Crash, Boom....huh?

So Friday I was innocently walking over to the mall to get a subway sandwich for lunch when I tripped and fell directly onto my left knee. As I sat there and kind of rocked, I thought I really had broken it. After a minute, my co-worker that was walking with me says, ďWhat can I do? I donít know what to do?Ē So I pulled my act together and asked her to help me up and limped my way on over to subway. I was so bummed, because I knew that I would not be working out that weekend. Weekends are my big workout times! Plus I was supposed to go to my first ever Zumba class on Saturday! How was I going to shake my groove thang with a bum leg? I wasnít. I didnít leave my house all weekend. I sat in my recliner and tried to keep the dogs from jumping on my leg. So I was pretty sure my weigh in this morning was going to be ugly. So here you go:

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8
Week 4: 277.2

WhaÖHuh? How on earth did that happen when I didnít move for three days? Iím not sure, but Iím just going to roll with it and be happy! Turns out my knee is not broken, but itís all kinds of pretty colors from mid shin to about 4Ē above the knee with a nice spot of broken skin at the impact spot. Iím not limping anymore, so hopefully Zumba this weekend and maybe a nice hike too depending on how it feels.

    Oh, no! I'm glad it wasn't more serious, but still, that sucks. The falling & getting hurt part, not the 2.6 POUND LOSS!
Way to go!!! Whatever the reason, take it : )
I don't how that works sometimes, losing when it isn't expected. I ate like a junk food junkie last week & I lost .7. And that is always the week I weigh the most.

I haven't had time to post my weigh in blog, but I did lose .7 & am super excited about that. Work has been SOOOOOO busy. I think it is getting better, though. I've got a little time for Sparking today & I'm hoping the rest of the week will be the same way.
My half is this Sunday. This is supposed to be my "take it easy week" but I think it is going to be hard to take easy when I'm so excited!

    Glad to hear you're doing better! And way to go on the loss...you may have been moving less, but what you did earlier in the week with both eating & exercise must have been pretty good!!
As a trainer, I am not horrified...I actually allow it too...I know, I'm bad.

Weigh in and hike pics

So I'm going to start with the bad and move on to the good so I can end on a positive note. The weigh in:

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4
week 2: 278.6
week 3: 279.8

Yep, unfortunately the weigh in is the bad part. Brought on by not eating the right things and then eating too much. Once I pass a 0 (300, 290, 280) I never want to see them again. So I really need to get myself back on track. Luckily, not everything has gone to pot. The good news is the exercising is going really well! I went on the same hike I did two weeks ago (the one that totally kicked my butt). I had left my favorite flexi-leash up there, so my hiking partner and I, and the puppies of course, hiked back up to the cache we did. I could really feel that I was stronger! I didn't have to rest as much climbing the steep hill and I didn't feel like I had to sit and rest once I got to the top! Progress! Here are some pics from our hike. It was perfect weather for a hike (I still made sure to bring plenty of water this time), plus we found another cache!

We started off with the dogs having a little swim.

Here you can kind of tell the size of the hill we were climbing. That's Lacey Jane, Celeste's big black dog, at the top waiting for us.

    Wow! What a cool place to hike...and the fact that you can take your dogs (off leash). All of our really good hiking spots are no dogs or if they are allowed, they have to be on a leash. Looks like it was quite a hike (my butt hurts just looking at that hill).

Your boys are sooo cute! How do you get them to sit next to each other, let alone all 4 of them to sit in a line?

    These pictuers are awesome! We are used to seeing Elliot perfectly groomed, he looks like he has been having alot of fun in these photos.

I love that you guys go in a group, dogs need that and it makes your exercise way more fun. Great for getting out and showin the dogs a good time simultaneously!!!

    I love the group shots - especially with all the dogs posing! They're adorable! I bet they loved this whole day; it looks like the weather was fabulous.

I"m sorry that you had the weight gain, but at least you didn't get right back up to where you started, and you know what you did to make that happen. I'm sure that hike was totally on the right track!

Week 2 Weigh In

Well, it's week 2 of my end of year push for 20 lbs....and ya know how in Biggest loser sometimes they have a rough 2nd week?.....boy did I had a rough second week. Of course, this one was all my doing. I ate like I had a hollow leg! I couldn't stop! I was like a cat on the prowl, looking in cupboards, staring in the fridge. It was kinda pathetic. The only thing that I can say in my defense is that TOM is visiting....stupid TOM.....but no excuses. I still have a few more years of his visits, I have to control him!
I did have a great weekend excercise-wise. Saturday I went for a lovely long hike/geocache that was very hilly and got my heart pumping - and I found the cache! So that was fun AND I burned 1600 calories! Woohoo to that! Sunday I went to a different area to do the same thing and although I didn't work as hard or find the cache, I still burned some good calories and got in a good walk with Eliot. Plus, I mowed the lawn at a speed-walk because I was almost out of gas! lol! So even though I gained a bit, considering my gluttony during the week, I'm not too upset and I vow to do better this week!

