Just as I was finishing this, Rascal, my cat, pulled his water dish off the elevated step he's got. SO how many fitness mins can I count bending at the waist (I'm in a chair) and scrubbing? Great ab workout though! LOL Silly cat!

Wow, 102 days of 10 Minutes of Exercise! I joined it when you did, and I have done the minimum and plenty more nearly every day since!
Thanks for this, it reminded me, that even if I only walked thd dog a short way, I could always fit in 10m minutes.
And I have discovered this year, it's true as I've heard it said, a body in motion, stays in motion.
I don't dread fitting in my exerfcise, I look forward to it!

I wanted to post an update about Sunny, our injured member from Texas – received this SparkMail from her daughter a couple of days ago – great example of the amazing support in our community!

From: RC2CATTLE
Date: 12/12/2011 - 5:18 AM
Subject: Sunny (RC2CATTLE)
Message: First, let me start by saying Momma is doing well and making steady progress in her recovery. I will send along a few details in a minute, but first I have to say something to all of you from me and my family – and from EMMITT!

Wow! When I told Momma I would read her the emails people might send I had no idea the impact it would have on me and the rest of our family.

We are all really close and have great support not only from our extended family but from Momma and Daddy’s church family as well. But we have been absolutely OVERWHELMED by the outpouring of love and sincere compassion and concern by the people who use the Spark website. We are amazed so many of you have taken the time to write to her with well wishes and prayers. More than 400 Spark members and counting have sent notes to her private email address and I haven’t even begun to count those who have written notes on her Spark people page.

It is amazing and it has touched our hearts that so many of you want her to know how much you really care. What is so remarkable about this entire thing is that you are so sincerely concerned about someone you know only through this website.

We cannot begin to tell you how grateful we are to all of you and how humbling it is to have such tangible evidence of the amazing Power of God’s love for His people. We are really sad because there are so many of you who have sent such wonderful messages to her, it will be impossible for us to respond to each of you individually. That’s really awful because we all wish we could tell each of you individually how much your kind words, thoughts and prayers mean not only to her, but to all of us as well.

Thank you, so much.

Now, on to Momma. First of all, for those of you who were worried about her dog, you will be happy to know that Emmitt The Wonder Dog has fully recovered and spends most of his day keeping watch at the foot of her bed. He really likes that he has graduated to a part-time house dog and is loving the extra attention he is getting these days. We laughed when Momma said if everyone doesn’t stop giving him treats he is going to be so fat by the time she is better HE will need to get his own Spark page!!

A physical therapist comes to the house every day to help Momma and beginning next week will be here only three days a week. Her mobility is certainly improved and she is recovering some dexterity in her hands. There is still lots of bruising, but even the deep bruising is beginning to lighten a bit. She is working really hard and says she is less sore every day. In her usual upbeat, positive way, she also works on keeping all of us laughing and focused on trying to always see the humor in all that has happened. I can tell she is doing all she can to help Daddy think he shouldn’t be worried about her. Almost losing her rocked him to the core and it has been touching to see how despite how hurt she is, her focus, as usual, is on doing all she can for him. They have been an amazing example of love for my brother and me all our lives and we consider ourselves two of the luckiest people on the planet to have these two as our parents.

We will go in for a doctor’s visit later this week so they can check her breaks, do some tests and get an overall good look at her progress. Getting to the truck and getting in and out of it will be a real challenge but she says she is up to the task.

The days are very busy for all of us as you can expect, but I will try and send another update next week. I am going to post this in the few places I know of and ask that if you see it needs to be posted somewhere else I don’t know about that you pass it along. So many have asked for an update, I want to make sure no one is missed. For those who want her email address again, it is gradyssunshine@yahoo.com.

Thank you again for reaching out to Momma and all of us as well. You just cannot know what it has meant to all of us.

I am uploading a couple of pictures of Emmitt to Momma's page so you can see him.

Amy

I hope you had a great day! Did you get at least 10 minutes of fitness? What's your highlight?

This year, I'm off insulin this year, did a 5k with my walker, and exceeded the goal weight I set for myself. Why? EXERCISE. I worked out more this year than I have in a long time. I trained by walking smaller and setting higher personal goals for over a year. I used recumbent (seated) machines to build cardio and core, like the NuStep Cross trainer and the Octane Elliptical. I used my arm bike when I felt too ill to do a harder workout.

Start small and dream big!

Today's Fitness
I did 54 minutes of fitness today.

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight was feeling stronger than I have in a long time – love that feeling that starts to kick in around 3 months of being really consistent!

Member Highlight

I love this member's description of the SP community in her blog:

In the past - I'd have gladly had a fat and carb fest with the Alfredo pasta and garlic bread - and I must admit I was totally uninspired by the idea of a boring little dry salad for dinner. :(

Instead, tonight I thought about my personal goals and I thought about each of You...

You are my inspiration: those who have succeeded (and started where I am now), those who are just starting to figure out if Spark has something here that could help them, and those of you like me who are still finding our way down this newest path we are choosing for the rest of our lives and are grateful to have found a supportive community like Spark with people who can laugh, cry, but most of all problem solve with us. You may not even realize that you inspired me when I read one of your blogs where you were voicing a challenge I too face(d), or I read your words of inspiration to someone else and I was moved by your level of commitment / compassion, or perhaps I've tried one of your recipes - even if I modified it first...

