8 Down - 6 to Go!

Monday, November 14, 2011

So itís week 8 and Iíve lost about 6 lbs towards my 20 lb goal by Dec 31st. About 6 weeks left to go. So itís still doable, but Iím going to have to do a little better than I have so far. Iím a little disappointed in myself, but I still believe I can do it.

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8
Week 4: 277.2
Week 5: 275.8
Week 6: 280.8
Week 7: 273.8
Week 8: 274.0

Zumba officially ended on Saturday. The instructor said she is going to have two classes in December to raise money for charity so I might go to those, but I think for the most part my Zumba days are over. Does anyone besides me miss old fashioned aerobics? Iím going to see what classes parks & rec is offering at the beginning of the year, which is when the new catalog comes out. Nothing too exciting to talk about this week, however, preview for next week....Jingle Bell Run review! Hopefully I will have pictures and lots of good stuff to tell you next week! (Mother Nature please give us some good weather!)

LOOK AT YOU GO GIRL!! You are well on your way to accomplishing that goal. I am so proud of you.

Sounds like you really enjoyed Zumba. I'm sure you'll figure out something to fill in the gap. Good idea to check with parks and rec!

Keep up the good work. After a nice loss like this, you can start to feel it, can't you?

Zumba was fun for me, but I can't say I missed it when it was over. I was also looking for something that I could look slightly more coordinated at.

Those 14 pounds will come off - just keep working at it. You're making progress, and that's the important part.

You are doing great...just keep pushing. Yeah, like I should talk. I've been losing and gaining the same 6 pounds since June. Hmmm...
Sorry to hear that your Zumba class is ending, but that does open a night up for some variety. I hope your rec dept. is less lame than ours.
Here's to good weather for the Jingle Bell run...fingers crossed.

Hop on board my crazy train!!

Monday, November 07, 2011

My weight the last couple of weeks has been crazy! Gained 5 last week out of the blue, this week itís gone. Am I glad? Absolutely! Do I know what happened? Not even a little.

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8
Week 4: 277.2
Week 5: 275.8
Week 6: 280.8
Week 7: 273.8

So Iím just going to pretend like week 6 was some weird dream and I just lost another couple of pounds after week 5. If it happens again maybe Iíll be able to figure out what happened by comparing the two weeks. Yep, hop on board my crazy train folks!

This weekend was kind of fun. I did zumba on Saturday and Iím sort of getting the hang of it. Instead of feeling uncoordinated and silly, I actually started having fun! Our regular instructor was back so my calorie burn was back up over 1200. Gotta love her! Also, I finally got to go to Trader Joeís. Talk about crazy! I went on Friday at 3pm. It was so packed with people you had to WAIT IN LINE to get to the produce! There were 5-6 checkout lines open with lines 6-7 people deep waiting at each of them. Ever been to a Walmart on a Saturday afternoon and thought ďnever againĒ ? This was waaaay worse. Since I had already done my shopping at my regular store and was just there to look, I thought it was funny! The rest was just a nice relaxing weekend.

Have a great week!!

I just love TJ! They actually have good values too. That sure is crazy but People are wanting to get good food for a good price so we need to keep it a secret... shhhh.

Our Walmart has not been as crowded since they expanded it. Maybe it is just me though.

Soooo glad that Week 6 is behind you! I'm jealous that you're feeling more coordinated at Zumba. I did two 6-week sessions and I felt silly and uncoordinated right through the end. It is a super fun class, though, that's for sure!

    Way to ditch the five...yeehaw!
I have only heard good things about T*Joe's. Friends in town go all the way down to Milwaukee just to go. There big go get is some kind of good wine that they have nicknamed 2 Buck Chuck. I for one am not into the shopping crowd thing and I think I'd probably freak.
Good luck on kicking 5 more to the curb!

You are too funny! I can relate to your "crazy train!!" But, you are doing Zumba...and you are burning mega calories standing in line at T'Joe's! Generally, our T'Joe's is very efficiently run...except last week when I guess overnight their computer system crashed because of a power surge. People would get up to the check out and "no debit cards"...only credit (which took forever) or cash! No signs anywhere, either! It was a mess.