    It's OK...like you said, it's only week two. Keep pushing and you are likely to see some pretty awesome results. Way to go on the two pounds though...use that as motivation!

    For having a hollow leg last week, you sure held your ground. Shoot, being up .2 lbs can mean you just needed to go potty.

My weekend was pretty good. I did make cookies for my van kids & I've had a few of those. Nothing that is too big of a deal, but I'm making a promise not to eat anymore of those. I'm done with them.

    Awesome work burning 1600 calories! That's incredible! TOM is a pain in the butt, that's for sure. I wouldn't scrutinize those numbers too carefully with him in town. Wait til he's gone and I bet the scale is going to be much kinder. Glad you had a nice weekend!

    Sometimes the toughest battle we fight is against ourselves. We know what we're supposed to do, yet we hamper ourselves. it's probably my biggest challenge in weight loss, and I find that I have to take it one day at a time, one instance at a time, one battle at a time. Remind yourself of your goals when you want to eat something. Down a full glass of water and then ask yourself if you really need that food. Go do 50 jumping jacks before making a meal decision. Tell yourself that you're going to wait 30 minutes before eating that snack. If you're like me, you'll probably be able to say no thanks after that time.

These are all things that have worked (sometimes!) for me. Hopefully something in there will work for you as well.

All that exercising is AWESOME! Keep it up!

A Successful start!

Okay technically I've been at this for a while....but last week I set some new goals for the end of the year and had a good first week! I did have a couple of slipups in the paleo department but then, I'm not expecting perfection. It would sure leave me disappointed if I did!
I had a nice long hike on Saturday. A friend and I took our dogs up to Bear Lake for probably their last swim of the year and then we decided to go find a nearby geocache. I thought it would be a modest .5 - .75 mile hike.....HA! It was about that far to get there and the last .25 mile all up hill - very - up hill. The thing about up hills is, they are hard going up, but to those of us whose balance is not so great, they are a little scary going down. So I thought let's go a different way down. Not my most brilliant moment. It took us so far out of the way that we were out for almost 2 1/2 hours. And I only brought one little bottle of water for both Eliot and I. Needless to say, by the time I got back to the car I was spent. Not to mention waaaay overheated. In fact, a little nauseous for the rest of the day! And in my mind - through my blinding headache - all I could think was "Gee, I bet I burned alot of calories!" Oh well, next time I will be better prepared for sure. So on to my weigh in:

Start: 280.4
week 1: 278.4

Exactly 2 pounds! Yay! (I know my last blog I said I weighed in at 280.2 but it was a little typo!)

    Good job. I think perfection with any 'diet' is pretty tough. Just remember to get right back at it if and when you do slip up. Consistency is what it is all about.

3 goals - Here I come!

Iíve taken my cue from Pinkbeanboo and decided to challenge myself to hit some goals by the end of the year. Thank you PBB for being my motivator!
emoticon emoticon (this is Pinkbeanboo - a running maniac!! Go girl!)
So the first goal is to lose 20lbs by Dec 31st. I will do a weekly weigh in and hope that having to report to you all will help motivate me. Because after losing 30, Iíve been kind of stuck for quite a while. Itís hard for me to be motivated with just a vague date as a goal, usually I like to have something to shoot for like an eventÖso if I can come up with one of those I will do that too.
My second goal is to do more exercise this winter than I did last winterÖ.which should be easy since last year I pretty much did none! More hiking this fall, and snowshoeing this winter. A friend and I have already been discussing where to go snowshoeing once we have enough snow. Plus I will try and hit the indoor exercise machines & ST during the week.
And last but certainly not least is to do better on my paleo. I have gone from eating 80/20 to probably 20/80. Yes, I have been a bad bad girl lately, which Iím sure is the reason for my current stalemate. So here we go Ė my first weigh in was this morning:

09/19/11 Ė 280.2

    We can do this. We CAN.
The hardest part for me will be Thanksgiving/Christmas time. Last year I thought I could maintain. I thought wrong! I'll need to keep myself in weight loss mode, otherwise I'll start eating cookies, candy, pie, mashed potates & rolls like a crazy person.
Help me stay on track & I'll help you, too. I'll be checking on your weigh in next Monday.
