare your own foods. I think it's great that you are tracking both weight and measurements. That way, you can see the progress you are making - when one or both of them are progressing at different rates sometimes. I bet with all the progress you are making - it's time to buy some new clothes. That should be fun. Keep up the great work. emoticon

Look at you go! I think you are just losing so much that your body doesn't know what to think. I know you are exercising a lot, so maybe that's part of it.

When I'm eating good, it's becuase I eat the good stuff first and then if I'm still hungry, I eat the junk. These last few days I have been backwards on that, but it's time to get with the program.
