A Chicago area Boys & Girls Club of America is using SparkPeople to help its employees lose weight and get healthy. Mike Danahey explores their program and interviews SparkPeople CEO/Founder Chris Downie. "Downie, who started a business that merged into eBay, developed the motivational plan with a friend in the 1990s, initially to help himself overcome anxiety. SparkPeople also has a huge database of foods with accurate nutritional data. Part of this database is culled from the USDA's food data, but a large portion is generated from verified user submissions. Grant Miller, a spokesperson for SparkPeople, said that, to date, the site has verified nutritional information for about 15,000 foods in its database. Read it at ABCNews.com .

    I'm glad they mentioned SP. Fantastic. There are SO many Sparkers who have lost the weight without going through SURGERY. I wish others just could see their success and realize they could do it, too.
50% of the people who have the surgery gain all the weight back again after two years, so it isn't a perfect answer. emoticon
