Can You Recognize a Blessing in Disguise

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Sometimes things aren't how they seem. Sometimes blessings come from the most unlikely paths.

You wrote "...what about those times when we donít get forgiveness from a friend?"

Sometimes, it's the thoughtless things we do that can nag at us. And it's harder (to my mind) making amends when we don't know the person we've harmed, whose path we may have crossed only once.

When you reach out in apology and try to mend bridges, you have done the right thing. Whether your former friends accept your hand in forgiveness is down to them - you have done your best, and you're right to let it go.

Like you, Carley, I believe there's a reason. It is time to let it go, as it's meant to be...

I Am Your Addiction

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Author Unknown

I hate meetings. I hate your higher powers. I hate anyone who has a "program." To all who come into contact with me, I wish you suffering and I wish you death.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am the disease of addiction. I am cunning, baffling, and powerful. I have killed millions and I am pleased.

Mmm hmm... amazing just how many things we can become addicted to, and how they can interefere with our real purpose in Life. And not just drugs or alcohol, but gambling... food... even (dare I say it) the internet. [That'd be me, here in the back of the hall, with the red face.]

REALLY good blog, Carley! I do think you should repost it here to Spark. Some people are reluctant to click on any links, and this blog on addiction speaks so much to people in the SP community.

IMHO

My ex's mother was an alcoholic. A bunch of years ago, when he and I were still together, one New Year's Eve he wanted to leave the house to buy alcohol. I said I wasn't interested in any. He kept on for a while and finally said, "What if I NEED it?" I replied, "All the more reason not to get it!" He looked surprised, and then sat down and didn't go to get any! Phew!

I have done The Made To Crave Bible Study also. I am learning to crave GOD more. However, I am still craving food at times when I should be going directly to HIM. I am learning though and getting better at going to HIM.

Yes, our craving should be for God!

I suppose you saw on the news that emotional binge eating is now classified as a mental illness. I thought that is very interesting since perhaps techniques to help will be developed by the community of psychologists (some of whom may have to face their own binge eating).

    Carley,
Great list. I have a lot of books at my house. Right now we also have a lot of children's books, and I am trying to add more Christian children's books and not just the old nursery rhyme and usual books.
Of course the Bible is my favorite, and the one we need to go to to Know God and how He wants us to live our lives.

MORMONNOMORE2 - Thank you I hope you enjoyed it. Many blessings to you. HUG

SPARKLISE - I have several bibles on my shelves. It's the one book that has the answer to everything! One can never learn enough from it, and one will never get tired of reading it. That's pretty awesome! Many blessings to you. HUGS

KASEYCOFF - I have a whole shelf filled with home books. I did an interior decorating course years ago. It's one of my passions. Blessings. HUG

GINNJEN1974 - I love self help books because I love learning new things, and because I love to strive to better myself. Seems to be a great fit for me. LOL. Many blessings to you. HUG

I used to read everything and anything.
I could read a book in a day!
But I read books that were not bringing me closer to God and most of the time they were books that brought me further from God.
The last book I read like that I shared it with my pastor and he asked me why I read those books.
He quoted the scripture that said "Above all, guard you heart", and explained to me the damage I was doing to my spiritual health.
I had never really seen it that way and I went home and cleaned my book shelf of all the books I judged not suitable for a Christian-especially to a new one.
My book shelf is filled with books, but ,like yours, they're books that help me grow(and the ones I hoped would make me shrink! like diet books!)
The Bible is the only book I'm reading for now and it's fine by me!
