Midnight Workouts

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

It's late so this one is going to be short & sweet:

Things that sucked today:
Rough day at work
Late for the theater
Ate a bit too much sushi
Felt cranky....in general
Didn't start my workout til 11:30pm
Body felt bloated, sluggish and slow - every step felt like it was sucking

Things that DIDN'T suck today:
Knowing that I did it anyway - 1:00am finished my workout
Knowing that the getting on the elliptical tonight will make all the difference in how I feel when I get up tomorrow.

That's all folks
and for today, that's enough!

Comparison Cycling Photos

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Left: Oct 2012 at 235 lbs ------ Right: Jan 2013 at 204lbs

So anyone who has ever followed my blog before knows that I struggle with seeing the difference in the mirror, and honestly - the scale and I have a love-hate relationship. Photos however, have been very effective for me to look back and recognize the changes so that I can adjust my mental image

I really buckled down and started working hard around three months ago. In that time I have lost 31 lbs, and I am happy to say I can see the difference in the photos. The left one above was taken the first week of Oct 2012, one on the right was today (67 degrees here in WV - mid January thaw!)

The photo below is from July (about the same weight that I was at the beginning of October, about 235) and the comparison is from today at 204.

Hope these help inspire any of you who have been a stuck like I was for most of the past 2 years...you can relight that fire!!

    WOW emoticon emoticon WOW

That is one amazing transformation. I don't mean the 31 pounds, I'm talking figure. We can lose weight sitting in a chair and starving. You changed your whole body shape. I would think your weight loss is closer to 36 lbs with a 5 lbs muscle gain. Everyone can see the facial difference (1st pic) and the waist/abs (2nd pic). I hope you can see the deltoids definition and the new tighter forearms.

I applaud you. My own workouts have let me know how much effort you have put in. You are AMAZING. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Those photos sure do provide a great view of your progress. I totally agree, victories are not only accomplished on the scale but how you look, feel, and on how clothes fit. These continue to provide me with the fuel to keep on pushing even when the scale is not moving!

Wonderful job Hollynn!

Got snow?

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Got Snow?
We do but only for a few more days...it is going to be 65 degrees this weekend (awesome for biking, not so much if you want to ski). I suspect given our base is only 14 inches most places we will lose our entire base and unless we are lucky enough to get a blizzard, no skiing for awhile. So...I am planning to ski a lot for the next few days to get my happy on, and when the warm comes, well...I guess I will get my cycle out.

Lots of love to my sparkies
Hollynn

No real snow yet for me. We had a couple of flurries but nothing that stayed.
My sister hates it becasue she is not good at driving in it, but I secretly long for it. Winter is cold & dead. I find it depressing. But when there is pretty snow to look at, and given time, play in, I do not mind as much.

An (almost there) dress pic

Sunday, January 06, 2013

Above is a pic of me in a dress that doesn't quite fit (probably about 10 lbs away from a comfortable fit) that I put on tonight to remind myself how far I have come in the past three months and to inspire myself to do more.

Pictures like these also help me focus on non-scale related victories. It is crucial to my success not to get too hung up in the numbers but rather to look for many ways to evaluate my success - fitting into clothes, measurements, look in the mirror and in photos.

Any other suggestions of ways to evaluate progress that don't entirely focus on numbers on a scale - I would be happy to hear them!

Cheers,
Hollynn aka SpunkyDucky

You look great in the dress!! I have to agree - the numbers on the scale don't say it all. I compared pics from me in a dress last year and this year and even though I was 10lbs heavier - I found I looked slimmer (perhaps more toned). Pictures really are worth a thousand words!

oh wow.,... that dress is so cute and you look adorable !! I too do this same thing...... here lately I have started walking through the stores and looking at clothes That I cannot get into..... just like you my dream is a straight dress made of thin knit material that I know will show bulges so I must look better in order to wear it !
I just walk around and shop for the future.....NOT buying but sort of imagining what I possbily CAN wear in the future and HOPING what will look good on me....these are typically things I have NOT been able to wear... it gives me hope and dreams for the future and puts a smile on my face and goal to aim for !!

I've still more weight to lose. So everyone, keep getting rid of those unwanted weight and live a full, healthier, happier life.

Skinny Day

Thursday, January 03, 2013

Do you ever have a day where you just feel sorta skinny
I am not - skinny... not really even thin, technically I am still too heavy to even hit the "overweight BMI"
But today I felt good.
Hard to know what started it and it doesn't really matter
The feeling is fleeting
I know whatever my weight I will have "fat days" and "skinny days"
Because a lot of how we feel is in our mind
Just wanted to hold onto it a little longer, while the feeling lasts....

Most of my skinny/fat days are food driven.

meat/candy/dairy = fat day. I could have lost weight, but this food is slow to move and hard on my system. It gives me a tired slumping feeling.

beans/eggs/pots = regular days. Healthy foods in range. Everything seems normal.

fish/salads/whole foods/nuts/fruits = "HULK SMASH LITTLE MAN" kind of power. My body responds well to these foods. Has extra energy and lightness feeling. Then shoulders go back, chest goes out, and that means stomach has to get pulled in.

It also helps that on these days, I'm flexing for everyone.