Had to run inside on the treadmill b/c it was raining. Hate running inside. Do so much better outside. Longer, without no stopping. But hey, I did it!

Not working out for two days now, but am well now and my sick nephew is also well, so my final week of 28 day bootcamp challenge starts today.

My highlight was the fact that I made it to the gym today - I had been backsliding for the past 3 -4 weeks and working overtime at work - not enough emphasis on health, fitness and nutrition. Feeling stressed - only income in family and stress full time of the year...but I MADE IT TO THE GYM AND WILL TRY AND GET UP EARLY AND GO BEFORE WORK TOMORROW.... emoticon

Today's Fitness
I did 17 minutes of fitness today.

Today's Highlights
Today's highlight was fighting off a bug. Felt it coming on and did a bunch of good things to fight it off and feeling good this evening – woohoo. Hope everyone is staying healthy out there!

Member Highlight

Today's member highlight is a fun comment from a SP member getting healthier and then getting pregnant – another SP member baby on the way!
**
SHAMROCK1949 said 'I turned a friend of mine on to this diet and her irritable bowel syndrome and acid reflux went away in about two weeks. Then she was also able to get pregnant. It is a very valid diet.'
**

I hope you had a great day! Did you get at least 10 minutes of fitness? What's your highlight?

SparkCheers!

Chris, I came back to Sparks because I was having trouble controlling my new maintenance. Also I wanted to see what fitness I could achieve. I set up a new goal for myself by my b-day (April) that I will be able to be RID of the chair. I only use it in the house; and my walker everywhere else. Yesterday, (the 12th) I adapted an exercise in Silver Sneakers. Teaching me how to balance on two feet without hanging on AND moving my arms. This I will practice. I take the class back to back MWF for a total of 90 mins a day. AND I can do 10 mins on the NuStep before class. I WILL get there. Thanks to your encouragement. WOOOHOOO!

Today I worked out for 39 minutes. I did it on the Wii Fit and had a lot of fun with it. My son who's 4 also joined me for some of it. It was fun racing and trying to keep up with eachother.

Just signed up for SP last night before I went to bed. My daughter told me about it. I've got a lot reading in the site before I really fully understand it, but I've gotten through lunch (skipped breakfast...no time) and made out my dinner menu. Now I must DO something...that's right my first goal is to do stretches every day. This 10+ min per day of exercise. I'm sure I can do 10 minutes. So here I go.

I just read the intro to your book "The Spark'. Very inspiring! I am joining this streak starting today. Today is my Day 1 of 10 minutes a day :) I got 50 minutes today at the gym. I have been exercising pretty regularly for the past several weeks but want to make it a streak.

I walked to the supermarket (around 2 miles) this morning instead of taking the car. That´s 40 minutes. This evening I hope to take it slow with a rumba class. Am Just starting to get into weights again after a year hiatus. Hope to do something later on. emoticon
My husband says "We are not sportsmen!" My response "Perhaps not but I want to be healthy so I need to become a sportswoman."

My husband and I have pledged to do a 60 day SparkStreak of 10 minutes of fitness p/day for 60 days starting today! I'm so excited! I can't wait. I've been on SP for awhile now, but have only been doing it half heartedly, so I think this will be the extra push I need to give it my all this time! I've also experienced a lot of life changes recently: moving across country, moving again, finding a job only to have it not work out, and looking for employment again, all while graduating from grad school, so it's been a transition. I'm hoping that by adding some consistency to my life, everything else will eventually work out! After all, in order to do your best, you have to take care of yourself first! emoticon

More than 2000 rounds with the hoop that is not yet one week old. Was tired and close to death when arriving home. Ate dinner, did strength this morning, dressed down and went to bed, and found the computer to tap in food. Thought about this guy that might be here and ask if any did their 10 mins. Decided to postphone the food tracking and just to go into the livingroom and do those 10 mins to be able to say "....´course I did" if he was in here asking.
Dropped the hoop at around 95 rounds....... thought "that was damn close to a 100" - "just once more". Made it in the third try and passed 100, thought "no reason to stop the hoop by myself" ............ wondered when it passed 200 if it ever would stop............ accumulated up to a 1000 with only a few drops.

Thought "That was anyway something".
Thought "wonder if I can do it again?". Decided to aim for 300 ........ anyway - I think you get the picture. more than 2000 swings later it struck me that somebody must have sneaked in and fast forwarded the watches in the house ..... 46 minutes. Fortunately no food in the oven, THIS TIME - I learn . emoticon

LOL! Wow, that's one heck of a diet, sounds like you could bottle it and sell it door-to-door:) I ran 2 miles, biked 2 miles and lifted weights for 15 mins, for a total of 60 mins! Yay!

Fantastic day!! Good news on the pregnancy too (not yours:)!!

I am in the middle of getting us into the next stage of our lives. We will both be in retirement by Mon. and we are heading south. I didn't know there was sooooo much to deal with and the time involved. Lots of calling, internet set ups, health insurance, COBRA, organizing important papers for the family to be aware of, etc, etc. I am not going to worry about any of that tomorrow as it is my DH's office retirement party and there will be surprises for him. Family invited. Should be fun!!

Exercise, running the stairs for laundry and getting to the car a few times. A good 10 mins. Finger exercises probably 120 mins. of continuous work outs. Jaw exercises about 30 mins. Staving off the headaches, timeless.

Oh yes, forgot to eat after breakfast. Enjoy to day tomorrow!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