Hang in there, girl. I agree with TPELL21. Keep looking at the big picture and long term progress. Baby steps, baby steps!

We're in this together, sista!

Sometimes gains are just water retention from too much sodium. Glad is it gone! Haven't made it Trader Joe's yet.

I've tracked my weight for literally years. In that time, I've found that my weight can swing 5 pounds or more easy and often. Like TPELL21 said, it's the big picture, long term trend that you need to look at.

It looks to me like you are doing fantastic on that long term trend. Hang in there and keep it up!

Great work on the weight loss! Remember to look at the big picture, long term progress. Sometimes there are blips, just stay consistent, especially when using a scale... ;)
Wow, that's some crazy shopping experience! Hopefully when you go next time it will be better.

You ever have one of those weeks?

Monday, October 31, 2011

Okay, so Iím a little bummed, and a little confused. Actually, make that a lot. I was better with my food this week than I normally am and I gain 5 lbs?!! Really? 5?! 5?!!

emoticon emoticon

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8
Week 4: 277.2
Week 5: 275.8
Week 6: 280.8

So I donít know. I do think Iím going through perimenopause because there have been some changes happening lately. But if that was it would it all have happened in one week? Fluctuating 2-3 lbs is not that unusual for me but this is a little crazy. Every time I look at that number it just makes me so sad. Six weeks and right back where I started.
Sorry for the mope. I actually considered not doing my blog this week so I wouldnít have to tell everyone that I gained back every bit of weight I had lostÖ. But I decided it wouldnít be fair not to take the bad with the good.
Oh and on another subjectÖ.the sub for my Zumba class? Made me appreciate my normal teacher. I burned half the calories of the week before. She seemed really nice, but I guess sometimes you just don't click with certain instructors.
So there you have it! Not my greatest week ever!

emoticon

Okay, so Iím going to mope a little bit, and then Iím going to get over my funk and deal with it. There are worse things in life than having a bad weigh in week.
Letís have some good things to prove that not everything is all badÖ.
1. A Traders Joeís just opened and I canít wait to go check it out!
2. I get to buy a new winter coat this weekend (since my stinker of a dog destroyed my other one! Lol!)
3. I have 3 beautiful dogs that love me no matter how much I weigh! (sleeping with a cuddly dog curled up against your back on a cold winters night? My version of heaven!)
4. I'm not a quitter, I will get back to work and figure this out!

And last but not least Ė itís Halloween! Halloween is a fun day!

emoticon

Thanks for listening!

LOVE your attitude and LOVE your honesty!! Those scale moments are HARD! If you are entering peri-menopause, then yah...expect all kinds of hormonal whackiness that will periodically show up on the scale. But, it will come back off! I've been weighing myself too much and need to stop. I think I'm going to shoot for e/o week. There are just too many fluctuations!

Like the sound of the Zumba class (but with your regular teacher!)

Your dogs??? Holy crap. That it one great photo and it made me smile from ear to ear!!

Hang in there, friend emoticon

I am no expert, but I will give you my opinion. I don't give much attention to the scale. I know several ladies who look fabulous and their scale weight is quite high.

Go by your clothes (how they fit loose or tight)
Go by how you look, look at yourself in the mirror.

If you are building muscle (or losing it) your weight is affected.

How do you feel?

Your Babies are so Beautiful, great shot of them!

As for your heaven, yeah, people without fur babies won't get that. But I'll take my fur babies to my hubby any day. They don't kick (as much) or hog the whole bed and blankets. LOL

Shoooooot! That is frustrating. I'm glad your not giving up though because if 5 pounds just showed up out of no where, they are likely to leave pretty quick, too.

Snuggling with a pet is great! When I wake up in the night & my kitty is sleeping against me I try not to move too much so I don't scare her off.

