January 7: Day 125 of the 10+ Minute Fitness Challenge

Saturday, January 07, 2012

Today's Fitness
I did 98 minutes of fitness today.

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight's were doing a lot of fitness while watching my hometown Cincinnati Bengals lose to the Houston Texans (congrats to the Texans!). Then, after the game I went outside and ran sprints with my boys. I highly recommend this for all parents – really tires them out and makes the day go smoother with better moods when they burn off that energy!

Title: I exercised every day this week!!!!

Message: I just realized something! I exercised every day this week! That''s a first! I hadn''t been doing almost any exercising so this is HUGE!!! I took a 12 mile hike on Sunday, did 1 hour+ on the treadmill on MWF, worked with a trainer plus did some treadmill time on Thursday, and tomorrow is another hike - 8 miles. Way to go me!!! And I''m going to keep it up. Moving the treadmill from the basement to the family room and in front of the TV has been a good move. Oh, and I''ve been logging my calories. And getting a good night''s sleep. I think I''m finally on my way to losing this weight that''s been dragging me down. Hooray!!! We can do this!!!

Chris you will laugh when you read this; I have a personal trainer--she's 8 years old! lol. She's in my congregation and from a very dysfunctional family so I took her under my wing and said "can you help me with my exercising?" At the time I was taking personal training at the gym so I called her MY pt! She loves it! One thing she can't handle is sugar; it makes her hyper crazy! We were at a convention today and at noon break she and I had a cookie. Within a few minutes she was starting to bounce! So I said "Let's go for a walk". I am using a walker.I grabbed her; put her in front of me in the walker and off we went at a pretty brisk pace--definite cardio! Got her to her seat and continued on at a good pace to my seat (at the other end of the auditorium natch! ) All told I think we did about 20 mins of that plus another couple 10 mins spurts. And It's a two day convention so this will be repeated! WooHoo! Laurie

Thanks Chris, I did get my 15 today. I have been bad during the holidays, but I'm back to fixing some bad behaviors. I need to be healthy, I have a new grandchild coming next month. My first grandchild was part of the reason I originally lost weight. I had trouble just carrying a 10 lb baby upstairs.

PS I hang out on another website for my hobby (Splitcoaststampers) and we have a thread running right now on the merits of SP and at least 2 new SP members this week!

I have friends who try to excuse it away by saying they don't have time to exercise. I consistently tell them to just do 5 or 10 minutes here or there while they're on hold on the phone, waiting in line, watching TV, etc. Everyone can manage that! I don't accept excuses, at least for myself, and fit in exercise here and there throughout the day with a larger portion of 30 - 60 minutes in the late afternoon outside before it gets dark.

My highlight is taking the time to do this consistently every day for myself.

Title: Half-way to Goal

Message: I promised myself I would officially "woo-hoo" when I got here and I almost forgot. I have lost 35.5 pounds since I started on Spark People August 7, 2011 when I had 70 pounds to lose. So, I am a half pound into the next half! The "skinny" clothes I put away after "the last big diet" are starting to fit - in fact, when they fit "last time" I weighed a fair deal less than I do now ... The difference is EXERCISE! I broke the barrier to daily exercise on SP with the Ten-Minute-A-Day philosophy and have been doing it daily since - up to 35 minutes 2-3 times a week! Maybe some of the current weight is MUSCLE: I am in a smaller, firmer package! YAY! And THANKS Spark People! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Me too! Almost 1/2 way there. Although I've taken a lot longer!
That's OK. I'm enjoying the journey and learning so much along the way.

Solid! Hurray for you SparkGuy...personally, I fit in 30 minutes of active exercise with my 5yr old today (at the very least). I will have to note on my fitness page, well as take time to document last month's fitness!

You are quite the inspiration! emoticon
