40 Day Personal Challenge Day 10 (March 30)

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Yesterday was day 10 of my personal challenge! WOOHOO!!!

I had an awesome workout yesterday..which actually happened many times throughout the day. I went to the gym where I burned 1,030 calories on the treadmill, elliptical, and the cross trainer type thing, and a little bit of cycling as well.

One annoying thing is that I am living with my parents right now and I am really broke (graduated college in December and I don't have an income yet)...so I am limited to what food they purchase. It's like they sit there and bitch because I'm fat and then stock the cabinets with Oreos and other unhealthy food. Luckily, I'm not even tempted to eat Oreos or bad food anymore (working out does that for me...I know how long it takes to burn off one freaking Oreo at the gym!! haha).

Today was official weigh-in day!! I've lost 13.4 pounds since the beginning of my journey THREE weeks from today :). Making pretty good progress!! YAY!! My goal is to be down to 174 pounds by April 29 (I am going on a trip then). I probably still won't be working then, so I am going to devote a lot of my time to working out and exercise tapes. I want to be around 155 when I go back to work and start looking for jobs.

At home, I did Leslie Sansone's 3 mile walk...and boy...was that more difficult than I thought it would be. She uses a strechie band and it burns..not like the 30DS, but still! I did 30DS yesterday as well...Jillian kicks my ass every single time!! I'm going to continue to do it every day. Sometimes I have to do modified versions of even the jump rope exercise because it hurts my calves so much! boo! haha..but I'm sure I'll get better over the next 9 days. Everyone's results are so encouraging!!! :) In addition to cardio, I'll really be able to tone up by the time my trip comes along.

Whoo hoo on losing over 13 lbs! That's a lot. You're doing fantastic at the gym, too, and with the exercise videos! Keep up the great work!

And best of luck withstanding temptation! It's really hard to eat well when you don't control what's available, just how much you eat. But you can do this! You've already come a long way in an insanely short period of time.

Girl you are doing so fantastic! What a motivator you are. I'm loving the Shred as well, and loving the asskicking! Hahaha. I also have to modify the jump rope thing sometimes--it feels like I'm getting shin splints, which I used to get bad when I did track. Keep going, you're doing awesome! Congrats on the weight loss! Try to forget the comments that can bring you down, and focus on the support from everyone here. I know you can do it :)

Great job! When I started 30DS, I could barely get through jump ropes. By the end of Level 1, I was keeping right up! It gets better! I'm halfway Level 2 and I have to modify Double Jump Ropes, but hopefully I won't have to soon.

40 Day Personal Challenge Day 9 (March 29)

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

This is my 20th active day on Spark People and I have really been sticking with it!!!

I know I usually write these in the morning, so this is kind of late...trying to separate what happened today from yesterday...

Had a great workout...burned a little over 900 calories (according to the machines, which I guess guestimate a little bit on the high side). As I have previously said, I am aiming to burn 800 calories a day. Right now my work schedule is really flexible because I am working for my dad and I am trying to take advantage of that. I am going to be working for the rest of my life...this is the only time I have to really devote to taking off some of the 70 pounds I put on during college. So much, I can't believe I did that to myself!

For the record, in college I had a terrible overeating problem..even before that..so it is no surprise. Seriously, I would say I ate on average 4,000-6,000+ calories. I didn't care. I went to McDonald's and ordered 2 double cheeseburgers (add mayo-yuck!) regularly. I ate out probably 10 times a week! So terrible for me. I wish I would have actually participated in some of the things Spark People offers! I think I wouldn't have gained so much weight. It has to be extremely unhealthy to gain that much weight in such a short period of time--that's like 20 pounds a year! YUCK!

Luckily, I've already started to reverse some of that damage and have lost 12 pounds :). I'm probably eating in between 1,200-1,600 calories a day (depending on the day). Unfortunately, I went in and tested my metabolism and I only burn 1400 calories/day, which is very low for my age. Boo! But that isn't going to stop me!

