Happy New Year!

Well, I didn't lose any weight in December...BUT I managed not to gain any either! So since I'm still down 25 pounds and holding steady, I decided it was time for me to award myself the "I live 25 Pounds" icon. emoticon

I could have given this to myself earlier but I wanted to make sure this weight loss was going to stick. Now it's on the the next step...25 more pounds to lose.

Happy New Year! I generally like to start my New Year's Resolutions on the first Monday after New Years...I use the days leading up to that to get prepared *update goals, etc.)

So here I am...and lots more soon!

There's a lot to be said for not gaining during the holiday season. Good job!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Happy Thanksgiving -- I managed to not do too much 'damage'! I controlled myself with the turkey dinner/lunch, tried to take it easy on the carbs, didn't have (or want!) seconds, and shared a piece of pumpkin pie. Afterwards, I took a loooooong nap and even managed a 15 minute walk after that.
emoticon

(All of my kitties had a turkey dinner too -- turkey cat food, that is!)

Best of all, I weighed in this morning and I'm OFFICIALLY at a 25 pound weight loss! (I haven't given myself the 'Lost 25 Pounds' icon yet though -- I want to make sure it sticks!
emoticon

Gonna have a light dinner (with 2 veggies) and watch some Leverage on TV (Thanks Netflix!). I work tomorrow but even if I didn't I would be staying FAR away from the Black Friday crowds. (Be careful out there!)
emoticon

More soon! :)

Quick update...

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Well, I haven't weighed myself in the past few days but I do feel like I'm still a few pounds up. It didn't help that I had a bit more more cheddar-flavored popcorn yesterday (I LOVE that stuff) and the family ordered a chicken-bacon-ranch pizza last night from the new pizza place in town.

Yes, it WAS delicious and no, I really shouldn't have.

I know from past diets (I don't consider this a 'diet', but more of a lifestyle change) that I can be doing great but every so often (maybe every couple of weeks?) I get totally famished and feel empty and just have to pig out -- at least a little. I used to think it was because I wasn't eating enough fat but that's not the case. I think it's just that I'm really active and I just need a few more calories, plain and simple.

Anyway, I don't feel that I've messed everything up like I have in the past. A few days off the wagon like this would have made me give up. But not this time. I really don't even feel like giving up! I feel more like: "Well, I've learned a little something from this and even though I'm not happy with myself I'm NOT going to beat myself up. Let's just move on, shall we?"
emoticon

And BEST of all, I fought the urges that are somehow still with me (after many years of struggling with them I guess they will always be with me) to deal with overeating in an unhealthy manner. (Don't really want to 'go there' so let's just leave it at that.)

Anyway, I feel at peace with myself. I was really tired today after starting work at 7am and not getting nearly enough sleep, so I took a cat-nap this afternoon (literally -- my cats joined me) and then went on a 40 minute walk.

:)

More soon!
~Heather

P.S. (Updated in response to TANGERYN's question): My cats are inside cats (and they help with inside workouts -- like sitting right under me when I'm in the middle to a pushup! UGH!) but I DO also have some outdoor cats that I adopted -- or they adopted me (and I had them all FIXED!) and those 4 DO walk with me! If I can sneak out without them seeing me I can walk where I want...but if they see me they WILL walk with me, so I walk around and around the block. I feel like the Pied Piper when this happens -- me walking with 4 cats. Cars have actually stopped to watch and smile at us...

Aw, that's lovely about the outdoor cats, what a sight it must be. :) Cats can be so charming!

Oh oh...

I weighed in this morning and I'm up 3 pounds! YIKES! emoticon

I thought over the past week...

- I DID go over my calories a little (just a little) but probably on most days, so that would certainly add up.

- I managed quite a few fitness minutes last week: 1394 emoticon
(Last week I did my 5K for "SparkPeople's Official 5K Your Way Walking Program" and I also did LOTS of heavy yard work -- I DO count that as fitness minutes. I really do get a work out and work up a sweat -- this 'old lady' works hard! Plus I did some Spark Videos, a little basketball, and some extra walking.)

I thought/hoped all of this activity would have handled those extra calories...

- Also, last night I had an 'encounter' with a bag of cheddar-flavored popcorn. No, I didn't finish the bag (but I did make a good dent) so I'm probably retaining a gallon of water. (I'm trying not to panic! ;)

I was a bit stressed last night -- long story, we won't go there. (Let's just say someone's ex makes me CRAY-CRAY and eating a whole lot of cheddar-flavored popcorn seemed like a good idea at the time.)

Anyway, last week is over. Moving on to this week...

My goals: these 3 pounds WILL be gone by next weigh in!

Also, I reset my Spark Streak Goals since I haven't been tracking them for a loooong time. Starting fresh today!

More soon!
~Heather

P.S. I didn't delete my whole history -- just reset some of the SparkStreaks.

I'm at 9 weeks (and counting!) for Exercise for at least 120 minutes per week! :-)

Well, life happens, doesn't it?! And the way we've dealt with it in the past is the reason we are who we are, here, today. So, how do we 'reset' our stress buttons? That is the question, isn't it?!

One of my daily 'medium range goals' is this: If faced with a mistake, failure or tough situation, think of two lessons to learn from the experience.

You had an encounter with cheddar-flavored popcorn. Mine was thin sliced bologna at the deli.

Okay, time to learn our lesson and move on.

Hang in there, hope it comes off soon! I have noticed that I tend to hang on to pounds when I work out intensely.

emoticon I was thinking of starting fresh today too, but I'm not prepared to delete how well I've done in the exercise department LOL So... the history stays but I am re-focusing and plan on staying true to myself (until the next bump in the road emoticon )

Those 3 lbs will be gone by next weigh in... you can do it!!! Good job on the fitness end of it all as well!
