Post-workout GLOW!

Friday, December 07, 2012

Not sure where I found my energy today but I am feeling AWESOME!
I went to the gym and torched it!
45 minutes on the Cross-ramp
60 minutes on Stationary Bike
60 minutes on the Elliptical
10 minutes on the Rowing Machine
10 minutes on the Arc Trainer

Sweated so hard I felt like I had gotten out of the pool - nothing like that clothes drenched-hair disarrayed ponytail-endorphine filled moment when you complete this kind of workout.

lovin'it!

Fitbit Baby!

Sunday, December 02, 2012

I have had my fitbit for a month now and I *love* it! I bought a fitbit one for a birthday present to myself at the end of October. As a former bodybugg girl I was hoping the fitbit would be similar but less bulky and noticeable. So far I have been very pleased!

I place the fitbit in my pants pocket or on my belt. I tried wearing it on the bra, but it annoyed me there. Although you can sleep with it on, I have only been using it during waking hours. It only requires 2 hours to charge every 4-5 days which is easy to keep up with.

So here is what I like about it. Hit a small button and it tells you how many steps you have taken (my goal is over 15,000 daily), number of flights of stairs, distance travelled, calories burned and the growing flower. I love the flower because the more active you are the more the flower grows during the day. I find that I will check in multiple times a day to see how I am doing. I am much more likely to take the stairs at work, go for a 10 minute walk or find some other way to increase my activity on days when the numbers are low. The fitbit also emails you or sends a text at times when you are close to reaching a goal to spur you on.

emoticon

The website is easy to use and FREE. It give you graphics of your daily activities - which I like and also links with spark.

I just ordered 2 more - one for my dad and one for my husband. I promise I do not get any kickbacks from the company - but since I like it so much and have found it to be a useful tool to inspire me to be more active, I thought it was worth blogging about.

Stay active sparkies!

I did not realize that you owned a FB! This device has been the single-most motivating device I own. Intially I my goal was 10K steps per day but I have since increased the goal to 20k steps per day. I was a FB Ultra user but recently was given a FB One by my employer and I love how much smaller it is and that fact that it is water-resistant. It has become the one thing I make sure I have on my person at all times. The only time I cannot have it on is when I am showering or in a pool. I wonder when they will manufacture one that is water-proof! LOL

BTW, do you belong to the FitBit Users Unite team on SP? I am one of the leaders. Ever since SP announced that SP and FB would sync our membership has grown by leaps and bounds!

20 Pounds in 50 Days

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Sometimes it is amazing what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.
50 days ago I weighed 234, and I was utterly depressed about it
You know what depression does for you - NOTHING
You know what feeling bad that I gained 44 lbs back does - NOTHING
You know what works - ACTION
This morning the scale said 214...
Wanna guess what it is going to say in another 50 days - 194 baby! emoticon

So how did I do it?
1400-1600 calories a day, no sweets - you can say "everything in moderation" but it just doesn't work for me. So no sweets (except my daily berries!)
Daily exercise - and not a little bit of it - 98 hours and 20 minutes - essentially 2 hours a day
I will tell you a secret - my body wants this weight off - it works hard

So there it is - what I can do in 50 days
It is 50 more days until January 17th - I see the 190s in my near future.

So what could you do in 50 days?
It doesn't have to be 20 lbs, what about 10? How about a dedication to fitness? Whatever it is you think you can't do - You CAN do this!

Anyone who wants to join me is welcome - formally tracking on the 100 day Challenge team, but informal reports are great as well. I would love to cheer you on!

Cheers!

That's FREAKING AWESOME! Hmmm, I wonder what I could get my butt to do in 58? Right before my trip?.....(But then I remember I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and I am living between two homes! Drive 2 hours most days, House Remodel, ..................ERRR!! MY FRUSTRATION!!!) Maybe I should accept the slow loss I am getting ...and be thankful, BUT I would love to do what you are doing. emoticon

Congratulations Girl - you deserved this. I WANT it for myself too, but the plateau is discouraging me big time. It doesn't feel worth it to work so hard and not be rewarded on the scale. I have to just want it for myself. And that's a hard shift.

But - for the next 20 days, I'm doing a mile a day. And THAT I will do. Let's see what happens!

Wow, congratulations! That's less than 2 months time! I didn't know there was a 100 day challenge team. I love that you issued a challenge to those reading your blog. What can you do in 50 days or 100 days? Let me give this some thought. I find adding challenges around the holidays helpful in dealing with them. It's amazing to me just how being prepared, thinking about and being aware of our triggers and then learning how to deal with them. On Thanksgiving our family was invited to a friend's for dessert. So we bought 2 desserts with us - one indulgent sweet treat and a box of clementines. They love clementines and now I knew there would also be a healthy choice at the table. =)

Old Trainer & New Shoes

Saturday, November 24, 2012

I promised myself that as soon as I lost the first 20 lbs on my restart that I would begin working with my trainer again. It is time...

John, my trainer came over today and I started off with about 30 minutes of honesty. I told him how when I worked with him a year ago I was so exhausted after our weight training that I would sleep for several hours, followed by 2-3 days of moderate to severe pain that ibuprofen didn't really help and let's not even start about the appetite increase. Yes, I became much stronger, but at a cost.

Having said that, not working with weights (which I pretty much never do on my own) results in rapid weight loss - but I am probably losing a good amount of muscle as well. And I like being stronger...

So we started today with some goals and ground rules
1. The goal is maintenance of muscle mass & WEIGHT LOSS
2. Continued weight loss is crucial and to be monitored
3. We will cut back intensity if I am too sore to do my cardio
4. I will eat cottage cheese and fruit after weight training to help with my hunger surges

After our talk I got my first weight training in 6 months - quickly back into the groove - weighed squats, pushups, situps, kettle presses. Then cardio...We'll see how I feel tomorrow!!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Also, given it was "Small Business Appreciation Day" Ron and I decided to visit our local small town running store and pick up some new shoes. I bought two pair (Brooks Adrenaline and Mizuno Wave Inspire) to put into rotation.

Hope everyone has recovered from Thanksgiving Dinner!

It is so important that the both of you are on the same page. Weight lifting is extremely rewarding but not when it is overdone. I love the idea of replenishing your body with some protein and carbs after a workout, need to give your body the energy to build up muscle. Congrats on the weight loss Hollynn, it certainly sounds like you are back in a good groove, keep it up!

I'm rooting for you Hollynn

HarmonyBlue - This one's for you! Last Chance Workout

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

So I was minding my own business yesterday, checking in on my Sparkies and I read my friend HarmonyBlue's blog (she is completely awesome by the way peeps). She said that she was planning to do a "Last Chance Workout" today. I couldn't stop laughing - what a GREAT idea! I commented that I thought I might do it too - offset those holiday calories!

So this morning, I check into spark - and there it is, a challenge from Harmony (and she wants a blog too) ... Do a Last Chance Workout today... Anyone who knows me knows I can't resist a good challenge!

(for anyone not aware - Last Chance Workout was made famous by the show the Biggest Loser as their last killer workout before high stakes weigh in...)

So here is my Last Chance Workout:
70 minutes cycling on the trail
75 minutes on elliptical
30 min walking on treadmill
15 minutes rowing machines
10 minutes stretching

WOOT - 3 hours and 20 minutes of fitness baby emoticon Feel the BURN emoticon

Harmony - big kisses - that is at least 1.5 hours more than I would have done otherwise! You are so awesome - thanks for the challenge - yes - I expect a blog from you as well

On a more serious note to all - Happy Thanksgiving! Last Chance Workout or not, enjoy the holiday and don't forget to be grateful for where you are right now