My current BMI is 32.8 and I am looking forward to leaving the "obese" category. I will be there at 169 lbs..which is 15.8 lbs away from where I am now...and eventually 141 lbs so I can be within "normal" weight.

Wish me luck!! :)

Whoo hoo for sticking to it! And you have a greatk attitude!

The good news is that you can eventually make your metabolism pick back up by eating right (don't ever short change your calories--you shouldn't have a deficit of more than 500 calories) and by working out--that teaches your body that food is reliable and will be reliably used, and so it will convert more of it to glycogen (for muscle use) and not to fat. Drinking enough water and getting enough sleep also help.

40 Day Personal Challenge Day 8 (March 28)

Monday, March 29, 2010

Good news..I finally did get out to that gym and I was able to burn around 600 calories. YAY for me! Yesterday was my "high calorie" day and I did stay within my range again.

I am aiming to burn at least 800 calories a day. I want to do at least half in cardio at the gym (on the elliptical, treadmill, or bike). Then I come home and do 30DS and usually a Leslie Sansone walking video. I have like 10 great workout DVDs now so I'm gonna start mixing it up a bit.

Does anyone have a workout DVD they can recommend?

I would like to pick up a Tae Bo video or two. Walking with Leslie Sansone is one of my favorite ways to cool down after doing 30DS. I also like to sample different workouts on Exercise TV on Demand.

There are many great workout DVD's --- Jillian Michaels, Leslie Sansone...etc. Lots of choices but you can find a variety to sample via the Internet or Exercise TV! Great planning which you shared on your blog!!

I think it depends on what you like and how intense an exercise you want.

I don't have a lot of exercise DVDs. I have 2 of the dancing with the stars ones--Cardio Dance and Latin Cardio Dance. I also have Bollywood Burn with Hemalayaa, and I really like all three. I love dancing, so I find that aspect fun, and they are made up of fairly short work outs, so I can do as little or as much as I want. They also help build up muscles I lost in my legs--the Bollywood one (at least as far as I've gotten--I haven't done the more advanced routines yet) really uses the butt and thigh muscles heavily, and the latin dance moves use a lot of hip movements that are really good for me. I find them pretty intense, but I'm not in as good shape as some people, especially when it comes to cardio, so I don't know how other people would find them. But you can do them even more intensely than I am able to, too.

I haven't tried it yet, but I watched the Sparks kickboxing routine on Utube and it seemed like it would be both intense and fun--and only 10 minutes, so it would be easy to fit in. Maybe it just appeals because I like the idea of martial arts without, you know, actually competing against someone else *grin* But it did look both fun and she gives you tips on how to make it more or less intense.

I have heard good things about the other JM dvds and about Tae Bo, though I have never tried them.

40 Day Personal Challenge Day 7 (March 27)

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Well, I have officially been completing my personal challenge for a week now. I am glad that I did it because I was having a hard time writing in my blog so frequently and this makes it a lot easier.

I'm redoing yesterday's goals because I didn't do them :(..but today I will..I PROMISE MYSELF. It's been hard...my friend from college just moved to town and anything I do pretty much has to be with him since he's staying with me right now. It's really caused me to slack on my working out. Starting Monday we'll have power at our apartment though, so hopefully he'll be able to hang out over there while I get my working out done, etc.

I think something that is going to help me is telling myself I am going to work out right after I write in this. This journal gives me encouragement and excites me about my plan.

Yesterday I ate within my calorie range, which is exciting because I think I am finally getting over my emotional eating...something I have struggled with my whole life. Of course it can't change completely in the 18 days I have been keeping up with what I am eating, but I think that I'm getting a good grasp on it. I REALLY wish I would have figured this out before..but oh well, better late than never! :)

Daily goals:
~Create an exercise schedule for next week :)

Weekly goals:
~STICK to the exercise schedule :)