Yup, and I found out my culprit was salted food. Being past menopause, I do still crave more salt on foods during the week I would have had my menses. Consequently I would gain water weight and as soon as I stopped that my weight would balance out, but I stayed at the same weight. Only when I realized what was happening did I start heading down again. I'm going very slowly, and I'm happy with that!

First Zumba class! (and weigh in)

Monday, October 24, 2011

So this was the first weekend of Zumba! I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about so I took a class through my local parks and rec department. It was definitely fun, but I sort of felt like an uncoordinated boob. And Iím actually not uncoordinated. But it didnít look like most of the others in the class were all that great at it either, so I felt like I fit right in!
emoticon emoticon
The instructor was nice and very enthusiastic and I enjoyed most of the music. Plus the best part? Burned 1300 calories! It always makes me happy when I burn over a 1000 in my workouts. I know as I shrink so will my calorie burn, but for nowÖI like it!
Overall rating...lot's of fun but not sure yet if I will continue after this class. I might try for a Step class next. I really enjoy step, but my knees are a little iffy about it. I used to teach it back in the day and I kind of miss it. We'll see if I can rope my friend Celeste into going to that with me too.
emoticon
Celeste has been such a good friend. She is very thin and fit, and yet she hikes with me and doesn't complain about the slow pace, she listens to me yammer on about what I'm eating and all that other weight-related stuff, (we work right next to each other), she exercises with me at least every other weekend even though she is a busy wife and mother, plus she wants to be supportive so she takes a zumba class with me even though aerobics are definitely not her thing! So here's to Celeste!
emoticon

And hereís to another good week at the weigh in!

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8
Week 4: 277.2
Week 5: 275.8

Have a great week sparkers!

So glad you are doing zumba, it is a fun way to burn calories. It is excellent for your core by the way. Step really can be tough on the knees, I avoid it. Be careful with the turning in step, you need to keep your body mechanics in check to avoid hurting your knee on some of the turns. Sometimes it is nice to go alone so you can make friends in the class.

Crash, Boom....huh?

Monday, October 17, 2011

So Friday I was innocently walking over to the mall to get a subway sandwich for lunch when I tripped and fell directly onto my left knee. As I sat there and kind of rocked, I thought I really had broken it. After a minute, my co-worker that was walking with me says, ďWhat can I do? I donít know what to do?Ē So I pulled my act together and asked her to help me up and limped my way on over to subway. I was so bummed, because I knew that I would not be working out that weekend. Weekends are my big workout times! Plus I was supposed to go to my first ever Zumba class on Saturday! How was I going to shake my groove thang with a bum leg? I wasnít. I didnít leave my house all weekend. I sat in my recliner and tried to keep the dogs from jumping on my leg. So I was pretty sure my weigh in this morning was going to be ugly. So here you go:

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8
Week 4: 277.2

WhaÖHuh? How on earth did that happen when I didnít move for three days? Iím not sure, but Iím just going to roll with it and be happy! Turns out my knee is not broken, but itís all kinds of pretty colors from mid shin to about 4Ē above the knee with a nice spot of broken skin at the impact spot. Iím not limping anymore, so hopefully Zumba this weekend and maybe a nice hike too depending on how it feels.

Oh, no! I'm glad it wasn't more serious, but still, that sucks. The falling & getting hurt part, not the 2.6 POUND LOSS!
Way to go!!! Whatever the reason, take it : )
I don't how that works sometimes, losing when it isn't expected. I ate like a junk food junkie last week & I lost .7. And that is always the week I weigh the most.

I haven't had time to post my weigh in blog, but I did lose .7 & am super excited about that. Work has been SOOOOOO busy. I think it is getting better, though. I've got a little time for Sparking today & I'm hoping the rest of the week will be the same way.
My half is this Sunday. This is supposed to be my "take it easy week" but I think it is going to be hard to take easy when I'm so excited!

Glad to hear you're doing better! And way to go on the loss...you may have been moving less, but what you did earlier in the week with both eating & exercise must have been pretty good!!
As a trainer, I am not horrified...I actually allow it too...I know, I'm bad.
